I was just wondering if anyone actually liked the original Mass Effect better than Mass Effect 2 overall. Obviously once we break down the games some things are better in ME1 and some things are better in ME2. But I was wondering if anyone actually liked the overall experience better in ME1.
Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2

The majority prefer ME 2, but ME 1 still has it's champions.

I have often heard that people think ME1 is a better RPG, but ME2 is more fun to play. I like them both, myself. Each had really good aspects.

ME1 or ME2? - Both

ME1 is fun the first time and tedious at all other times and playthroughs.
I replayed through ME2 more times than I replayed through ME1.
They're both strong in their own ways, but I found ME2 as the more enjoyable GAME and ME1 as the more enjoyable STORY.
That's just my opinion though, no need to go spreading it around.

I can see this thread becoming an unholy flame war. Either way, I prefer ME2 as an overall package, purely because the actual shooting mechanics are so much tighter. Shame it had to come at the expense of the awesome RPG stuff in ME1 though.

I GREATLY prefer ME over ME 2. I'm not interested in a pure shooter with a story with so many faults (especially as a follow up to ME) that I shudder at what was going on inside BioWare.

I am maybe in the minority but I don't know if any game will ever approach ME1 storywise. ME1 is my best game of all time. ALL TIME.
The controls of ME1 are pretty bad. This game will get a remake someday hopefully with better controls it deserves it.
Something else I prefer the skin texture in ME1 over ME2 to me ME1 felt more life like.

ME1 had the best story and gameplay. (RPG wise). ME2 just had better combat. A low quality story compared to ME1. It seemed too hollywood like.

I prefer ME 1 in many ways (I even liked the inventory:huh:, although it could do with some improving).

Since I consider ME1 and 2 the same story, I say ME2 is better.

I like the shooting aspects of ME2 more, so I prefere ME2. But that doesn't change the fact that I love both games!

I would say I appreciate and enjoy them both equally.

It's a good series overall. People rabble on and on about immersion and yet they persist on comparing the games ad nauseum. It's a grand series with potentially one of the best stories I've seen in a game.

ME1 was more RPG-like, but ME2 has better story and more squadmates, which is alway good
So I say both.

I don't think there is anything I prefer about the original Mass Effect over Mass Effect 2. I liked Mass Effect 1 but it felt unpolished and the inventory system seemed redundant since it felt I was just upgrading more powerful versions of the same weapon and I didn't like weapon overheating.
I felt the character development in Mass Effect 2 was also much deeper and Mass Effect 2 had more memorable characters overall.
I think maybe there are a couple minor things I liked about Mass Effect 1 more. I think the music in Mass Effect 1 was strange in a cool way while Mass Effect 2's soundtrack was good in a hollywood type way.
Also, I liked the debriefing room in the Normandy SR1 more than the SR2.

I enjoyed ME more the first and maybe second time than ME2, till I learned some of it's conv tricks, but I would rather reply ME2.

I preferred the feeling of involvement, story, renegade/paragon system and pacing greatly in the first. However, the character animation, combat system and recruitable characters of the second game are clearly an improvement in almost every way. The music was outstanding in both.

the side quests on ME1 where so anoying! seriously! but the story of ME1 is far supperior than whats added in the expension. If i only played one game i wish it was ME1 but the gamelay, options, side quests and so on are just way more fun in ME2. overall ME2, but both great

This is actually a very good point, one that I keep forgetting to make. The music in ME2 is far more stereotypical "epic" classical fare, a la LotR or any other epic movie. All rousing violins and threatening horns. ME1 was far more individual though - it was all electronic sounds, which somehow seemed far more authentic to me. I much preferred the score in ME1. To be honest I've never really bought into the argument that BioWare sold out to EA when they made ME2 more shootery, but I think they actually really did when they made the music more generic. It's not bad at all, in fact it's tremendously good music. The electronic music just fit much better in the universe.
ME2 is still the better game though.

I did, although ME2 made some sensible improvements in some areas. Also ever since we had to start reloading in ME2, I can't play ME1 without spamming grenades in combat.MysticMage44 wrote...

ME1 was absolutely stunning when it came out. I got it as a gift and logged over 100 hours over the summer [after it came out]. However, graphically, character wise, and combat wise, ME2 trumps 1. However I do agree that the story in ME2 was a little cliche and disappointing at the end.
