Because they're anthropomorphised to the extent that they're functionally humans in makeup, and are intentionally appealing to the straight audience to which they're intented to present a romance.

If they were truly representative of an alien (as in, external rather than "xenomorph"), like a hanar, then that would be engaging a (very, in this case) audience, and your comparison would be apt, as in: if you you make content intended for a very small portion of the audience, why not for a larger one?

^ but in that same respect, the audience of people who want to date aliens that aren't sexy blue females with big breasts is small. Garrus would certainly not fit to that example as well as Tali and Liara. Thus, there was a small fanbase of us girls who wanted a romance with Garrus and still got it. Despite rashes and anatomy. xD Thus, Jademoon isn't so wrong using such a comparison.

Y'know what I would like to see in the DAII m/m? A little bit of sturm und drang. The m/m in Jade Empire if I remember correctly was a little bit touchy feely, discover-yourself type of stuff. And Zev was great with witty, funny, banter. Very Oscar Wilde.

But I could use something with *teeth* now. Something... I dunno. Smoldering. Zev was languorous. Now lets have something that snaps and crackles. Does that make sense?

yes. that's why i want a rivalry bi romance. There's always some heated spark in that. >8) Lets take that Isabela and Hawke scene, and replace her with a he. xD

I'm actually really excited to see how the Izzy romance plays out with Lady!Hawke (assuming she's the bi LI, that is.)  *sigh* I can't wait until we get some bigger reveals, but they're probably a long way off. =(

Sorry! To be honest, before today I wasn't super excited for Fenris man-lovin' (I've still got my fingers crossed for some mystery-mage man-lovin') but now.... I really, really, really want it! I need to know if he's a firey, up-against-the-wall kind of guy, or a smoldering, tender lovemaker.

I disagree on the grounds of what was discussed earlier in regards to Anders' personality. =) I'm voting on Fenris. I'm finally excited about the elf choice this time around. xD I love stoic warrior types. Don't care if he goes either way, Katie. I'd go with both versions.

plus...a human li? that's so boring, specially since i can only play a human. *pouts*

I know that it isn't going to happen, but personally I would like the possiblity of having any of your commrads, whether male or female, being able to fall in love with the PC, whether male or female. Characters that are completely uninterested in romance (like Sten) are usually boring as all get out, focusing only on one thing and one thing only (like fighting the darkspawn). There's really not much growth in those people to begin with and it doesn't really mimic real life that well. I like the possibility of starting up a romance with anyone because, not only does it give them a whole range of new topics to talk about that aren't completely related to your main goal, but it also makes them seem more human.



In real life it is possible to start a romance with anyone. Granted, some people are going to be MUCH harder than others (like people who have completely different interest or are the same gender and not currently interested in your gender), but hey, who knows what can really happen in real life, right? I think that it would just make it more dynamic to have the possibility, even if you decide against it.



What I don't want is to have a character that constently hits on you, even after you refuse their offers, whether guy or girl. I hope that they have ways to reject a character's advances and have them stop for good, unless if you change your mind later and intentionally choose options that can restart those dialoges. That way, whether straight or gay, you can start or stop any advances from your teammates at whim and you don't have to feel uncomfortable about "that flirtatious/gay character" if it's against your personal or religious beliefs. I think that gives the best of both worlds for everyone without forcing people to "just deal" with any advances.

no it's not.
Some people really are just straight and have no interest in the same sex and never will. Some people, conversely, really are just gay or lesbian and have no interest in the opposite sex and never will.

And then some people just really aren't compatible. Especially if you have completely different interests. Which is to say so different that you have nothing at all in common. Even if you try to fake it and pretend you like the same things and tell yourself that you'll either grow to like it or just grow to not hate it so much. One day you'll miss being single because at least then you could listen to your NIN albums without some insufferable @#&! whining on and on about how "it's too angry" while making that little stink face and lamenting about how Mariah is the best singer in the world so much that you really wonder if he could only ever be happy dating one of her old thongs because that's about the only thing far enough up her rear to "get him"...

Making everyone an LI wouldn't be all that realistic.

You said you thought Sten was boring but I would ask if you felt the same about Wynne, Shale, and all of the companions from Awakening. Or even if you felt the same about those characters you didn't romance the first time through.

This was my primary issue with ME2, and one of the main reasons I prefer DAO as a game. And I still maintain that Morrigan is a much better character when she is not romanced, but naturally that is my opinon. YMMV. My favourite characters in Origins, however, were by-and-large the non-romancable ones: Shale, Sten. I still maintain that the best actual romance in DAO was Zevran, as either gender.

So, it's been sort of confirmed that unnamed mystery mage is indeed Anders. To my way of thinking that increases the chance that Fenris is the bi option.



Thoughts anyone?

I'm really not sure... It could strongly go either way, in my opinion... I can see Anders as the females-only option (which is hilarious because he looks so much like Alistair) and Fenris as the bisexual option, which is ALSO hilarious because it sets a pattern in elf-sexuality.

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who read some flirtiness into those banters. I know he's most explicit when he mentions women, but I still get the sense that he might have something of an open mind, to quote Zevran.

Honestly, I'd be happy with either Anders or Fenris. Anders would finally give us a human LI, and I adored him in Awakening (almost as much as Nathaniel...almost). On the other hand, I've wanted a warrior for an LI for quite some time now, and Fenris would fufill that role. I'd be least pleased with Varric for the vainest of reasons (his build is something of a turn-off), but I wouldn't count him out completely.

I never really got any vibe that he flirted with Nate at all. His comments to Velanna about her tattoos, and the lady templar, as well as his 'Eww.' response to Ogren's mention of big swords make it clear to me he is exclusively hetero (or keeping other preferences close to his chest).

People still assume Alistair is flirting with the male Warden. If it wasn't explicit, I wouldn't call it flirtatious.

And that's a bug. I remember everyone getting really excited about it, because they thought he was a secret romance. One of the devs was like "No. Bug."
