My simple question to you guys and girls is this. In ME2 you have a human, Miranda who is a possible LI but yet some opt for the "aliens" or non-humans, Samara, Tali, Aria etc. But why? Why get it on with an alien when you got Miranda around? Just curious on some reasons IMO i think it's weird, creepy and disturbing but hey thats just me. So you people that have romanced the non-humans, why did you do it? Hell, i might do it if i find a good reason.

Well, one simple reason I don't romance Miranda is that I am a straight chick so the "she's hawt" thing is kinda lost on me.

As for aliens, I pick them for a number of reasons.  One is because this is pretty well the only game I know of that lets you do that and as games are for me about doing stuff I can't do in RL to a large degree, why not?  Couple that with the fact that I find Garrus and Tali's personalities really fun and interesting.  I'd also be lying if I said there are not some aspects of the turian form I think are cool.  Some things do translate.  The broad shoulders+narrow waist combination is pretty prevalent in art of what the ideal male form should look like and so on.  They are also predatory, tall, and decidedly masculine.  And the voice.  The voice cannot be emphasized enough on Garrus.

From what I have seen and read, there are lots of physical features like this that translate over to guys with Tali as well.

Not meaning to come off creepy, but merely to point out that there is more to attraction than looks.  And that even with looks some things actually can translate.

I agree with all this.

Answering the OP: I just feel like Miranda and Jacob (not Jack) have the more "fake" romances. No offense to your personal preferences, but the alien ones, to me, are simply more engaging.

Miranda's is simply a stereotypical "f*ck on the floor hardcore" relationship. She's simply hot for you, and I don't see anything else in Miranda.

Jacob... Well I mean seriously? Seriously? The whole damn thing revolves around the prizeeeee and nothing else hahaha.

Again, these are my opinions, please don't start a flame war over them.

Perhaps because I'm less of a Furry than other people, I don't go for the alien romances as much.

I do not find squid-heads, lizardmen, jellyfish, chicken legs, dinosaur-men, or bird/cat men especially sexually exciting or tempting.

*sigh*

Yes thats right everyone who ever romanced an alien is a furry, what part of "this is fantasy" don't you get?

And besides, it's more about personality than anything else, the voice, all these things combined make for an enjoyable game.  The aliens are anthropomorphised anyway and I'm pretty sure if I or a lot of people who played this game met an alien in real life they would be scared, terrrified even, but human nature would take over, and even though they may not necessarily want to romance them, I sure as hell they would like to know more about them.

Miranda's romance felt more like a physical attraction.

Which is why my reaction when she said the L-word was this:

*spits out coffee*
"WHAT?!"

Miranda was oddly put together really - at least in all the ways that weren't obvious.  I think her outfit actively conflicted with her character, and I don't think the romance plot really made any kind of coherent sense.

She's the Bond Girl. The Physically Attractive Ice Queen that only ManShep has a shot of defrosting.

When it comes to the ME2 romances though, I will say I like her the most, even if it is by default. All the romances, Garrus and Thane's included, felt rushed and didn't get the development they deserved. By contrast, I thought Samara got fleshed out a lot better.

Why do 'alienmancers' get so catty when you call them a furry fan?
A furry is 'a fictional anthropomorphic animal character with a human personality and characteristics'.
That's what these aliens are and you/your Shepard had sex with one so what's the issue?

What ever happened to playing videogames to just have fun and escape reality for a little bit?

Furry seems to be interpreted as having nothing but bad connotations, which is not how I learned to view the term when being introduced to the furry community many years ago. To take insult to the term is merely to take insult to a skewed perception of what it means. But that's how terms become offensive over time, which is a discussion for another forum. As is discussion about how you view the state of the forums: such discussions serve only to feed the negative atmosphere while steering threads off-topic.

Do you really need to ask?

It's fine if someone actually has a particular fetish that makes them interested in a particular story line.  But then there are those who are just playing a video game.  And you know, I'm not actually a space soldier or an elf either.  I don't even dress up as one for conventions.  Weird, I know!

You have to dress up to be a furry fan?

I'll admit I don't know how most people define the term "furry" but I have always used it to describe someone who has an attraction to a fictional anthropomorphic animal type character or characters.
So by that definition people who are attracted to someone like Garrus, Thane or Tali are furry fans and there is nothing inherently wrong with that.
I don't know why people take such offense to the term.

Besides, the aliens of ME are not "animals". I find that comparison offensive, personally.

If you don't how a word is usually defined than it is a bad idea to use that word. Unless you want to look like a silly goose.

I remember how ticked off I get in ME1 when I went to the Citadel with Ashley and she remarked, "I can't tell the aliens from the animals", or something like that.  Really, Ash?  Really?? <_<

He has an animal like appearance.
Look to the Elder Scrolls series, the khajiit (cat people) can be just as intelligent as a human yet they have the appearance of a humanoid-animal, thus I'd dub somone who is attracted to one a furry.

Would you consider a twi'lek to be a furry? Is an elf a furry? Let's just not throw the word "furry" around here.

I really don't think you can compare alien races to animals at all. Even ones that have fur.

You could say a turian looks sort of draconic or has some feature similar to a raptor or birds but you wouldn't say they are bird-people (as the khajits are cat-people, but even that is debatable since they only look like cat-people and I don't think they actually act much like cats at all) because you're not taking into account their entire anatomy, culture, or mannerisms.
