Ultimate control over the planet’s rotation. Cool concept or cold shower?

Sun goes up, sun goes down. Sun goes up, sun goes down. Following BioWare‘s Open House media event, it is now known that Dragon Age II features a day/night toggle, accessible from Kirkwall’s city map. You can just insta-switch between day and night. So, does this feature sound useful or, instead, pour cold water all over your immersive, role-playing experience?

To be clear, the only day night "toggle" is on the world map, where you choose which version of the zone you wish to travel to. You're not standing around in the middle of a zone, hitting a button and *bam* now it's night.

Day and night versions of each area are completely separate. The static level art is obviously pretty similar with mostly just a lighting change, but everything interactive within those areas is different unless we chose to duplicate it. Generally speaking all merchants, NPCs and quests are only in one version or the other. Not all areas have day/night versions: it's mostly major areas within Kirkwall.

We do, as a matter of fact, support waiting for day/night to transition if you're really committed to the delay. After completing some quests in the daytime, look at your watch (out of game) and make a note of the time. Wait for 12 hours, then resume playing the game -- it is now appropriate to switch the game to Night. Repeat as required.

However, due to packaging constraints, we are unable to include a pocket watch with the game, so you'll have to supply your own.

:innocent:

edit: clbuttic.
