How have the characters and romances not been cheapened?  Instead of giving the characters a predefined sexuality, their sexuality is now completely subjective to the whims of the PC..

That looks pretty cheap to me.  Character development and integrity takes a backseat to the fulfillment of the PCs wants and desires.   It's silly of you to even argue over something as obvious as this..[/quote]

I actually didn't want to get involved in all this, but your comment really bothers me. I'm a bisexual woman. I've met wonderful women and fell in love with some of them. Then I met the sweetest guy in the world and will marry him. Does that make me cheap? Because I can fall for a person regardless of their gender? No, it just makes me a bisexual woman.

It doesn't mean I hit on everything that moves or that I'll sleep with anyone who doesn't get away fast enough. It just means that I like certain character traits in people and will be attracted to them. And I trust BioWare enough to expect that they'll display the same thing with the available LIs.

Sure, Isabella will hit on you, no matter what, but that's because she's Isabella. I expect Merrill will simply fall in love with Hawke as a person, no matter whether male or female and I cannot for the life of me understand how this can cheapen anyone's experience. If anything, it enriches the game.

On behalf of all the other non-homophobic straight males out there, I just want to say, "Congrats on your cake! Here's hoping that in the future, we remember there's plenty of cake to go around for everyone."

I for one have every confidence in Bioware's ability to make the sexuality of their characters feel real, integral to their characterization and logical. Four bisexual people in one place is not such a big coincidence, even. There are more bisexual people in my acquaintance; heck, there are more homosexual people too. And I'm not a champion of anything.

Anyway... My first will still be Isabela (growly Lady Hawke warrior for her), probably rivalry path. That's for f/f thread, probably, though >_>

The next is Fenris, of course, who already has a hunky humorous rogue waiting for him. I'm waiting to see if I can get him to lighten up. Although of course at some point I will have to have an angsty magemance because it's just not possible not to play it out when it's right there for the taking, just like it's impossible not to play Chantry sympathizer/Anders romance.

Lady Hawke and Merrill because she is just too adorable for me. Followed by Male Hawke and Anders because I can see the two of them making an amusing couple.

People are mad at all of the love interests being bisexual? Fun.
I would argue in any case that it is not "their" game anyway.

This isn't the place for discussions on percentages of populations and so on. Take it to another thread set up specifically for that, or to PM.

Threads have been locked for less. We do not want this thread to be locked. Carfax may want this thread locked, and engaging with him/her on this issue is a sure way for that to happen.

Please, move on and just enjoy the party.

And with that in mind, now we know they're all bi, have you all decided who you're going to pursue first, with whom, and why?

You're right, sorry. We don't want this thread to get locked, too.

So, more celebrating with the all-bi happy dance?

Oh  - and it's going to be Anders in my first playthrough.

And then Fenris....with the rogue....in the mansion! (it's LI-Clue!)

Are you saying you would have preferred it if you could decide ahead of time the sexual orientations of the characters? Before you were complaining that it breaks immersion and makes things unrealistic, so if you think this would be more realistic, when did you "choose" your own sexuality?

I didn't say it would be more realistic.  I meant that if Bioware is seemingly all about providing choice to it's customers, then why not go all the way?

Now if LI's sexuality is contextually driven (it has to be pursued or activated), then it wouldn't be a problem......unless Bioware makes it easy to accidentally trigger romance dialogue like in the first game.

Oh, completely random thing - DA2 happens to be the first game in which one of my PCs will be a gay male :o

That said, in a lot of recent games, peoples' gay male PCs have only been so as a result of head!canon, sadly

My first will be a rogue, Carrick Hawke. I'm still trying to decide between DW and archery. He loves his sister, is fiercely loyal to his family, especially after the losses they have had to deal with. Having seen the pain being on the run as an apostate has caused, Carrick has a deep distrust of the Chantry and Templars, even though he does believe in the Maker (to an extent, he's not devout, he believes almost by default). He will romance Anders, and it will be Anders who has an impact on how he views the mage/chantry situation. Despite his distrust of the Chantry, Carrick never had any real political beliefs about what should be done about it, beyond making sure Bethany was safe. Anders will open his eyes to the extent of feeling involved, and just how unjust the situation is. That said, it remains to be seen which side Carrick will fall down in once the game plays out. It may be that he accepts the fire inside Anders and agrees to help him no matter what. On the other hand, perhaps he will realise there needs to be balance and compromise, that vengeance is never an answer. We'll have to wait and see.

Anders won't even mention he's bisexual, most likely, without you explicitely asking him or flirting with him. So... you kind of DO have a choice in knowing whether or not he's bi. Had you not read these forums, never flirted with him, I bet you'd never have guessed he was bisexual.

Well if thats the case, then I won't have a problem then I suppose.. But we'll see..

Gaider seems hellbent on promoting some kind of homosexual agenda, so I'm very skeptical.

Very well said and detailed.....mine is just a pyromaniac who wants to see the chantry burn because it would be pretty, which of course makes Anders a perfect fit.:)

I'm very happy I can romance any of the LIs. Posted Image

Ignoring the trollish part of your comment, Bioware has outright stated that they are trying to avoid the accidental romances by using the heart icon to indicate a flirt response.

Why do statistics taken from relatively contemporary US population have to apply everywhere, especially in a fictional enviroment? The labels ******-, hetero- and bisexual didn't even exist a few hundred years ago. Granted, the game was created by people living in a time and enviroment where most people use them to categorize things. But the concept of sexuality aiming at certain genders is a relatively new definition. It used to be just another thing one could do and in some cultures it was much more important of who did what to whom for example. (Whether it was generally aproved of is a different issue.)

Compared to the world we live in it may be unrealistic for them to be all bi, but the point is to create as many different ways to play the game for as many people as possible. The amount of people who probably want to play the game with either one or all LI as s/s option, combined with those who don't want to, but support the possibility for others and the numbers of those who don't care either way is probably larger than the sum of the ones who have a problem with all being bi to a point that it ruins the game for them. Sucks to be a minority.
