Anecdotal evidence is Anecdotal. Who cares? Apparently you do, though, you couldn't care less about his version of anecdotal evidence posted earlier in this thread.

My point was that anecdotal evidence can't be used to disprove the existence of something. You essentially said, "I've never seen such a neighborhood in Manhattan, so it doesn't exist." Of course, it's always tough to prove the nonexistence of something, but saying "I never saw it" is inconclusive and pretty unconvincing as an argument.

And Europe is probably the most culturally diversified continent: compare Greek culture to Norwegian or Russian to Portugese... Not much in common.

In fact, some of them would be pretty offended if you lumped them all together as we've seen in this thread.

You understand he used the same argument earlier in the thread, and i was using anecdotal evidence in the same way, right?

Duncan is half Riviani, and isn't a good representation of what they look like.  I could post a picture of Barack Obama, and I would not use him as a representation of what white people look like, for instance.

I'm not trying to argue that, ultimately, all Rivaini people must look like Duncan and Isabela.  Just that, so far, those two are the only indication of what your "typical Rivaini" look like.  Assuming that they are representative is reasonable, but not absolute.

Remember these countries don't EXIST in Thedas. So in a way there is no African/Black, nor European.

You are absolutely right, which Makes Upsetting Shorts argument totally baseless.

I can't decide if I should be amused or angry.

Why can't she be black? There is NOTHING in the game saying Rivaini don't have black features.

Because she doesn't look West African?  Or East African... or Central African.  She looks North African.  North Africans share some features with other Africans, and share other features with Southern Europeans.  That's a simplification, but I really have a hard time understanding what you're ultimately trying to get at.

Ninja Mage wrote...

The current in game picture of Isabela looks like a british person with really wierd skin. There's nothing ethnic or diverse about her

This is the same thinking that leads people to say "All (blank) people look alike."  That's why every time you post on this train of thought I have to restrain myself from erupting in anger and frustration.

Her ethnicity is Rivaini.  Rivaini look like Isabela and Duncan.  Her culture is Rivaini.  That is distinct from the rest of Thedas.

I never said all Europeans are alike. God Dammit. I said that I want DIVERSE people in the game. Ofcourse she doesn't look West African thats why I even brough up the point. She SHOULD. She is form a culture with dark skin, and most cultures with dark skin have different features and clothing. She is not diverse in this respect, and just looks like a random European with mixed features. That's not what I'm advocating for in this thread. You may be fine with it, but I want to see something MORE inclusive than that.

No, it isn't, but keep trying to throw poor argument out there, and try to catch more flies with it.

To this day, i will never understand how people could completely ignore the symbolism, and come to the conclusion that people said RE5 was racist because it was "only black people in a village in africa".  I blame our public schools.  I'll head down this tangent in PM's though.

How many pantsless people did you see in Ferelden?  How about ones who wore an extensive amount of jewelry and thigh-high boots?  Bandanas?

Saying, "I want to more diverse cultures in Dragon Age beyond the Rivaini" is not the same as "I want the Rivaini themselves to be more diverse."  The former is perfectly reasonable and I wouldn't argue with you.  The latter is rather, well... see the first part of this post.

I don't think Harid is getting mad at me.  He raised a solid point about how Duncan and Isabela aren't necessarily representative of what all ethnically Rivaini people look like.  And he's right.  I simply responded by saying the assumption is reasonable.

I really only see one person getting mad at me.

To be fair the majority of the. . .well. . internet don't take this seriously, so yeah.  There are people still mad at N'Gai Croal for the RE5 debacle.  And the mods haven't banned Fortlowe for 4chaning the thread either.
