I RISE FROM THE DEAD. I was very, very happy with the handling of M/M romances in DA2. In my opinion, the fear that the m/m romances would feel tacked on were completely baseless. Maybe it's just because I've only played through as a man, but I really felt that Fenris and Anders were believably gay. So much so that I'd argue I can't imagine them as being in m/f romances. However, I'm sure the fans of the straight romance see it the other way around, which makes the romances a resounding success. Also, I am hardcore Team Fenris, liek woah. I regret nothing. So... *crickets* ...how did you all like your playthrough? Thread is pretty dead now that we're all indulging in our mutual obsession :3

I liked the Fenris romance, but being a Mage I didn't like his hate for my MHawke (from an RPG standpoint). I did however ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Anders romance. I haven't quite finished yet, I'm in Act 3. But Anders is just so awesome, he gives more emotion than Fenris (which is understandable), and even though I was flirting them both at first, I chose Anders in the end.

They did seem to take out romance confrontations like in ME or DAO. But I did instead get a party banter where Fenris said to Anders, "You better not hurt him, because I will kill you!" (Or something along those lines, which I felt was really awesome, that he did acknowledge our previous relationship. I look forward to playing a girl and seeing how the Lesbian love is, and or how it is for Heterosexual love.

Oh and my MHawke did not even touch any of the girls! I'll save that for another playthrough.

I loved the Rivalmance with Fenris. Best thing ever. Anders's jealousy was funny too. ^^
I'm playing my Male Rogue once again, still romancing Fenris, but going for Friendmance, to see how really different it will be.
Romance in DA2 rocks everything. It was an excellent job (well except for the lack of nudity lol XD)

 I'm going to jump in here while its quiet, since its easy to get swamped when everyone is chatty. >>;
I did the Ander's romance on my first playthrough and I melted. I love him to pieces, even though I sadfaced a lot because he's so painfully sweet.

On my second playthrough I tried for Fenris. Then I accidentally (on purpose) went for Anders, because I just can't resist that face. D': But then I felt bad for poor Fenris, so I scrapped about three hours of gameplay to go back and redo it. Talking to Anders and ignoring the flirt options after that was horrible, but I managed. Barely.

And now I adore Fenris too, and I have no idea what I'll do on my next playthrough. My confusion over who I like best is starting to manifest itself in Fenris/M!Hawke/Anders drabbles. It's terrible. Maybe I'll just solve the problem by playing my first F!Hawke and romancing Merrill.

The forums have been even more rageyrage than normal lately.

I still haven't romanced Fenris yet. I don't know that I can bring myself to do it. After how he treated my MageHawke... I don't know that I can ever see anything good in anyone who can be that cruel. That's the only thing I could think during our last conversation. I dunno if maybe there was a better dialogue option I could have picked. By then i found Hawke's life to be far too depressing for me to even care

Actually, yeah, in the Fenris romance specifically. Because the first time you spend the night he freaks out and backpeddles, I would have liked for there to be a bit more scandalous content in the make-up conversation... some people say it's implied there was sex afterwards but frankly it could stand to be a little more overt in my book. Granted, my book is a filthy book.

I tried the Anders romance, but did anybody else notice the discrepancy between male and female version romancing him? Later, when Anders is all I TOLD YOU I WOULD BREAK YOU HEART, I was thinking... "uh, no, actually what you told me is that I had your undying love." Turns out, he only says that to a femHawke. When she hits on him, he says something like "No, don't go there, I'll only break your heart" versus the much sweeter romantic dialogue he has with M!Hawke. So, I was a bit blindsided by his switch from, what seemed to me to be ultimate committed love to tormented I'll hurt you but some things matter more than love persona. I kind of wish he had said the same thing to a man, just so we'd have the heads up D: 

In other news, I was pleasantly blind sided by how awesome the f/f rivalmance goes with Merrill. In my first playthrough I was catering to Fenris so I actually hated her as a character, but then when I did my test playthrough to see how many love interests I could sleep with in a single game *cough I'm awful I know cough* I went through her rivalmance and enjoyed it a lot. I'm actually really excited for more playthroughs!

You raise a number of interesting points. In response to your first assertion, I'd like to add "AND HOW!" For your second observation, you can sleep with anyone after Merril or Anders so long as you pick the broken heart option directly after sleeping with them to shatter their fragile egos into tiny little pieces and do a little jig on top of them. The minute you say "move in," however, all other romance flags are deactivated and critical flirt options are removed from the other LI's dialogue. As for your third point, well, I think you know how I feel about you.

Fen's voice....but Anders' angst and importance to the plot...and the heartstrings...they just pull and pull and I can't choose!

Oh, my adoring public! It feels so good to return! It's so funny to look at some of the other threads about romances and read things like "Fenris is so straight" -- my M!Hawke topped the **** out of him :3 I actually think it's really cool that everyone had such different experiences with the same character, even if I thought Fenris was hardcore uke. Actually, ironically, I had no trouble seeing Fenris with Isabela (in case you guys didn't hear, if you hit it and quit it, he has a banter with Isabela in Act 3 where it's unabashedly clear they're banging). But, to me, Lady Hawke's voice acting just wasn't... bold? strong? enough for me to see her capable of the wall-pin and nailing Fenris into the matress. Some people are saying they can believe Fenris tops, but the only other woman he potentially sleeps with is Isabela, who by her own canon admission always tops. Also, M!Hawke is canonically taller (Varric's banter with Fenris that refers to their relationship says "Did he sweep you off your feet? I'm assuming he did the sweeping. He's taller than you. Awkward, otherwise"). ...I forgot where I was going with this. Bunk.

I went in fully expecting to be focused on only Fenris, but then Anders turned out to be so awesome and I was very conflicted in the beginning, but then the wall pinning happened and it was a done deal.

Funny that you mention the Fenris and Isabela thing... In Act 2 Fenris breaks Hawke's heart after they do the dirty and then goes and flirts with Isabela. His life really sucked at that point. T_T

But it was awesome. I loved it.

EDIT: And this was the first game where I could actually create a hawt custom male character. So that just added to the unbelievable hotness of it all.

That last one always made me wonder why I couldn't have Fenris murder-knife-fist Anders after all that stuff went down and he DID break my Hawke's heart. Also, you're totally right about the hot custom M!Hawkes. I played the entire game on casual without armor... walking around shirtless. Even in the most dramatic situations and convos, all I could think is GOD HAWKE IS SO HOT RIGHT NOW. I'D DO ME.

It wasn't an outright, "Let's go bonk now" flirt but it was something along the lines of:

Isabela: *flirt flirt* you ever take your pretty clothes off?
Fenris: *wink wink* It's been known to happen.
Isabela: Nevermind then.

So it didn't lead anywhere, but Hawke was heartbroken and could only go, "WTF?"

I totally need to do that one day. I need to hear heartbroken upset Fenris.

And am I the only one who thinks Fenris is totally obsessed with Hawke by the end of their romance? "Nothing will keep me from you." was the best line ever.

EDIT: And I'm in the same boat with custom Hawke. Fenris was a damn lucky elf to have such a hot piece of man flesh waiting for him at home.

Weird, that shouldn't have happened. You were supposed to get the alternate dialogue:

Fenris: You keep staring at me. Is it my eyes again?
Isabela: You're very lanky for an elf. I like lanky.
Fenris: From what I gather, you like a lot of things.
Isabela: Nonsense. But when I see something I like, I go after it.
Fenris: I suggest keeping your distance.*
Isabela: Now you're just making it challenging. 
(*After romance with Hawke)

Also here are some other ones for good measure:

Isabela: That night, I can't stop thinking about it.
Fenris: Well, then I'll see you later.
Isabela: That was direct.
Fenris: I thought I'd get straight to the point. Were you expecting flowers or something?
Isabela: Don't be absurd.
Fenris: Then I'll see you tonight.

And I didn't realize the ***** in heat dialogue had an alternate ending if you'd already slept with Izzy:

Anders: I can't imagine what Hawke sees in you.
Fenris: It is done. Leave it be.
Anders: Well, good. I always knew she/he had some sense.
Fenris: Do not make light of this. Leaving was the hardest thing I've ever done.
Isabela: Oh, will you two get over yourselves? I did her/him too.

LULZ. And yes, Fenris was totally obsessed with Hawke at the end there. It was amazingly hot. I must have replayed that gatekiss scene like a bajillion times. It makes it difficult for me to play the Anders romance because his gatescene is ho-hum and, I felt, didn't really address the gravity of the stunt he just pulled or Hawke's decision to stick with him even after.

That is weird. The romance continued on in act 3 so it must have just been a bug.

I haven't seen the Anders gate scene, but I have heard people say it's disappointing. Especially considering what he does to Hawke. Ah well, that's what my imagination is for, isn't it? 

I can't stop gushing about the Fenris rivalmance. It was so unbelievably hot and heartbreaking and perfect in the end. Gaider pulled through, but I had no doubts. GUH, and Fenris: "Not all mages are weak. Hawke isn't weak." had my Hawke doing a little happy dance.

And now I want to play it again! No. I must press through with the Anders romance.

And I'm an incoherent mess, my king. I do apologize.

I must ask, does Isabela ever make a comment on the relationship between Hawke and Fenris? I've had everyone commenting but Isabela and Aveline.

Both their commenting happens in cutscenes. I believe Aveline comments during the questline for Ser Donnic, and Isabela is HILARIOUS. Refer to the following youtube vid.

Sadly, I could only find the straight one D: Can't find a vid of the Aveline comment though. I know she does reference it somehow, somewhere.

EDIT: I'm in the same boat with you when it comes to NUUUUUU must experience anders romance but dear god Fenris. I'm pushing through it with a snarky character. It's just so hard....
