There is this little thing called genetic mutation, it can result in the inclusion or exclusion of certain features. Which actually does explain why some Qunari can have horns when others do not, but what do I know its just "SCIENCE!"

I am not suggesting that quanari are evolving into another species with or without horns. What I’m saying is that it is common for genetic variance to occur within a single species, with the Quanari horny/hornless is one such trait.

First off, interesting topic!



Secondly, I think the Qun would be fine with same sex relations. Since their society is so stratified and duty driven I see a coupling between man and woman more about procreation than anything else, suitable genes, suitable social pairings. Add to this the very separated gender roles which would seem to indicate that at least some stratas of the culture would spend the majority of their time with their same gender. Therefore,it seems like that same sex bonds would be the norm, certainly not in the same way Americans see gay as an identity, but in a more ancient Greek or Russian way. Men and women make babies, intimate friendships are with those most like us, most connected to us, so it seems to me that same sex relations would be common. No society can kill intimacy and retain cohesive, and given the manner Qun society is structured with its well defined roles and strict devotion to role and duty the Qunari must then find it often in their own gender.

Sten called meditations being interrupted "madness" and that people had to be executed to "restore order", this combined with the fact that he sais all you need is your duty to find happiness, I've decided: no, same gender sex does not happen within the Qun. Talvashoth however, is a different case entirely.

I for myself think it could be possible... Well, some of you have mentioned the Greek, and there is an example of ancient Greek society very similar to the Qunari (in some aspects):

The Spartans
Spartan society has been described as a society organized for war from its core. They had no family organization as we know it, the boys lived in quarters most of their lives. It was a custom that several children, prior to their soldier training began should be asigned to an adult "mentor", who partly took the role as teacher and "father figure"  if you can imagine a father figure in that authoritarian social structure. 

Homosexual relations WERE NOT MANDATORY but very common in these cases, and of course outside of marriage.

So I totally see this could happen in Qunari society.
