The question is: when should i dual class, given i use all skill points on detect traps? I need good trap detection both in soa and ToB. Anyone knows?

I've played a similar party, If you want a thief->fighter I'd suggest a swashbuckler->fighter and dual at lvl 10 (to get the AC and damage bonuses of the swashbuckler kit), 10 levels of thief also allows 100 points in three thief skills.
Find traps and locks only need 100 points each, you could put the rest in either set traps or detect illusion. The only skills you would ever want more than 100 points in are stealth and pickpocketing.
And yes, there are several traps that can't be disarmed - I remember a painting in Neb's house and the floor traps in Gromnir's palace - regardless of your character's skill in traps.

Dualing from a theif to a fighter is an interesting choice, particularly from a swashy, which is practically a F/T already. People typically go the other way (F9 or F12 or F13 to thief). That way they get the F hitpoints, (and an extra proficiency at L12 and 1/2 APR at L13) and can still get to the thief HLAs (particularly UAI).

I agree, unless your character is going to have a simmy use any of these skills and then you may want to bump those skills higher in SOA/TOB. I personally never put any points in pickpocketing; if I want to steal I load up on potions of Master Theiving.

This I know is false as I just untrapped Neb's painting last night with a theif with 100% in detect/disarm.
[EDIT: We are talking about Neb's house in SOA, right?]

silenceall I assume you have the G3 Fixpack installed. Unmodded the trap at that picture is not removable except by triggering it.
Yes I have the Fixpack. I did not know that trap was previously not removable.

Well, OP said that he was looking for a class just capable of the basic thief skills (I don't use thief HLA's much either, although I know they are powerful)... A swash -> fighter has lower hp, but better combat abilities than either a single class swashbuckler or a single class fighter (except a kensai). The lowish hp compared to a fighter->thief dual is not a big deal in a party with another tank character, and hardiness will eventually make up for it.silenceall wrote...

Now I remember reading something about this; Neb's trap and also one in Deirex's tower I think were previously impossible to disarm. I didn't actually try it recently because it's one of those horrible 80 damage acid traps; didn't feel like chancing it.Yes I have the Fixpack. I did not know that trap was previously not removable.

Oh, don't misunderstand me, given what the OP is looking for, I think your suggestion and reasoning are sound. It just struck me as unusual at the time.
