GamesMaster magazine has issued the first review of Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 and given it an awesome 93%. "Basically, if you've never played Mass Effect before, and you're lucky enough to own both a 360 and a PS3, then this is definitely the version to plump for," GamesMaster says.

You can read more by picking up a copy of GamesMaster magazine on sale today, or by checking out the news on CVG.com

Pfft, I'll take my ME PC meat and potatoes any day over a silly PS3 or 360. Mouse + keyboard trump console and controller every time. Just need to make sure your vid card, memory, and network card are up to date.

Still, props to BW for once more bridging the gap and making the ME franchise the best multi-platform game of all time. That said... DLC? We know mores coming and now that the PS3 folks are in can we start getting some hints pwetty pwease? :-)

Glad its still getting 90%+ reviews on a new platform a year after first release. Just goes to show its one of those games that will continue to stand out!

So, any word if BioWare will upload Mass Effect: Genesis to the Cerberus Netowork on all platforms before January 18th so any problems can be worked out beforehand? Since, you know, PS3 users need this ready as soon as they get the disc (unlike the other stuff, which is used later).

sorry but reviews before a game is released just sounds fishy........plus gamesmaster magazine has been caught a few times taking bribes for good reviews for games.

most game mag's i read ony review games that are currently or just released on the market not before, remember gamesmaster gave the worst game in history (Daikatana) a super effective rating of 90% because they were given a super cool version pre-release / preview of the game, 3 weeks after its release game reviewers gave it a really huge score of....3% and they all gave it that score out of pity.

gamesmaster magizine cant be trusted for reviews, they give hits mediocre scores at best and give crappy versions high scores so expect the ps3 version of ME2 to suck, they cant beat the origonal ME2 on the xbox because everyone knows the best games go on xbox first :D

unless its ps3 exclusives which all end up being total pants, remember theres games out there on both the xbox and the ps3 and the xbox version gets higher ratngs for gfx/ sound and playability (burnout paradise, red dead redemption, bioshock 2, gta4 just to name a few) you'd be surprised at what games are better on the xbox than the ps2.

it has been proven that the ps3 HD games are not true hd games just an elarged version of the origonal games, hell the xbox hd games have hd gfx and they do show.

i'm not a xbox fanboy as i have a ps3, ps2, wii, ds, xbox360 but i do know what system can do what, with enough investigation you can also find out that all ps3 games are just normal dvd-9 discs or the HD-DVD discs as the bluray drive cant convert game data into an actual playable game.

in a weird type of way microsoft won the hd-dvd battle as sony are paying microsoft for the license for hd-dvd technligy / software.

bluray is primaraly audio/video

I buy the score. I do not buy the sentiment that this version is better. That is personal preference and seeing the statement: "You don't miss out on the events of the first game, thanks to the interactive comic, and you've all the extras existing players have had access to" makes me skeptical at best. I know a marketing ploy when I see one. I know darn well that ME 1 is better than the comic. So no I already own the game, I'm not terribly excited for it.

I can only agree that if for some reason you never played Mass Effect and have a PS3 and 360 and want all the bonus content for ME 2 the PS3 version isn't a bad deal. That's it. I know the PS3 version will be fine but I never buy into "This version is clearly best even though it originally came out on this system".

Congratulations on the score, but please do not try and lie to me for the sake of hype.

It's called a "review copy".  They've only been doing it for, oh, just about forever.

This is really non-news, we already know this game is universally appreciated.

But I'd still like to congratulate you for all the score.

version to plump for? if you own both console wouldn't it make more sense to put down $20 for ME1 and get it on 360? oh well, gamemaster doesn't always make sense to me.

Actually, I own both the Xbox 360 and PS3.  I prefer the PS3 controller as it's smaller and I have smallish hands so I can hit the trigger buttons a bit better.  I will be picking up Mass Effect 2 on the PS3.  I know it seems a little foolhearty, but it's just my preface.
Plus I have more hard drive space on my PS3!

Yes, but unfortunately those who get "review copies" tend to be mags who agree to work as hype machine, too often atleast. It doesnt matter how much the game sucks, it is hyped with high scores before the release until respected ones get their hands on their own copies and truth gets revealed...

In this case however there is no fear that the game would suck. Mass Effect 2, despite its flaws, is one of the best games I have played last 10 years. I have lost count how many times I have played the damn thing and I have another playthrough going on which I will continue the moment I quite browsing this forum. PS3 players will be in for a treat and thats a fact! (if ME2 PS3 version is free from technology problems that is)

That made me laugh.

As for going for the PS3 version if you have a PS3 AND a 360?  No.  ME2 on 360 plus all DLC will, today, set you back approximately the same price as the PS3 version of ME2 (or significantly less if you take advantage of game.co.uk's £4.99 January sale price).  So why deny yourself the opportunity to enrich the world that much more by importing a ME1 Shepard and bumping into people here and there that you met in the first game?  Sure the comic lets you make the most important decisions, but the ultimate ME2 experience will always be with a ME1 import save, regardless of what some reviewer has been paid to spout...

I've got ME 1 and ME 2 on Xbox. Sorry I don't need a new console to make my favorite franchise better. PS3 owners will never have the fun with ME 1 like myself and PC users get. In my book the experience is better with ME 1 play through first. IT makes the game even more richer. I would actually like to see if Bioware could dub down the game of ME 2 and put it on the Wii now that is something I would pay to see.

I don't see why they can't make an exporter that lets you use PC saves on the PS3 version, that would be better than any comic book.

Great idea. I hope Bioware thinks of this.
