I have a controller that I notice on the maps will make the cursor drift
on it's own and I have to push the right stick in the opposite
direction for it to stop.
Now on the mini-games for opening
things, it's a struggle and many instant fails. I read that it supposed
to give a few seconds to hit the buttons but some don't even give one
second as I try to count "one-one-thousand" but it fails as soon as I
say the first one is barely out. So one decryption, I just decided to
move the stick to see if it caused a fail and it did.
Is there
anything other than a new controller to be done for this? Controller is
not even a month old as my 360 was an early X-mas gift that I opened 3
weeks plus a few days ago.

Either the controller, or the interface is faulty. Replace the controller. If that doesnt work, replace the box.

Tried both. Since the Xbox 360 was just 3 weeks old, got a replacement system from the retailer and same thing. Even without the drift on map issue happening. So any other suggestions?
I didn't lose my game saves because that late into the shopping season, no 250 gb 360s were on the shelves around here so was given a 4 gb 360 and the 250 gb add on drive which is the drive I had all my saves on.
Oh and I got the game used at EBGames because remember just got the 360 so had to get it used. (I thought but found a new copy at Best Buy even though the site said they were sold out today. I looked at it when I was getting my replacements and wondered if that could be an issue too)

also I only had this problem of buttons not showing as working or instant fail in the mini-game of ME1. Not in ME2... not in any other game I have as well like DA:O, SvR2011, Assassins Creed, Star Wars Force Unleashed 1 and 2, NBA 2k11, Soul Cal IV, Tomb Raider Underworld and Legend, Fable II, Fight Night Round 4, Lost Planet Extreme Conditions, Deadrising, Devil May Cry 4, etc. So odd it's only the ME1 mini-game having issues at all.

Wow. Okay. Use the Force, Luke... that's what's needed. I just tried to do something. I hit A before it even showed what to hit for a few times. And finally it picked A for the first hit, then gave me a success but because I didn't pick Y before it appeared, FAIL.
I thought the only game requiring Force powers from Bioware was KotOR until TOR is released. Oh well.

Update: I purchased a new copy from Best Buy today and the mini game actually works now. So wasn't controller or the Xbox itself but the disk. New from BB was the Platinum Hits and the used from EBGames was not even though my case said it was. No bonus disk but used didn't think much of it but the disk doesn't even say PH like the new disk from Best Buy does.
