Did Flemith have a makeover? I find this humorous.

So what happened to darkspawn having sharp teeth capable of tearing flesh according to your books?

You're selling teeth too short. Human teeth are quite capable of tearing flesh. And from the looks of things, these darkspawn will have additional canines.

sure they are, sharp teeth are more sutied for the job though (way more suited) and it's confusing that this was in a previous game but suddenly darkspawn decided to omnivore/herbivore like and use their teeth to chew on leaves and berries instead.

I wonder if Flemeth is a Force Mage like Fenris.

Fenris is no mage.

It was a joke. The German PCGames said that Fenris was a Mage and that there was a specialization called Force Mage but non of it was true.:P

Sure they eat.  Don't you remember surprising the troll during his meal at the top of the Tower of Ishal?

So it was a retcon then? That makes sense

It's a new art style and a re-imagining of many things in the world. If that equals retcon in your books, then yes, that's what it is.

A retcon is what happens when a newer concept replaces the old concept without any possible explanation (lore wise). So if there is no lore explanation to why darkspawn had their teeth changed, then yes it is a retcon.

Mr. Gaider I personally enjoy your books, but what purpose is it to the lore that you created if the game remains inconsistent to it?

Just my opinion but i think the game was made less dark to attract WoW fans and younger audiences in general....(We know ratings dont do anything unofficially)

I don't think changing the way something looks is a lore-shattering inconsistency. I'm not sure why you would.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Klingons looked significantly different between Star Treks and I don't consider either interpretation cancelling out the worth of the other.

ITT: People continue to care deeply about visual continuity.

And I still don't get it.

Yup, Klingon appearance was radically changed for StarTrek: The Motion Picture

It can almost always be explained away, anyway, except for the Klingons...

This.

Plus, she's a shapeshifter. Use some imagination lolz

She suspiciously reminds me of Alexstrasza from World of Warcraft. hmm. lolz

The "reminds me of" game always ends in folk tales.  Whoever you site, someone smarter will site an older character.

Maleficent.  She's a shapeshifter too, and turns into a dragon to boot.

Like I said back on page one, in the realms of the game its because Varric is narrating it, and he has quite the imagination so everything is going to be slightly over the top or different.

The art change happened after the books were written? Is that a difficult concept to wrap your head around?

Precisely, so why do they need flat herbivore teeth for then? Darkspawn sharp teeth is understandable because it is used as a weapon IE tearing flesh off inflicting pain/damage, flat teeth doesn't make sense.

But during a Blight, the flesh is armored. You try biting through armor and lets se how sharp your teeth are.;)

The truth? They whanted a more Medievil design looking like undead warriors and more like what they ones where (humans).
Myself I agree about the Origins version of the Darkspawn looking bether and that they now look to different. But checking the old art for Origins you se that Hurlocks was supose to be pale white and not green like they turned out to be in the game and the Genlock was more Brown. So in a way the Hurlock are looking more like they originaly where going to look.
There where things that did not make sence in origins also. Like Genlock Mage? Genlocks are made from Dwarves and Dwarves can't use magic.

I don't really have a problem with any of the redesigns; none of them we've seen so far fundamentally changes the lore beneath what's actually going on with Flemeth or the Qunari or whatever. If the Darkspawn were suddenly all six-legged or draconic, I would be frustrated. Simply changing the visuals like some colors and designs is fine by me.

-shrugs- Different views I guess. Personally I'm a lore-geek and get all confused with something such as 'teeth-revamp' happens even though in written lore (by you) states that darkspawn have different form of teeth (sharp). It is lore-shattering inconsistensy (due to the obvious fact is contradicts the written lore) and it makes me (and others I bet too) wonder if there are any more inconsistencies such as this.

Though as Chaia has posted it might be in the view of Varric, is this the way the general team wants to put it through? or is this is new art direction for a good portion of the game (and many to come)?

changing the ways things look so suddenly takes the player out of the world. Without any real explanation story-wise of why the changes were made. Its also being inconsistent, disregarding the choices that were made before.

Sure, almost thirty years later.  Long after anyone besides a small subset of Trekkies gave a damn.

So, maybe Bioware will explain this in 30 years? A special flat-teath group of Darkspawn was created for the attack on Lothering.;)

I guess the Darkspawn are trying to look more civilized by having plastic surgery and filing down their monsterish teeth.
