I'm sure you'll still get the same amount of enjoyment out of the game, Saibh. At least I hope you will. Since no choice has been taken away, only added. And more choice is a good thing in a game like this. Especially when it increases inclusiveness. That's how I look at it at least.

Of course. But it's just...sexuality is a part of identity. The characters are individuals, not my sex toys to be played with. If they're all bisexual, that just tells me that their sexuality was made into silly putty for Hawke's enjoyment. Rather than individuals their sexuality becomes, and this is someone else's phrasing, unisex jumpers. One size fits all.

I'm glad the gay and lesbian fans finally get more than one option, though.

Saibh do you feel it impossible for sexuality to still be apart of their identity with all of them identifying as bi?

I'd argue that choice is not always a great thing. The elder scrolls gives your more choice than any RPG, but it's story and leveling system suffer greatly from it.
Dragon age is more focused that it gives you choice, but limits it to reasonable scope.

One player's idea of 'reasonable' may not be another's though.

I for one am excited to see how this has been implemented, and just excited to get my hands on a game by a developer I love, set in a world I already love.

I feel that their characters as individuals was disregarded in exchange for that aforementioned jumper.

So what makes it impossible for four bisexual people to be in one place?

Edit: Don't mean to jump down your throat and my wording was clumsy.

Just I see you feel that way. But how about you try to see if you change your mind after playing through the game?
We know practically nothing about most of those characters except Anders.

Well we'll have to wait and see how it's been dealt with in the game. I have faith in them, and as Gaider said himself (and I have quoted more times than I care to remember), it would be wrong to think that if they implemented all-bi LIs that they would do so in the worst imaginable way. They have a pride in their work; they want to do the characters justice.

This is exactly what I was saying earlier, just in a much more abrasive manner.

I'm glad the gay and lesbian fans finally get more than one option, though.

If you think this is going to stop them from complaining, you're highly mistaken.  Until they get a bonifide gay romance option, they'll always whine..

Can't say I blame them though tbh.

You know, the implication there is that you are saying bisexual characters cannot be fully realised characters. That there is something about being straight that makes a character more believable than if they are bisexual.

Now, of course I know you're not actually suggesting that, because I'm sure that's not a view you hold, but it is something that could be implied from what you are arguing.

Because the sheer unlikliness of it is overwhelming. I don't support the number of LIs that Shepard has, either, even though all but Liara is straight (actually, I think it's more egregious that they're all straight, except for the one with no sense of gender). I think that it sets a poor precedent for the characters. That, once again, their individuality and believability is sacrificed so my PC can get some nookie.

Because they want the same content as everyone else, because they pay exactly as much money as everyone else? It's not whining, it's wanting more options.

Not really SO unlikely if you think about it. Remember they live in a world where homosexuality is not looked down upon like it is in the real world, and as far as I know, there are no religious texts condemning it, etc. I think a lot more people would be willing to open up their minds and experiences if we lived in a world like that, I've discovered even in the real world there are a lot more curious people out there then you'd think, but for most men who identify as straight, being suspected of being gay is the most horrifying concept they can fathom, so they constantly have to prove their masculinity. In the Dragon Age universe you can be a dude who sleeps with dudes and STILL be considered a bad-ass. If only we lived in such a progressive world. :(

Saibh how would you feel to these options for romance?
2 straight
2 Bi
2 gay
1 per gender for each Orientation of course.

Sheer unlikliness. Saibh. How likely is it for you to recruit a pirate queen, a dalish bloodmage elf whose chipper and innocent, a abomination like Anders who befriended the spirti first, a lyrium infused slave elf?

The sheer unlikliness in the game is overwhelming nearly always. As for ME you yourself said not to discuss that here remember :P but I understand your point.

There's also the fact that to them sexuality isn't such a big deal. It might not be such a distinguishing personality feature to them. They might not care. As for the individuals they might just be looking for love and not care where it comes from.

And DAO already sacrificed individulaity and believability for virtual nookie. I could get Morrigan to sleep with me despite being a pratical saint, I could get Alistair to marry me while being a complete monster as long as I was nice to him and gave him gifts, I could do the same with Leliana and Zevran. (Heck I could be a human supremist and still get Zevran to fall in love). Their individuality is nearly always sacrificed so the PC can get something though I fail to see how all being bisexual means their invidiuality was somehow lessened.

Hawke is building a harem so it's completely reasonable.  :P

As far as I know, the companions might not a actually be bi but non-sexual until the player flirts.  After all, the description of the Flirt icon says that it's "the only way to instigate a potential romance".

But it's also a world where admitting to it is discouraged. Even in the most open countries in the most open areas, the bisexual population is still enormously low.

I'd also like to say thank you to BW. And I feel sorry for them, because now this is out there, they're going to have to be a lot more heavy-handed on the forums dealing with some of the comments. Not necessarily in here (yes, we have our moments, but we manage to get it under control ourselves eventually), but elsewhere in threads started specifically about this, and other things. It makes their lives that much harder.

@Saibh: Where is it said admitting to bisexuality in Thedas was discouraged? Did Gaider mention something?

I don't think people choose sexuality. biCuriosity does not make one Bisexual.

And in DA1 we only met 2 Openly Bi sexual characters out of a cast of 100's it seemed to me most people in Origns were straight.
It seems odd that now we have half a party of Bi sexuals.
(Anyone else also find it odd we haven't met any openly Homosexuals in the all accecpting Da world?)
