I really hope that any lessons learned by Heavy Rain are what not to do in a story-driven experience. The game is full of false choices and manipulative nonsense. It's also incredibly boring. No thank you.

While I don't really agree with all of what the article says it's not saying Mass Effect 3 will model itself after Heavy Rain, it's saying it should. Heavy Rain does do things that are important to Mass Effect better than Mass Effect 2. For example digital acting or sense of consequence of choices. Heavy Rain is well ahead of the curve on those points because that's pretty much all it does. Similarly Fahrenheit was ahead of the curve and some of what it did has bled into the mainstream. When Jade Empire came out the reason Bioware gave for not voicing the protagonist was you read the line of dialogue, they say the line of dialogue. Later that year Fahrenheit used a dialogue wheel with short cues as to what the line was. ME's dialogue system, while it has some big differences with Fahrenheit is closer to that than it is to any of Bioware's previous games.
You should, it's a great game. Though for me Uncharted 2 is much more of a must as PS3 exclusives go.

Heavy Rain is why I bought a PS3--well that and Demon's Souls as well, which I never actually got around to buying [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie]

Metal Gear Solid 4 is also a must-have PS3 game in my opinion. Killzone 3 looks like it will be glorious, but it's a couple weeks off yet if I recall.
As for the OP, anything that makes ME feel more cinematic and retains a level of player choice is all right by me. Heavy Rain's actual gameplay isn't the best way to do that, but as Devos said conveying the same feel of interactivity and impact as Heavy Rain would be huge.
