mass effect > mass effect 2
-can land on uncharted planets/mako
-better story (me2 story was bad at the ending, using humans as liquid for genetic material- really bioware? like they don't have genetic recombination techniques in 2182, and the **** was that? a gian terminator, that was facepalm moment)
-better customization
-better RPG
-more involving romances (atleast with ashley), seems to have more dialoges between characters
-more weapons/armors
-grenades

ME2>ME

-better gameplay
-better dialogs
-better athmosphere (feeling) in the whole universe
-more fun
-amazing action moments and awesome cutscenes
-navigation of the ship

both fail at facial expressions, they looks to derpy. AND FFS introdunce Female krogans, salarians, turians etc..

and don't make mission levels so patheticly linear (land, shoot, big decision)

conclusion: I like them both in a different ways

Playing both a couple times over...I prefer the first one over the second.

Just to many whiskey tango foxtrot design elements. But then...I think its more of the current generation of game producers idea that the consumer base wants brainless easy mode in thier games.

I played both on the PC.Never experienced the 360 version of the first one...saw a few moments of the second(on a tube tv so...)

Anyone who says ME2 had a better story than ME1 is delusional. Seriously. The plot of ME1 was so superior to ME2 its scary.

However, the actual gameplay in ME2 was far superior than ME1. Everything in regards to the gameplay in ME2 was refined and perfected.

The actual writing was also a lot better than ME1. It's clear that the writers of ME2 learnt a lot from their experience writing ME1.

That being said, ME2 was a very watered down game compared to ME1. It was VERY clear that Bioware was aiming for a different target market with ME2. Obviously influenced by EA, the original ME fanbase was shoved aside in favor of the console/Modern Warfare crowd. EVERYONE will attest to this. This isn't spam. EVERYONE knows this to be true...

ME2 runs so much better on my old rust bucket, totally smooth in 1080p which I couldn't do with ME1 and it looks much better as well. All hail the optimizers. Combat is far greater in ME2 as well but that's where my enjoyment ends..

You get one set of armor to run around in (yawn), there's no inventory management (good and bad, it wasn't designed well in ME1) and missions just make me rage. For instance you find a derelict ship in space, so you obviously board it so you can explore and maybe find some upgrades .. No .. As soon as you have entered the ship you get a mission update "Escape the ship!" .. Can't I explore first for just a while at least?

Oh and way too many missions, computer hacks etc. reward you with credits. There's nothing more anticlimactic than landing on a planet expecting great adventures, only to save some boxes from a bunch of crazy mechs with a credit reward thrown in there good measure.

It's tough. ME2 is a better shooter, it has better characters, more content, better sidequests, and better environments. ME1 has the Mako (I liked it OK?), a better story, a bigger Citadel, longer and more meaningful missions, and richer RPG features. Oh, and no friggin' planet scanning. ME2 was more fun, but I preferred the feel of ME1. When I hear the "Vigil" song, all the wonderful Mass Effect memories flood into my head. When I hear the vastly inferior ME2 theme tune...barely a trickle.

So I guess there isn't a winner for me. Both games are awesome.

I disagree. It seems like Mass Effect left much more of an impression on you. Don't worry, it's okay to admit it. It's the same for many people. It's true for me as well.

ME1 Playthroughs=14(so far)

ME2 Playthroughs=11(so far)

ME1 to me has a superior story. It was the better "experience" in my opinion.

ME2 to me has superior gameplay. It was the better "game" in my opinion.

But, I still had more fun with ME1.

It had a good mix of RPG and Shooter. It just needed the ME2 gameplay and it would've been even more amazing.

A few touches here and there for its few flaws and it would've been perfect.

I hope to God(and mostly Bioware) that this is the approach they are taking on ME3, as I'm hoping to not be severely and sorely disappointed in the last act of the trilogy.

At this point, in my opinion at least, ME1>ME2.

ME2 did feel a bit "dumbed down", but just using those words doesn't do it justice.

To convey what I mean, I should say that it didn't feel like it had the depth of story and importance that ME1 had. It didn't have those familiar aspects of an RPG most folks associate RPG's with.

I think ME2 would've been praised even more had it actually had an inventory. Just cleaned up and modified from ME1's.

Modifying guns with specific ammo types and attachments would've also been a familiar RPG aspect that I believe would've been welcomed.

The story focus being more on the characters was an interesting change, but I believe that had the focus been at least a little bit geared more towards the Reaper threat, the story would've been better received.

Also, there were less skills to put points into, and the "1,2,3,4" system was rather odd. I feel that ME1's skill point system was highly superior and it should've been down to the 12 points, each point adding a new bonus. It may be gradual, but working for it is worth it, at least in my opinion.

ME1's levels weren't as linear as ME2's, not by a long shot. For example, Noveria had quite a few ways you could go from Port Hanshan's Dock to Peak 15, and multiple ways to get through Peak 15 to the end of the level(avoiding spoilers here). While in ME2, everything is pretty much following a predetermined path that walks you in a straight line with no room to backtrack, explore, and see the amazing universe for how wide and interesting it is.

ME1's UNC's may of been lacking in variety, but the atmosphere was so much better(in a way). While varied terrain would've been nice, the vistas and look out into outer space was marvelous. Instead, we got N7 missions in ME2, which were beautiful, but completely uninteresting. In ME1, we talked to people to get the UNC missions, whether it was some minor NPC or Admiral Hackett. In ME2, we have no one. We just have to find it ourselves and find our own reasons to care. Especially because the email system is just boring and in my opinion was just a way to get around implementing characters to meet and talk to.

Also, ME1 had very memorable places like the Presidium, and to see it dangling there in our faces but unable to be accessed felt like a shard of ice going through my heart. So many amazing characters and stories on the Presidium, and we couldn't see anything but the Human Ambassador's office.

It just feels like everything was simplified for the sake of new players or a wider audience. Like the lack of giving squadmates new armors, attachments for their guns, or having linear levels, etc etc.

If I had to develop ME3 and make it more like ME1 or ME2, I'd make it more like ME1.

But I won't discount ME2's strong points. Its combat was amazing and its characters were interesting. Still, ME1 had something that ME2 didn't have, and I hope ME3 goes back and brings it to our television screens and computer monitors again.

I hope that was what you were looking for. I tried to be reasonable and get my point across without coming off as a git, idiot, moron, or whatever word flies with you.

I would have to say ME (1) if I have to compare the overall experience of both games.

Both. I prefer ME2 a bit, but both are great games. Hopefully ME3 will find the right balance.'

Have the flamewars started yet in this thread?

Well, the rest is your opinion, which I respect, but keep in mind that ME2 took a lot more time for one to finish.

Oh, I was just stating how many times I've completed them. In no way was I saying that because one was better than the other I played it more.

It took me about 40 hours to beat each ME1 playthrough(once I figured out how to do everything).

ME2 takes me a good 65-70 hours to beat doing everything.

Not trying to prove a point, since it's just a matter of taste, I am just pointing this factor out. ;)

ME1 is fun the first time and tedious at all other times and playthroughs.

Sums up how I feel too.

ME1 has a better story, but you don't really appreciate the story in the same way on the 2nd, 3rd, 12th playthroughs .. and the non-story aspects of the game aren't great. Perma-firing guns, Immunity and crappy abilities kinda ruined the "game" for me.

By comparison, ME2 is a better game with a worse story. The only thing that prevents me from replaying it more often is the need to replay ME1 first in order to maintain a cohesive import and get the most out of ME3.

Actually, I take back the ring thing. I owe NOTHING. Buy your own for $155.

ANYWAY,

I've noticed Preston W has been posting in a few threads, which makes me think he's reading quite a few.

Hope he pops in here. Or SOMEONE else, anybody.

I still prefer playing ME thoroughly compared to ME2.In Me2 there were less main story centric missions compared to ME.

Glad to see it back.
