And burn in Purgatory.

Couldn't be worse than the burn that accompanied Zevran. That boy is unclean.

And coffee, don't forget the coffee.

I like mine black, the same way I like my souls.

Yes, yes, I forgot coffee...

I also absolutely love the Destiny trailer because of how oddly pleasing Mulgrew's voice is.

You know, it only just struck me, but back when I was playing Origins I was expecting there to be a third "witch" at some point. The whole hecate thing, mother, maiden and crone (I have this odd idea that "Morrigan" is a myth about that, but it's possible I just made that up).

Her new incarnation seems to fit the mother role rather than the previous crone, so maybe she's both. Or all three.

Wouldn't Morrigan fit the role of Maiden and Mother? Though yes, her new shape does seem a lot less crone like.

Good point, morrigan becomes a mother. Maybe that means something, maybe I'm trying to apply external narratives where they're unwarranted. Wouldn't be the first time.

Nah, I don't think so. Or perhaps I am as well, I've always seen the figure of Morrigan (In myth not the game) tied to the furies. So, I too kind of grasped at similar straws. Part of me even wonders if Morrigan and Flemeth are different beings, but that might be going a bit too far.

Funny thread. "OMG, that shapeshifter looks different now than she did before! WTF?!"

I mean, if you're against visual retcons or new art styles or whatever, why use the one example that is completely 100% justified?

It's not like they didn't give enough ammunition for that. Should we start with the Qunari, that were described as

warriors in glittering steel armor

by the wiki have been suddenly turned into a celtic horde charging in tight leather pants and tribal markings?

Or how they gave the flesh-eating Darkspawn squared, flat, herbivore teeth?

So what happened to darkspawn having sharp teeth capable of tearing flesh according to your books?

The art change happened after the books were written? Is that a difficult concept to wrap your head around?

So it was a retcon then? That makes sense

Darkspawn don't eat, so why does it matter?

Precisely, so why do they need flat herbivore teeth for then? Darkspawn sharp teeth is understandable because it is used as a weapon IE tearing flesh off inflicting pain/damage, flat teeth doesn't make sense.

They eat people. Morrigan clearly says she sees them feasting on the dead in OStagar. Herbivoreish teeth can crush bone better than razors

Flemeth's just late to the party of 'bad ladies' with horned hairstyles.

Lol when I first came across Flemeth in the Korcari Wilds I was sitting there for a few minutes thinking "where do I know you from....OH Jesus, its Captain Janeway!!!!!!" .......and did it again about an hour later in the Dalish Camp "where do I know you...oh Jesus, its Tuvok!" more members of the Voyager crew should be in Dragon Age 2!

and on a side note, I think Mulgrew's voice fits the trailer brilliantly Posted Image

Of course they eat bones! Clearly, all the the soft tissue that comes with a human body is inedible.
Even then, species who gain nourishment from the bone structure don't grind the bone. They fracture it to suck the marrow. And puncturing teeth do that better than flat teeth.

Kate Mulgrew has a classic voice for Voice Acting...I would listen to her read the Phone Book (ok...I'm probably overstating that a bit)

To me she's the Female James Earl Jones...a voice that's just a pleasure to listen to.

Forget the shape; darkspawn in DA2 have *white* teeth. More than anyone else ever had in Origins.

Everyone in DA 2 has white teeth. They put fluoride in the water as part of a commie plot to reduce our male essence.

And, really, so long as you can tell that a darkspawn is a darkspawn and a qunari is a qunari I don't see the big deal... especially if it makes things look better on the whole, which I think they do. Flemeth in particular looks awesome.

That's the crux of the matter.

Sad thing is, I wouldn't have recognized the new qunari as qunari.  Or Isabela as Isabela (remember all the "who's the pirate woman??!?!?" threads when the first trailer was released?  Don't recall anyone stepping up and saying "it's Isabela!".)  And when I first saw the screenshot showcasing them, I (along with many others) mistoook the new darkspawn as some form of undead.

That's where all this retconning breaks things for me.  I can't recognize these elements any more, and that breaks the story.  Considering the story is the main draw of Bioware games for me, that's not a particularly good thing.

In the end, though, I suspect that with all of the other changes you guys are making to the gameplay, and the spells, and the inventory, and the time-of-day, and the voiced protagonist, I'm just going to come to view Origins as something of an oddity for the franchise.  A false start, a mistake, something that makes it "not the way Dragon Age is SUPPOSED to be".

Which in itself is rather depressing, since I really enjoyed Origins for what it was.

*shrugs*

The retconning really doesn't do the storytelling aspect any favours, though.  I'd personally think you guys would want to keep that to an absolute minimum; there are going to be enough accidental inconsistencies cropping up as time goes by without deliberately opening the door and inviting them in for a party.   Still... it's been said numerous times that Bioware Doesn't Do World Building.  Don't know why I was hoping this franchise would be any different.

Is no deal-breaker by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a little disappointing, the degree of the "revisioning".  Is something I'll get used to, I know.  Just wish I didn't have to.

Flemeth does look good, though.

You don't need a clairvoyant octopus to tell there's going to be some creepy mods for Flemeth in DA2 for the pc.

Though I gotta admit her new make over is nice. Maybe she'll turn a few players heads... to the dark side.

How can it break the story when you haven't played it yet? As has been said on other threads other game franchises have graphic makeovers, comics do it all the time.
