Forgive me for this dear, you know I like you but...

My first will be a rogue, Carrick Hawke. I'm still trying to decide between DW and archery. He loves his sister, is fiercely loyal to his family, especially after the losses they have had to deal with. Having seen the pain being on the run as an apostate has caused, Carrick has a deep distrust of the Chantry and Templars, even though he does believe in the Maker (to an extent, he's not devout, he believes almost by default). He will romance Anders, and it will be Anders who has an impact on how he views the mage/chantry situation. Despite his distrust of the Chantry, Carrick never had any real political beliefs about what should be done about it, beyond making sure Bethany was safe. Anders will open his eyes to the extent of feeling involved, and just how unjust the situation is. That said, it remains to be seen which side Carrick will fall down in once the game plays out. It may be that he accepts the fire inside Anders and agrees to help him no matter what. On the other hand, perhaps he will realise there needs to be balance and compromise, that vengeance is never an answer. We'll have to wait and see.

FENRIS. (single target sexuality )

And with that in mind, now we know they're all bi, have you all decided who you're going to pursue first, with whom, and why?

Now that I intend to eventually buy the game again, once given certain reassurances from people I already know will get it anyway....

I'm going to roll a mage MHawke and see where it goes.  I didn't ask for Zevran in the first game, after all, but was pleasantly surprised by how much he grew on me and how mature the character was underneath the humor/sensuality shield.  I suspect this Hawke's going to end up foreveralone because he won't push Fenris on his views, being the sort of mage who just wants to be left alone, and he's going to find Anders too militant/slightly annoying for the same reasons.  More of a weird "what could have been" than any actual relationships.  That one's probably destined for the worst ending possible, since no one is going to have a compelling reason to stay with him despite his being a pleasant enough fellow.  Not a very memorable champion, someone Varric did have to exaggerate about to make interesting.

I need a little "Hawke's left hand for LI" button to fit in my signature.  I'm so dreadfully pleased they're all available to everyone, but I don't think I'll be romancing anyone right off unless there's another surprise as wonderful as Zevran was.

Colin Firth is lovely.

He is, and that movie, while incredibly sad, blew me away. It's so beautifully made, his performance (hell, all the performances) was superb, and the whole thing was just a stunning, moving experience. *Sigh*

*leaves to go watch it on Blu Ray again lol*

My Mage Hawke is going for Fenris. I have known this to be true from the start. Wish him luck...

If you really like Colin Firth, you should watch the King's Speech as well. It's fantastic! :o

Shh... We can't let the straight people learn of our agenda to slowly introduce them to gay culture, making them weak and accepting, only to reveal that we're actually overlords from the planet GaxxKrr'zack who couldn't care less about sex. If they discover that we are just out to enslave the entire population of Earth, we won't be able to force them to farm smurf berries in order to power our time travel machine.

I wonder if, like Origins, there will be LGTB characters in the story outside of the party. GayGamer.net has been running an awesome little thing on gay characters in DA:O.

So it's confirmed all LI are bi?

disappointing....Why even bother choosing a gender now other than to hear a different voice.

Oh well once the game is released i shall start my lobbying for 1 Straight 1 Bi and 1 gay LI per gender in future bioware games,I will be mad as hell though if i have to go through getting hit on by every LI again like zevran.

For the people that are mad that everyone is BI:

I'm going to laugh if people still end up getting ninjamanced. If you do it'll be no one's fault but your own. How simple can Bioware make their dialogue system for you????

Because there's more to your character than who they romance? Given that BioWare games pride themselves on equality for the genders, why should romance be any different?

Or do people today only choose gender based on who they can romance?

Gender and sexuality are different but related things.  Need to get that one straight (hah!) before you can argue about it.

Whining because the ability to select an option doesn't fit ~your vision~ is frankly rather pathetic. It's an entire game about choices; if the development team adding choices you don't personally like breaks your immersion, I don't know how you even got this far. Variation in the player experience is not only a staple of RPGs, but one of the most defining features of the genre.

Your arguement would be more credible if gamers actually had a choice in this, but they don't.....at least not if they don't want their characters to have any sort of gay relationships..

If I want Anders to be straight and not bisexual, where is my choice?

Wait, what? Okay, that's just stupid. Anders is a character that the development team made, he's not yours to change around. You've never been able to choose the personality of npc's in Bioware games, the most you can do is influence their viewpoints by talking with them (just like in real life.) That's like saying "If I want Zevran to be chaste and Orlesian where's my choice?" It just doesn't make sense.

Now that I know all the options are open I'm not going to commit to anything before I play the game. They both seem like interesting characters. I'll just have to wait and see which one gels more with the character I'm playing.

But the only thing that signifigantly contrasted the genders signifigantly in origins was the choice of LI.
Now the only difference between your gender will be whether you sibling calls you sister or brother.

I like that story plan. Definitely gives depth to how you will play!

They are all bisexual? That's pretty lame. I understand that developers want to give the minority (and whining straight majority who just want it for fun's sake) same sex romances, but character wise it just looks silly - Hawke is surrounded by bisexual companions all around? Well, you don't see that every day in real life that's for sure. I just hope they are not so annoying about their alternative side like Zevran was - talking with him with a straight male Warden was like walking on a mine field, I had to choose what to say very carefully to get rid of him with no hard feelings. I didn't like to roleplay so cautiously in Origins and I'm pretty sure I won't like it if it will be the same in DA II.

Also, character wise there seems to be a bit of continuity lack with Anders, as I remember he liked girls and shooting fireballs on a whim in Awakening. Is he some kind of latent gay type? Him preferring men (notice no mention of women in his life?) will nag me forever. Same goes for Fenris if he's annoying.

Female bisexual girls are any straight teenager boy wet fantasy, I get it. Main auditory satisfied. Nuff said. Moving on.

So all in all, if these alternative options are not apparent and open up only after some persistence from the player then whatever, have fun with it. Although I very much doubt that you can avoid them mentioning being bi. Which is a shame really, as there will be no option for a 100% straight LI for us straight guys. I don't believe in bisexuality, as it usually tends to one side or another anyway and I don't believe in happy romances with gay/lesbian + opposite sex partner. So I'm beginning to think that I'm gonna pass if they are all annoying.

I love how so many of us are choosing to create Hawkes who will have differing backgrounds or opinions to the LIs we intend to romance.

I see a lot of mages going for Fenris, and templars/chantry types going for Anders. I like that we often gravitate towards natural discordance in order to deepen the experience.

To be fair you can make Zevran chaste by giving him the chastity belt from the feastday dlc.:P
