It's Thread the Third!

This thread is dedicated to what people would like to see in a gay romance for male Hawke. Your tastes, your expectations, your hopes. Speculation and discourse over these possible romances are allowed. But, please remember this thread is not a political soapbox. That's not the topic of this thread.

Inflammatory comments are not allowed. I will call attention to a mod immediately if I see one. For anyone who wants this thread to stay open, don't respond. That's the best and quickest way to diffuse a situation.

Here's the old thread, which has some excellent answers from the developers on many questions you might have. Peruse it first before asking, please.

Romances for all orientations are being included in DAII, so rejoice!

Q: Concerning the romances and love interest, are all the followers subject to this if I take in account the two genders of Hawke?

A: Not every follower is interested romantically in Hawke, though there are options for players of all genders and orientations.

If someone wishes to take part in the conversation, then heed Saibh's warning: this is not a vehicle to complain about Mass Effect, make inflammatory or insulting comments or discuss real world politics without a direct bearing on DA2.

Traditionally it's been impossible to talk about these romances without going there, so we'll see-- but if another thread needs to be shut down thanks to flagrant disregard for these rules it'll be taking a few of you with it. Duly warned.

So are you planning to make one for DA2, or any other future game? Posted Image

The official Frequently Asked Questions section hints non-companion romances. Do you think there could be a male homosexual relationship outside the party?

Of course there could be. I don't see how it would be impossible.

Talk amongst yourselves, I gave you a topic. I am so verklempt!

I am hopeful though, since Mass Effect 2 was shorter than the first one, but it had more romances.

I mean the stage was kind of set with the Kelly Chambers "romance" in ME2 to make non-companion romance options. Although you spend more time with your companions and they're likely going to be more developed, I'd be completely open to non-companion romances. It could really help to level out the field so that there's something for everyone.

But in general I'm totally in favor of s/s relationship option in the game as long as its not achievement tied. Personally I don't care but I know some people could get really uncomfortable if they're forced to s/s for an achievement. The way Origins handled - with two bisexual characters - I think worked well so you could s/s if you wanted or you could go for it hetero.

Pretty much, I'd like to see somebody different from Zevran. Don't get me wrong, I though Zevran was great; but still, different characters are awesome. I have pretty much full confidence in that though, pretty much every Bioware romance I've played have been different and well done

What I'd like to see in DA:2 (and in future games) are just more cameos from non-heterosexual characters that may or may not have anything to do with romances. I'd also like to get a better idea of how sexuality is viewed in Thedas, and more opportunities to define my character's sexuality...like maybe to a flirting character of the opposite sex, my character could respond with a "Sorry, I'm gay" type response. Of course, I'm pretty much happy with whatever.

I have my doubts.
You weren't able to maintain a relationship in DA:O with any of the non-party members.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was M/M flirting, as there was in DA:O, though. And I'd welcome it - it's a nice touch.

Oh, and I'd also like to see a non-rogue male bisexual/gay love interest.

I liked Zevran a lot, but maybe as a contrast to him we could have someone who is very serious, broody, and masculine in contrast with Zevran's carefree, flirty, flamboyant attitude. Also, I think it would be neat to have him be exclusively gay (as in you couldn't romance him as a female) since there have been so many bi characters, but apart from Juhani I don't know of any gay LI's in a Bioware game. I'm not too picky though, I think it's great that Bioware isn't afraid to offer same sex LI's in the first place. Posted Image

Juhani was the only exclusively homosexual characters in Bioware games so far. There wasn't really that much romance content though.

Wasn't really a romance but you could marry Anora. So you could suspect the Warden could have some sort of romance going on in the future at least. I mean that's a start, no?

I realize this is the M/M romance thread but someone mentioned non-PC/companion gay couples in DA and then someone complained about Branka/Hespith.

Noooo. That was awesome.

Branka must be female, she's Oghren's wife. Broodmothers can only be female. Branka could obviously not turn a male lover into a broodmother. Nor would Hespith going 'she turned me into a broodmother and I thought we were buddies!' work as well either.

The lead up to the Broodmother has got to be some of my favorite writing storytelling* in the game. I think it would be a shame if it had some of its teeth pulled because someone might interpret it as being unflattering to lesbians.

*Good writing, music, good animation for Hepith, good environmental design. I actually forgot how much I hated the earlier part of the deep roads.

I hope its optional like it was in DA1, because i absolute hate romance in video games or stupid sex jokes. It is just wrong, and i don't like it. It is optional right?

Just my opinion

I would think all romances would be optional.  They were in Origins.

And this time the game seems to be devoid of ninjamances. Thank god.

Actually, one reviewer said they tried to be friendly with a companion and ended up in bed.

Yes, let's hope that's true.  I didn't like either ninjaromance in Origins.

Well just like any other romantic interest I want the experience to be worthwhile and not just a crawl through a dialogue tree to what is for a lot of us a tired concept of a 'reward'. The journey itself should be an experience and it shouldn't simply drop off once it's reached a sexual stage. Also a point I forgot to mention in the main romances thread, I don't think that sex should be the end of it. I don't mean just carrying on the dialouge etc, but removing it from that part of the process so that if it does happen in the game it shouldn't feel as though it just presented the player for their hardwork, that just reduces the experience.

That and I don't want to feel like I'm romancing 'Puss in Boots'. Any companion that can be romanced should have a more rounded character than Zevran. Although I liked Zevran and thought he had some good backstory if you cared to ask him, I didn't think he was as developed as say someone like Morrigan.

Male/Male?

Please, then a man with man face, body and gestures like a man, not like a woman.

Because gay likes the same sex.

Man with man, woman with woman.

And not, man with a man who looks like woman ¬¬

I know this is the M/M romance thread, so maybe not the right place, but wouldn't it be interesting to perhaps have pregnancies result from the romances?  We do have 10 years, after all.

That said, I also agree in general - the romances in Origins seemed stilted once they slept together.

Forgive me, but what do you mean by ninjamances?
