No? My only Awakening playthorugh was as queen of Ferelden, but I remember one Anders line ("I love you! ... but, er, not in that way") or some variation thereof, that appeared to me to have been written as a gay joke but then kept for female warden's too.

What? When did that happen? I don't remember that happening!

Anders was always bisexual, if you ask me. Come on, he was totally hitting on Nathaniel. And even if Anders isn't a romance-option for manHawke, you won't be able to convince me that he's totally bisexual anyway.

Yes, and where was that statement made? On an internet messageboard.

Which brings us back to my original point.

Gaider often posts joking mini-dialogues for his characters -- are they canon too?

I wouldn't say the story was as tossed-off as a line about Flemeth's "appointment" to get her hair did, but it lies along the same continuum.

But the short stories were presented as a way to get to know the characters. This isn't the same as a joke about characters posted in conversations.

Yeah, if the only reason to doubt they're canon is b/c Gaider sometimes jokes on these threads, in my view it seems more likely than not that they're canon.

It never seemed likely to me that Anders was bi since Oghren joked once about a templar showing Anders his "sword" with obvious innuendo and Anders' reaction was "eww."  It could be he just disliked the thought of doing a templar, but then there would be the weirdness that he found that one female templar attractive...

The best RPG combat ever. Not gaming's best story, but maybe it's best storytelling. Darker, sexier, better
OK looking over the re\\-Romantic options unconstrained, you meet a party member chances are you can "bone" them. his words not mine. Your siblings being the obvious exceptions.
- Incidental conversations are splendid, ruder, funnier and just plain better than Origins.

The PC Gamer UK interview. *just bullets and the like obviously not my post. Made on some RPGCodex forum.

Fine, whatever. If you want to ignore and discredit entire stories by the actual writers and posted by BioWare officially just because they're posted here on the boards, then you're free to do so.

Well, here's what JH had to say about it in the Anders thread:

"The short story is about the first time Vengeance takes over. Anders is
totally unprepared for what was going to happen, so it's a bit more...
graphic and extreme... than it becomes when he actively tries to control
it. Not that he always succeeds at controlling Vengeance, by any means,
but he's at least putting up a fair fight."

So, while you can say that Anders was... 'a cannibal in the moment' (because he'd lost control) it's not an event that is likely to occur again (at least not in such an extreme form.)

To me at least, it was obvious that this sword-showing was of dubious consent on Anders' part. "Ew" is appropriate.

Context is always a nice thing:

Anders: You don't actually think your jokes are funny, do you?
Oghren: Could have sworn that fly was buzzing again.
Anders: "HAR! Let me tell you about my life in one word!" (Belches)
Oghren: "Oh no! Don't take me back to the tower! I'm far, far too delicate!"
Anders: "I'm not only a dwarf, I'm a moron! Listen to me fart!"
Oghren: "Oh no, big templar man! What are you going to do with that sword?"
Anders: Eww.
Oghren: Don't play with fire unless you want to get burned, son.

...Though if that does allude to rape it's crude and in really bad taste. But Oghren was crude and had bad taste so that's not exactly a shocker.

Wow, that interpretation never occurred to me, but if it's the correct one then it's incredibly inappropriate for Bioware to be joking about rape.  I'll accept huge amounts of inappropriate humor in a video game but not that.

Shrug, it's OGHREN. It would be OOC for him NOT to make a sodomy joke like that. Tasteless as hell, like everything else he does.

Really? That was an innuendo?

"Oh big Templar man! What are you going to do with that sword?"

I mean, yeah, you can make it an innuendo, but I thought the literal image of getting hacked to bits by the drug addicts that hunt your kind for sport was enough of a reason to go "eww." And, of course, it wa s alow blow for Oghren to bring up Templars in a "let's make fun of each other" contest, so I never really thought of that comment as a gay joke.

Annnnnnyway, lumping gifts of jewlery and pretty clothing on Anders never really came across as entirely "straight" to me. Just sayin'. Metrosexual, at the very least.

...How does being metrosexual dictate being sexually attracted to males or females? That train of logic makes as much sense as the tomboys being lesbians spiel.

Sodomy jokes are great though.  I thought it just meant that Oghren was implying Anders was asking in a please-show-me kind of way.

Re: the short stories... They were written by the authors of the respective characters and posted by Bioware on it's official forums. You want to ignore them, there's plenty of sand in the world to stick your head in. Just sayin'.

Re: Ogren's joke... There are different ways to interpret it but I've known plenty of gay men who gleefully joke about same-sex rape. Tasteful? No, but not mean spirited either. And Ogren sets himself up for a few gay jokes himself bi wouldn't get to bent outta shape over it.

Hmm, sorry, I did not mean to offend. I never identified with metrosexuals very well, or really understood the "movement" (besides the South Park episode) but that doesn't give me the right to make careless comments that could be hurtful. If you'd like, I can edit the comment and delete the "metrosexual" part.

Anyway, I'm not surprised that Anders is probably bisexual. Maybe that's crass on my part, but whatcha gonna do.... I dunno, but to me, he always seemed to be flirting with Nathaniel!

There are "manly" straight men who do the same thing.

Has less to do with how they dress and more to do with who they enjoy having sex with. Just sayin'

Ah personally I'm sensitive to it because of personal experiences (well the female version of it). So...yeah that would be great.

Nathaniel is a stupid sexy flanders. Everyone was flirting with him. Even the darkspawn wanted a piece of that Howe. :innocent:

Anders makes light of horrible things.  It's what he does.  He cheerfully tells you that a cat killed three templars.

I had him figured as bi, though.  He seems the free spirited type, and the Circle is supposedly more libertine than Ferelden as a whole.  So even if he talked about pretty women, I could see him hopping borders for the right guy or the right circumstance.  Plus there's that "not when I'm naked I'm not" comment.  A hetero guy doesn't say that to another guy, at least not in that tone of voice.

As a many gay man i agree with this i was just giving an example of when it could be true perhaps anders has repressed sexual feelings for men brought out by vengence? Or maybe justice had them and passed them to anders when he entered him.
