Hak Pack brain tumor...

Now after getting the game through Steam and playing with the toolset, I am wanting to toss in Pains Monster Pack to see some custom content.
http://nwvault.ign.c...ed.Detail&id=37
However, I have been trying to work with the haks in the NWN2 toolset and for the life of me, I cannot get any custom creatures to show up. I have read and done several tutorials but none seem to fix the issue of custom content not showing in the toolset.
I am blown away by how frustrating this day has been. I am going to walk away for the night and get a clear head. Anyone with advice on this matter, please post. I guess I could be labeled a noob and am in need of "hand holding" at least until I successfully get custom content into a module. Once I get by that hurdle, I can begin to contribute to the community.
Thanks for your time.

1. You attached the hak to the module in the toolset
2. You imported the blueprints for the monsters.

Pain's Monster Pack offers two main things: 1) custom appearances/models (the main thing) and 2) blueprints (UTP files) to go with those appearances.
If you just want the appearances, then after the hak is properly attached to your module, you would create a new creature blueprint or plop an existing creature down in an area, then go to Properties->Appearance and scroll through the list. The new appearances in the particular hakpak you attached should be in that list.
To properly attach a hak to your module, just in case this is the problem: Open up your module (or module directory, which really is preferable), then go to Module Properties->HakPaks. Add a hakpak by navigating to its location in your folders. When you are finished with this, save your module, close the toolset* and re-open it. When you open your module the hak should be attached.
* It may be enough just to close that particular module, but to be sure I'd just close the Toolset entirely.

I tried what you said MasterChanger but no dice. I am wondering if I dont have the Haks in the module right.
I go into module properties and move down to Hak and add them in there, then I close that window. Haks are in *****documents\\neverwinter nights 2\\haks
Is there some kind of merge thingy I need to be running to get it more into the module? Anyway, afterword I save and close the toolset. Still nada. In the old NWN module properties there was a menu telling you about Hak pack conflicts when merging the haks to the module. That way you get a notification that your hak is installed. Is there no hak install menu in this NWN2 toolset? I really think there is a small step I am missing here. Perhaps a hak pack order thats wrong?
I am grateful for any more tips. And if you guys need more info on my side I can try my best to type up my step by step path I have been taking to failure.

Anyway, as far as the toolset is involved, I ran into the same thing when I first started a module. I later discovered the creatures were actually there when I went to the properties and adjusted the appearance.
The nwn2 toolset is really awesome in the fact that you have a lot of freedom to detail things to how you like. The draw back is that the freedom makes it feel so vast that you get frustrated very easily at times.

There is no dialog box for hak conflicts, unfortunately.
Once you have the hak(s) associated with your module, save the mod, exit the toolset, then load it back up. Are you still not able to see the new creatures? Then it might be a 2da problem.
Anyways, welcome to the community! I hope your time here isn't all frustrating problems like this.

Be back tomorrow and maybe some new help will show up. *salutes*

That out of the way, I'm pretty sure a step-by-step would help here. I know there's info around to make sure you're not doing this wrong, but I don't know where it is now. In the meantime, make sure your hak screen looks like this example when you're attaching them:

If you need more help, a great place to get it is the NWN2 IRC channel (info is here).

Welcome to the NWN2 modding community. The toolset can be frustrating, but with help from the community it will eventually work for you. It gets easier with time. As others have suggested, perhaps trying to takle a smaller .HAK project at first would be helpful to get you used to doing .haks in NWN2.
Best of luck and I look forward to seeing what you produce!
Cheers,
Matt

You should be able to get that from off the wiki, if I am not mistaken.
You could also get on IRC *(see directions in General Discussions Forums Sticky: NWN2 Chat) and ask for help directly live and online with others who use that more than I do.

NWN2Packer will allow you to see what files are in a hakpack, as well as build and unpack hakpacks.
The NWN2 wiki has a good page on what the various files in NWN2 are for: 2da's, blueprint UT[x]s. MDBs, etc.

You are right, it was the 2DA file missing. I remember taking the 2DA appearance files from the old NWN and copy and pasting in the new creatures to make a large Appearance.2DA. You guys helped me find the missing piece of the puzzle. I looked and found the file I needed and the creatures are now there. With this info I should be able to add anything else needed in the future. Should I make something for the community, I will make sure credit is noted to the creators of the haks and their creations. The content I have seen is fantastic!
I will toss out a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that helped me out. I figured that would be better then a "man hug"

Have you discovered the Custom Content Forums yet? You should see them if you plan to create stuff.

9 times out of 10 if a model is not showing up its a messed up 2DA. As a modder, I ALWAYS take 2DAs out of hak packs and make one master 2DA hak pack. That way I know where they all are and can bug check much faster.

Mokah! Your sig is awesome! The icons are a excellent idea!
Well done.
I cannot tell you the trouble it was to get it all to work....all the different colors in the links (note the pink BTW) and getting the picture in there. In truth, the icons were not my idea, but I've seen them around and made one that represents the games I have. I think Hellfire has a larger one.
