I just bought ME1 via Steam running on my desktop with Win7x64 and 8GB RAM. Unfortunetally, I got unreproduceable CTDs throughout the game.
After reading this forum and trying some things to keep the game running, I finally found the right adjustments. At least I hope so, but the game is still running fine!
I started Steam with Admin-rights and also set the start option "-maxmem=2048" in the propertys for the game (all within Steam). I also tried to limit the RAM to 4GB, but it didn't work. With this information, I guess it is not the Admin-right, what made the difference - but Steam is still running with these rights, thats why I mentioned it.
Perhaps I can help somebody with these Informations, I didn't find them in the forum!

Win7 64bit, C2Q Q9650 (4x3,0GHz@stock), Asus HD5870 Matrix, 8GB (4x2) DDR2 GeIL EVO ONE 1066MHz, Asus P5Q-E, Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion, Creative HS-1200 Headset, Enermax Modu87+ 600W
