I know I'm not the best informed member of this forum but I'm pretty sure that not all of those are confirmed companions. Would anyone care to enlighten me?
This.
Honestly, I am getting really tired of all these romance threads. You DO NOT know who the companions are yet let alone whether they are romances. Romances are one small optional feature for those who choose to persue them. Yet they get an inordinant amount of time and discussion space. When we have new people coming here to learn whether DA2 is a game they would be interested in and they see so many romance threads "Is X character a romance, are there s/s romances, I hope I can X romance, what happened to my DAo romance, etc" it actually starts to harm the sales of the game (for those who are looking for an action game, RPG or story based game and not a romance sim).
Yes, there is nothing against the rules about romance threads. I won't stop them or anything (within the usual rules, etc). Still.... it makes me tired.
Sorry to hear that, Chris. Its still a huge interest to the fan base though.

I can see where Chris is coming from, people gush and make large fan threads for characters we know next to nothing about, some we have not seen deliver even a single line of dialogue, but they have huge fan threads and romance threads. I am actually a fan of bioware romance plots but they get out of hand on the boards, particuarly when the game hasnt even been released yet. What if the character with a 200 page fan/romance thread turns out to be a total jerk who constantly belittles Hawke and could even betray her half way through the game. Its just really excessive sometimes.
I truly do hope Fenris turns out just like this. Seriously, he's an effeminante gray haired guy. He has to be evil, it's in the rule book somewhere.

Why do you think Fenris is effeminate? If anything, he sounds like he's going to be all serious, brood-ey, and possible bloodthirsty. Reminds me a little bit of Valen from Hordes of the Underdark. And if that's true, that'll be awesome, because I loved Valen.

I'm talking appearance wise not personality, I really have no idea what the character will act like. Not that I really have a problem with this, I like pretty boys and handsome girls (You go Aveline). It's just in my mind, he is more beautiful then handsome.

This I can see. It's funny; I don't care for my men effeminate, but I like it when they're pretty. So I can see what you're saying.

No but seriously you guys do keep data on that sort of stuff right? I mean in ME2 we knew how many people played which class etc. How many people engage in romances? Which one is most popular? etc. etc. Prove your claim, what's good for the goose....

How will you prove that? Just because people play a romance it doesn't mean it is important to them. They could just do it because it is there.

I can believe this, I've always thought the forum fan was a different kind of monster than the average fan. Sort of like when dealing with character sex, polls usually show a closer split between male and female characters than the ME2 data showed. Wasn't it like 82% played male shepard's or am I misremembering?

They gave out at least some of the ME2 stuff. About 80% of people played the soldier class and over half didn't finish the game IIRC.
Also mostly tweaking him to see the numbers because they are interesting even if they don't prove anything. Still I wish there was a statistic for getting ninjamanced by one of the romanceables

That seems like an odd way of thinking. *snip* I have a lot of respect for BioWare, and for you, Mr Priestly, but this just felt mean.
I didn't mean it to be mean. I view romances as a feature. And with any feature, if it can be done well and included in the game, the better. The more features a game has, the better as long as they work and work well.
However, no other feature takes up so much mindshare on our forums as romances in our games. Yet, it is a relatively small percentage of players who actually play them (yes I do have stats to back up this claim, but no, I am not sharing them). Dragon Age II is a game filled with many awesome features and romances are just one (or, I accept one feature per romance).
I am also not remotely in charge of whether romances should or should not be included in our games (that is done by Mark, Mike, David, etc). If I am asked for fan feedback on romances, I pass along what you all say about them (pro and con) without my own added opinion which is already known by the Dev team. Maybe I shouldn't have said anythign this time, but it seems each time a name comes up or a character is revealed, it starts a romance thread or discussion. And we eventually end up with "Aww... I wanted to romance X" or "I read someplace that I would be able to romance Y, why was this cut" or similar.
Still, as I said, I 'm not stopping it. I just hope that people are smart enough to temper their expectations until they see actual proof. (And yes I am sure YOU are smart enough person reading this, but not everyone is as history has proven each time we release a game.)
I didnt mean that people only play for the romance either. I dont, this is the first game (DAO) where I've had the choice. It does add fun to it. But the games would be nothing without the storylines, romance or not. And Bioware's storylines are excellent.

I weep for the future. Was chris here for Dragon's Age Origins? DId he check the Romance threads then? Can ANYONE point me to a "blue"'s equally antagonistic remark from the Pre Dragons Age Origin threads?? Anyone at all?
Yuni
PS (no offense intended, Please don't ban me again!!!!!!) Seriously though, We the fan base will happily accept whatever you think is best for us. I know I speak for everyone when I say how grateful we are to the amount of attention and game changing we know you doing for us, you are "in the trenches" fighting the good fight.. We feel about you much the same as you do about us, and that is just "the way it is". (Hug).

I think it's safe to say that anyone who spends several hours per day for the last several months on a forum for a game that won't be out for several more months, and spends all that time obsessing over the "romantic possibilities" of an NPC they know nothing about... is pretty obviously a crazy weido, especially since those regulars tend to also think they're the majority or the normal player. How out of touch can some "fans" (fanatics) be? Read the Bioware forums and find out!

Only 18% played female Shepard? With 6 classes to choose from, 63% played Soldier, the class most similar to every other shooter out there? It's bizarre.
I guess this confirms what Chris said, but I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it.
