Pessimism gives win-win situations. One gets to be right or pleasantly surprised.
I don't see it as win-win, actually. I would take no joy from being right in that situation. It would be a hollow victory, no? It would for me. What would I gain from being able to say 'I told you so' to people? Nothing.
I stand firm in my belief that, for me at least, I would prefer to enjoy the build up with optimistic anticipation even if it means not getting what I ultimately want, than spending the next few days already feeling blue at the prospect of something that hasn't even happened yet.
I have to agree with catabuca here. If we pessimists do turn out to be right then I'm definitely not going to have a, "HA HA! WE WERE RIGHT. IN YOUR FACE" moment. I will most likely be sobbing ugly tears in the corner.

I think I will simply opt for thinking "better luck next time, next Bioware game", optimist as I am now sworn.

Confirmation from someone playing a review copy:
Klace wrote ...
I've been playing my review copy sent LEGITIMATELY from my contacts at fortyseven. (The PR firm.)
Fenris and Anders are both bi.
The
person you take Anders to see that gets turned Tranquil is his
ex-lover. He asked my MHawke if it offended him that he has been with
other men.
My response was: "I'm just glad I didn't find out sooner."
And I flirted with Fenris.
And Fenris laughed and returned, but said he would invite me over to his house and next time he would work on his own flattery.
Original post.
-------
Welcome to the post of epic speculation and tentative extrapolation.
I'm not the sort of person to take a couple of sentences and wildly blow them out of all proportion and attribute to them meaning that does not in anyway shape or form exist, nope, not me, but let us look at the
German Demo: Anders male kiss files.
German Review: statement that Fenris is a bi LI; screenshot of flirt/romance dialogue with Fenris; statement that bi romances options are AUFGESTOCKT.
* German Review clarification: the editor replied saying: he flirted with Fenris as mHawke (does not say whether Fenris flirted back or not); he flirted with Anders as mHawke, and Anders flirted back (does not say whether this could lead to romance or not); he had a full romance with Isabela as fHawke; mHawke can flirt with a veritable smorgasbord of men outside of the party, in and around Kirkwall (he does not say whether any of these lead to any romantic encounters or not).
UK GamesMaster Review: shows mHawke having the same flirt line as fHawke had in the 1UP video with Anders; reviewer says that "characters think with their pants (or contents of,
anyway) as much as their heads and then says 'we received an offer we
needed to refuse from Anders'" while playing as mHawke.
PSM3 Review: says there is "plenty of freedom in the romance department"
Ser Gaider comment #1: does shoot down presumption that there is definitely only 1 bi option per gender, warning us we shouldn't assume that.
Ser Gaider comment #2: doesn't shoot down rampant speculation on the 'THEY'RE ALL BI' betting thread, and instead smiles and says HE LIKES THE PICTURE OF ALL LIs IN BED TOGETHER AND HAS MADE IT HIS WALLPAPER.
Ser Gaider comment #3: comments from the first 'all bi' thread (now locked) –
David Gaider wrote...
Just a few comments on this topic:
* No matter what happens, it would never be a situation of "the entire party hitting on you". All romances we do, no matter how they're set up, are going to require at least some interest expressed on the part of the player. Having a romance-specific icon should indicate when that's possible. While I agree that the idea of a character hitting on you first is realistic, it's not ideal for a game... and breaking it down to some kind of up-front menu choice that says "do you want a romance?" or "what sexuality would you prefer?" is getting just too blatantly meta for something that's a secondary element to begin with.
* There's absolutely nothing wrong with making all romances accessible to any gender. It just requires a different approach, from a writing standpoint-- you could have a situation where the sexuality of the character is subjective (meaning if you're romancing them and they're the same gender, then they're either gay or at least gay-curious, but otherwise they're straight) or they simply don't discuss it or discuss their past relationships-- meaning it's a romance with the player and sexual identity isn't part of the equation. It could also be that all the romances are bisexual to everyone... but that'd be my least favorite option.
Would we do this? I'm not really going to say one way or the other-- but if we did I think it's safe to assume we wouldn't set out to implement it in the worst way possible.
Ms Hepler comment #1: used an aggressive interrupt to dispell the notion that Anders wouldn't be bi because we meet him first; told us not to generalise.
PC Gamer Review: told us chances are if they exist we can get jiggy with them (okay, okay, so they got some elements wrong, but let's go with the spirit of the thing); suggested one of those that either Hawke can get jiggy with was Anders.
Merrill/custom!fHawke screenshot: depicting sexytimes (see the Merrill thread); may be modded and/or photoshopped (but don't let that little fact stop you believin'). EDIT: There are now 5 MerrillxfHawke romance screenshots ...
Super-Spoiler Thread comment #1: by Morroian "It occurs to me that the romance flags may indicate all 4 of the LIs are bi."
Ergo, therefore, and without further ado, I hereby proclaim the Optimists VICTORIOUS.

You forgot to mention the preview that said if they were in your party, you could most likely bang them. Now we know we can't bang Aveline or Varric, but the reviewer might have meant LIs and only used the wrong words...
DAMMIT! WHY AM I HELPING THE OPTIMIST SIDE? I'M SETTING MYSELF UP FOR DISAPPOINTMENT.

They also didn't shoot down that Varric was a LI, despite months of hoping. What they do or do not choose to reveal is up to them.
