Wouldn't be suprised if qunari warriors had mates assigned to them for the purposes of relief a la the ss joy division.

Satisfy little head so big head can think again with no fuss or having to make small talk.

It's possible--this might be what older women past the age of childbearing do.

"Hi, did you order a cougar?"

Listen I am an advocate for destroying gender boundries.  So, I sort of get where you're coming from.  The thing is it doesn't at all make sense for what we know of the Quanari.  I'm not talking about biological functions or what not,  I am talking about the culture of the group.  They are a warrior race with a clearly defined system of rules and regulations.

Yeah, but even Sten admitted the the Qunari still have fun every once in a while... If you pick the right dialogue options in the post-coronation part in DA:O, he describes a celebration that takes place when a Qunari is declared a hero (they can only be declared after death, or else their pride would become "too great"). He says the revelry can get quite mad, people abandoning their meditations, and that there may even be executions to restore order....

So why not sex for the sake of pleasure or romance?

This quote was in refrence to ploppy suggesting that sten could poop a baby out of his male reproductive organ.  Please do not take it of of context.

*re-reads previous posts* Wow that just blew my mind...Posted Image

I apologize - I did not intend to take it out of context so much as respond to the part of the quote that I have bolded...Posted Image

Now I see why some people in Thedas choose to become a qunari.

I would feel very bad for Hawke,  didn't Sten say Qunari sex would destroy a human female?  I can't imagine what it would to to a man...

I can  see your point but Still the Qunari   just don't seem like the typ that would condone   any form of  lavish affection on any person were talking about a people that don't even have cookies let alone pie even when the Qunari do let loose and sit down to drink  some brew there are excutions if they let loose alittle to much  i just don't see it happing

The reason they don't have cookies is as follows.

Mary Kirby wrote...

Their lack of sweets comes from an overabundance of pre-planning. Most cultures came up with cookies and cakes as a means of using up leftover bread dough.  Qunari are too efficient to have leftovers.  Which makes a lack of cookies their tragic flaw.

But sex without permission would end with re-education. And they only celebrate (with alcohol et al) at very few occasions, that are sanctioned by the state. But I couldn't find that quote so you'd have to take my word on it.

As was said earlier in this thread, he was feeding Morrigan a line.  The Kirby even confirmed this.  IF he was in the mood to tolereate it, you could probably snuggle with Sten very comfortably.  Of course, that's a big IF.

It's in the epilogue, he's talking about how the Qunari have (sort of) an analogue to this whole "hero" thing: periodically a Qunari will be declared "qunoron vehl", one who serves as an example to others, although this is always after they are dead, otherwise they would become too proud.  It is an occasion for great celebration: alchoholic beverages are imbibed, meditations are interrupted, public chanting, it is madness.  It can take the Ben-hassrath days to restore order.  There may even be executions.

That's a paraphrase, though, I didn't go look up the exact wording.

Personally I've always felt like love, homosexuality, and family would be some of the main reasons Qunari abandon the Qun. The Qunari other than Sten were all portrayed as ruthless mercenaries in DAO. But I'd venture to say that many of them just wanted to keep their son/daughter or marry the pretty priest they talk to everyday. I'm really hoping some of that can be seen in DAII.

Not all, but most. If you take Sten with you on the circle of magi quest, and you rescue him from his "nightmare" in the fade, the Qunari buddies with him are quite personable in my opinion - well before they are possessed by demons and attack you anyway...

My point is this: yes, the Qun may be strict, but the Qunari people aren't "soul-less". I am sure that love exists amongst their people - it's just not in the same ways we would normally perceive or define it...

Sorry when I said Qunari other than Sten I meant ones clearly not following the Qun.  All the random mercs and bodyguards you come across.  You're right the ones that came with him seemed quite personable indeed.

The whole system raises questions about the Qunari biologically and in an evolutionary sense.

Not really--it is a huge mistake to believe that a different cultural approach to sex and love means there's a BIOLOGICAL difference.  Hell, in Western culture, in REAL LIFE, the equation of love and sex is a modern invention that's only really been around the past 2-300 years or so.  Prior to that the idea of romantic love was seen as tragic and/or comical/adolescent--or possibly even completely divorced from sexual desire.  The fallout from this (and the various counter-movements) is still present in the culture today.

It would be a mistake to assume that if Qunari were human. They appear to be a different species, therefore their biology is unknown. The question is, IS there a biological difference, and if so, what is it? You are assuming that they're functionally identical to humans, but just bigger and with horns. Which might be the case, but we don't know.

IMO the entire Fade scene with Sten is some of the best characterization in the game (aside from Bann Teagan's appearances, maybe.)  It took about 30 seconds for it to shift from "apparently Qunari are all strict, harsh, oppressive, and even brutal--with maybe some glimmers of humanity deep down" to "these guys are just like my little brothers!  Wish I could have met them . . ." to "ohhhh, Sten you poor thing, you must be heartbroken.  I'd give you a hug, but you'd smack me and we'd both just wind up pissed off.  I'll just think *hug* in your direction then and maybe you'll get the gist."

I hope we get to see more different Qunari in DAII.  It'd be great to have this mental image of Qunari as all uptight and disciplined and then when you get to talk to a Qunari, the first thing he says is "Nice ass" or similar (especially if you're a guy).

You know this whole invasion is TOTALLY THE WARDEN'S FAULT.  I mean, can you imagine Sten giving his report:

Sten:  "Arishok, there was a Blight in the south of Ferelden but it is now ended and no longer a threat."
Arishok:  "Really?  You and your men ended the Blight?"
Sten:  "No, my men were killed.  By darkspawn.  Only I survived."
Arishok:  "So you ended the Blight BY YOURSELF?!"
Sten:  "No, no, I met this Grey Warden and she did most of the work.  I just helped."
Arishok: "'She'?"
Sten, looking sour:  "Well, she said she was a woman and I gave up on arguing."
Arishok:  "Is this some kind of . . . Grey Warden thing?"
Sten:  "That is what I thought, but apparently no.  There were several other women fighting.  One of them kept trying to get me into bed.  The other one was shriveled and old and made me a sweater.  And the little redheaded one kept giggling and calling me a 'softie' when she wasn't shooting down darkspawn or stabbing them in what I am sure are some VERY sensitive places.  And the last one was made out of rock."
Arishok:
Sten:  "I know."
Arishok:  "That's it, we're invading again TOMORROW."

Well, none of the random mercs and bodyguards have speaking lines, but you might assume that if they managed to get away without getting killed, they must be some kind of badass.

IMO Armaas in Awakening is pretty personable, too.

Eh, in fantasy being another sentient race generally seems to mean that you just look a little funny, but I take your point.  I'm not saying there are definitely no biological differences, just that nothing we've seen so far can't be easily explained as a cultural one.

So I understand the entire plot of DA2 stems from Sten going back to Seheron and reporting to the arishok.

If only the Warden didn't help him find Asala...

Nice job breaking it, bastard.
