The only country I know enough about to make a judgment on is Ferelden. Frankly, I don't like it. It's a pretty backwards place, with no sign of improvement. And while I love dogs, I hate the smell of wet dog.

I would like a chance to go to Orlais in a future game. We're told little about them, and most of it intended to have us dislike then, it seems. I'd like a chance to see the good.

Me too, chevaliers are made out to be marauding kitten rapists by the Fereldans, I wouldn't mind an alternative interpretation.  Considering the game is based on the medieval era it would only make sense to eventually give a glimpse of the place modeled after the country that gave the world the notion of chivalry.

So far, I like Rivain, Nevarra and the Anderfels.

I would like to see the next Bioware game NOT take place in Ferelden (Kirkwall/Free Marches are technically near Ferelden and probably similar) and somewhere totally different. Even Orlais would be fine, since the player never got to visit Orlais. Even Antiva would be fine.

Well from what little I know of the different countries in Thedas, I was most curious of Orlais, as it had a bit more "refined and sophisticated" taste than "rough and practical" Ferelden. Hell they have an Empress and that sounds way mightier than King or Queen.

I'd have to say Ferelden, just because we haven't had a chance to visit anywhere else yet. Through all my Origins playthroughs I've developed a bit of national pride. :)

Sort of random: The Qunari empire has been compared to that of medieval Islam, but it seems to me to be very similar to ancient China. Anyone else agree?

Heh, sorry. Kind of irrelevant, I know.

Tevinter and the Anderfels sound very interesting, but I have to say Ferelden. Origins sold me on it.

I much prefer the down-to-earth, rough-and-tumble nature of Ferelden to more 'sophisticated' cultures like Orlais or Antiva. It's much more honest. Plus, they revere dogs (and real dogs, not little ankle-biters). I can't not like a place that loves their dogs so much.

Tevinter.. Mages rule, and they know how to get **** done..

And besides Tevinters leader is epically powerful. Having a leader who can take care of himself is a good thing.

OP: one point, Ferelden's not based on medieval England, it's based on medieval Scotland

I don't have a favorite country exactly, but I'm very keen to see more of the Tevinter Imperium, and the Free Marches, actually, so DA2 should be quite a treat for me.

No fair ruining all my steriotypes, now!!!

Besides, I've heard Canadians say that.  Along with people from Minnesota.  And I actually find it pretty cute.

i have two.

The Tevinter Imperium for the byzantine influence and the magocracy.

Rivain sounds great and i like the seers mentioned in the codex- hedge witches who contact spirits and willingly allow themselves to be possessed.

As long as it's cute.... We need that to offset our tough guy image.

Orlais, of course. The entire nation intrigues me.  I'd LOVE to see the wonder that is Val Royeaux (and it's Grand Cathedral. I'm sure that city is full to the brim with exciting landmarks). Visiting other places in Orlais would be cool too, Val Chevin, Jader, etc.

I'd also love to play "the game" within Orlais and become interwoven in the many political affairs.

From what I know of the world, Orlias would probably be my favorite country. I'd like to see the architecture in the Tevinter Imperium.

Some of you do. Some Americana do it as well.

Considering we've only actually been in & seen feralden, can't imagine having an opinion on which is "best" in thedas unless you really like feralden, which i can't say i care for

I know this thread keeps on having random English people popping up and saying this but: I like Ireland and have no problem with Ireland or the Irish, lol in fact the other day my friends and I where talking about how cute bartenders Irish accent was.

But besides that, Ferelden doesn't really have any simalities to England apart from the accents (and thats only Southern and irritating upper class English accents, I don't really recall any Northern English accents) and the weather (well apart from the absents of rain)

As for the thread, I am pretty interested in seeing what the Free Marches and Kirkwall are like, and also Rivain as I think thats one of the few countries in Thedas that doesn't have a lot of Andrastians/the Chantry there, and has a lot of Qunaris/people who converted to the Qun there so it would be pretty interesting to see what the culture there is like (well thats what the DA wiki says anyhow)

I like "Nevarra" the most, mostly because of their fame for nearly exterminating the dragons, also their wars with "Orlais" and the fact that they were part of the "Free Marches" before becoming an independent nation.

Well I hope more information about places other then Tevinter and Orlais is given in Dragon Age Two to help make them more interesting. Victor Watcher made a thread and poll related to this thread topic in my signature.
