Im looking for a solid ranged choice. The obvious solution is to create the PC as a ranger/archer. But im not really sure i want to do that. Im looking at Assassin but Zevran seems to be perfectly fine for that job.

So im looking at possibly converting one of the warriors or Zevran to a dex/archer type, but the problem that springs to mind is all the talents they already have pre-assigned and are already quite committed to something else. Will this seriously hamper their effectiveness as ranged type.

The group im after is

PC / Dex based dagger / poison assassin > Do they need stealth btw? Prima guide says no but im not convinced.
Shale (golem tank)
Morrigan (CC/Heal/Hexing)
#4 Ranged archer type

Alternatively i can just equip bows into the hands of PC and #4, invest in Dex and maybe - if i can - invest a little into archer talents.

Any suggestions?

Lelliana is the best archer of the NPCs but I guess of the 3 you mentioned Zevran would be best since you need high dexterity and Oghren and Sten already come heavy on strength.

Yeah - i used Leliana last play-through so im hoping to avoid having to use her. But it does't seem like there's a lot of choice.

You may not need a ranged. As long as you can get one of the melees to rush to the mages/ranged, you'll notice a massive increase in your party's damage output compared to having an archer.
