I'm currently going through this tutorial http://social.biowar...rounds_tutorial and have come to the part where it talks about modifying the .2DA file for the backgrounds. I've done several searches on my drives and cannot come up with any such extension for the backgrounds.
My goal is to restrict the background to include just the city elf, and figured this method would be how I would achieve that. There is a part of me wondering if its just saying that I should be creating these .xls files from scratch and then compile them into a .2DA to export with my module.
For clarification, I'm not extending the single player game. This is for a stand alone module with my own story.
Thanks for any help.
Question about restricting Background choice

The file you need is
(Install Folder) > Dragon Age > tools > Source > 2DA > rules > background.xls
where (Install Folder) is Program Files by default.
For a standalone campaign, you certainly want to make a new file. Copying the official one as a starting point ensures that the heading rows are correct.
Have a look at the 2DA pages on the wiki for further general advice.

Installing through Steam has proven to cause some issues finding these files heh.

I don't have the Steam version, but based steam's default paths, in your case it is likely something along the lines of:JnBaker wrote...

Ignore the double slashes, it's just a single one, that's a forum issue...

Thanks for such a quick response on that. Can't wait to get home and get back on this. Just another bit that I'm not totally 100% on. Will this background.xls go in MY_MODULE\\\\assets\\\\2da\\\\rules or ..\\\\module\\\\override\\\\2da\\\\rules

Neither, as it happens. See wiki, especially the link about compiling 2DA files. You'll be pleased to know that it covers Steam explicitly.
Thanks. I should have posted an edit that mentions that I read a bit more of the tutorial and he goes over the process of how to setup the 2DA. So far, after some bug fixes I've now got the custom Backgrounds working except that the call for the default_warrior.utc brings in a class with no equipment. Handy to know if I want to start you out as a complete beggar
My follow up question will be (after I tinker with this some), how easy will this be to pair down to say just one race and two classes? My story that I'm working on only requires that you be an elf of either a warrior or rogue. Seems like it should be easy enough and that I just will need to comment out a few lines here and there.
