I'm looking for a good rouge build to solo as a rouge(is this even possible?). I've tried myself but I keep getting decimated by the sheer number of enemies. I'd like to know if there is a good stealth class that has very good evasion. I'd like to do high DPS but it takes a back seat to evasion and stealth. I'm also wondering about how stealth works, I read somewhere that the enemy detects you after a single strike. Realistic but not good in terms of the survivability of the rouge. Any tips or ticks to make a lethal rouge? A solid build would be most welcome. I'm overwhelmed by the sheer number of 'feats' and other skills to choose from. Thanks in advance!

Wouldn't reccomend it for the OC or MotB. Way too many enemies immune to critical hits (and sneak attacks) there. Maybe possible, but terribly tedious and no fun at all, I imagine.

Otherwise it should be possible. You will want to get the Shadow Dancer Prestige class. They have the ability to Hide in Plain Sight which means they can re-stealth at will in the visible field of enemies and launch another flurry of sneak-attacks. Only problem is you can soonest get it at level 8, so I guess it could be very difficult till then.

Another possibility is to use Feint to do frontal bacstabs, but that's usually the harder way, as the enemies can resist Feints and you need really high scores of Bluff for it to be efficient.

Really? I've heard that rouges are excellent DPS characters. It's a shame that they are not effective in the OC or MotB as I've heard those campaigns are better. What other classes do you recommend?

Well I suppose you could try a Strenght-based, armor wearing Rogue instead. Something like this Mithdradates' build might be very nice:
http://nwn2db.com/bu...=1075&version=1

But anyway "soloing" is very tricky in the OC/MotB, as the game often forces you to travel with companions who are plot-related.

Honestly if you want to try soloing other modules are much better suited for this.
For example The Last of the Danaan is a very cool Ranger-module where you mostly play solo. Although it's story is light-hearted and opportunities for RP limited.
First time ever in a cRPG when I enjoyed using a bow.

It's ROGUE!!!

You can try a Ranger. Rangers can use stealth, and they can be STR-based.

Thanks Arkalezth. I was going to quip that you should never use rouge solo -- it should always be used with eyeliner and lipstick, otherwise it makes you look peaked.

Yeah, Rogues, are good Crit/Backstab damagers, but in the OC there are many critical and surprise immune creatures, rendering the traditional rogue a bit of a throwaway. And, as sneaking past some places is not allowed or possible, a simple rogue is not advised.

That said, I guess Arcane Trickster might get you through. Or even a Bard, which can take a lot of rogue skills and excel at stuff like that and still fight decently well.

Rangers are also a good choice. IMO one of the best choices if you're looking to solo and do rogueish things (just take the hide and move silent skills. Of course things like sleight of hand and pick pockets would be cross class skills (if allowed) and so you'd want to avoid those.

Rogue X/Cleric 1, get Turn Undead to clear out all those L1 skellies and zombies, and two domain feats?

Another very nice solo module is Moonshadows Chapter 1. Again quite light atmoshphere and again plays exceptionally well.

You could also solo the SoZ campaign if you feel like it.

Slight of hand is completely useless in the OC or MotB...probably in SoZ as well, but playing that solo is just not fun.  In truth, the official mods are not designed for solo play and the classes like Rogue are meant for support, not main characters.
Check out the Character Builder Site for finding a build that is high damage and can still be sneaky.  Personally, I would use a ranger, bard or monk.  I played all three and done quite well.

If I were playing a rogue solo I would go with a very high intelligence and maximize the Use Magic Device skill so that you can use all of the magic items in the game. They can help a lot.

I was joking about Turn Undead, but I did just whip this up... not really a pure Rogue any more, but could be fun, and a bit more versetile. Though, if I were playing a Rogue solo, I'd probably go high Intelligence too, but Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster, maybe even throw Eldritch Knight into the mix or whatever (though Shadowdancer 1 is probably more useful).

Thanks for all the helpful and informative answers. I'm going to try out some of the other modules that was made for soloing (thanks Haplose). I'll probably play the OC and MotB at some point so I'll probably roll a more solid class with party members. Heh, I guess this stealth obsession comes from too much assassin's creed and fallout.

If you do decide to play Last of the Danaan module, you might try this build of mine:
http://nwn2db.com/bu...26032&version=1

I've played this module with both a melee and an archery ranger (the only module I played twice!) and the archery one was much better and more fun. Particularly after getting Manyshot (a bit big hit to AB early on, but as those AA bonuses started amassing he rarely missed anymore).

SPOILER

It might seem like Shadowdancer's Hide in Plain Sight is a necessity. In fact it's not. If you explore places thoroughly you can get a great robe with HiPS and stealth bonuses early on. So the two feats burned on the SD are a bit of a waste. Sure there is a better defensive armor later on. But if you play it well, you should be nearly untouchable when you get it (if you find it).

Well if you love rogues as much as I do, you'd know that rogues can do anything.  Traps and scrolls will own any undead, ableit getting your hands on these things may be a bit hard.  For the OC you simply cannot solo so it wouldn't matter but otherwise it IS doable, I solo with rogues every chance I get because rogues rule.

That's debatable - but it certainly ought to be able to solo with a rogue, especially if you bump up Use Magic Device (UMD). I'm not saying it's going to be easy, though.

What's this? A thread about Rogues and only one mention of traps? Although availability varies widely depending on the mod, if traps are available to buy (or craftable - check for recipes on the NWN2 wiki), they can be devastating - set up a bunch in a corridor, stealth up, go backstab your opponent, which will weaken them some & run back down the corridor. Since you're fast, you should be able to stay ahead & lure them right over your traps & turn & maybe even stealth up again for another backstab (especially if you throw in a tangle or negative trap in there too). Keep potions of invisibility & a rod ghostly visage handy for quick getaways, and you're laughing!

Mix in 3 levels of magic user or sorceror (although you'll probably go for the former, as INT is your friend when you're a skill heavy rogue), and you get Invisibility, Ghostly visage & a load of other handy stat boosting & evasive spells (Grease works well on even the highest level creature if their reflex save is poor), AND you get a handy familiar scout too that can cast touch spells!

Admission of conflict of interest - since P&P D&D 20 years ago, rogue mages (or Wizard / Thieves as they used to be) have always been one of my favourite classes!

Dwarven Rogue Clerics can be lots of fun too - better combat through higher strength & constition, and handy healing spells. And they're strong enough to carry & use a spare decent suit of heavy armour around, for when they KNOW that their rogue skills aren't going to do them much good.

Oh, and for high damage backstabs - consider dual wielding / ambidex feats & lots of DEX - no matter whether you use daggers, short swords, or a long & a short weapon, you can do embarrassing amounts of damage to backstabbed opponents that will even make the party barbarian blush.

Well, there's no reason you couldn't actually focus in a ranged weapon and traps, and lure your foes into them like that. With a speed-boost-granting class or the Dash feat, you'd easily be able to keep your distance or make a getaway, and you could use Tangle traps and the like to hold people in place whilst you pepper them. Of course, ranged weapons are generally not that great in NWN2, but I'm sure it could be done (maybe even Arcane Archer?).
