The only time picking options I thought were friendly ended up with me in a romance was after Leliana's personal quest. Apparently "I'm here for you if you want to talk about her" = "I'm here for you if you want sex"

That was very annoying. I very much dislike this.
DA2 should get rid of this problem, with the icons.

Something about romancing a ****ty elf seemed much more like it was a fling (friends with benefits) than an actual relationship. Of course this is all my opinion, but I found that my female playthrough had a much more romantic/immersive relationship with Alistair.

Me too. Especially after the character video. I really like the properly heroic side he showed there. That whole "defending the defensless because it's the right thing to do" attitude. It would be nice to have that kind of character playing for our team. 

Of course the Vengeance thing will alter him but we'll have the chance to sway him back to justice so hopefully there will be a way to get nice-guy-Anders back.

Character video? I havn't really been keeping up with Dragon Age 2 news.

Ah, I see.
I don't believe that Fenris or Anders, from what we've seen, appear to be "fling" romances. Especially Fenris, who allegedly doesn't like to be touched.

If you actually complete Zevran's romance, it's pretty clear that it's (much) more than a fling. I actually found Alistair's romance kind of cheesy and boring, honestly.

Ugh. At one point in my "canon" playthrough, she asked my warden if there could ever be anything between us. I said no. Two convos later and she's demanding me to choose between her and Zevran. *scratches head* Maybe it's just because I've dated two creepy stalkers in RL who didn't understand "no," but that bugged me.

OT: I know we still don't know a whole lot about the companions (and me less than most since I'm trying really hard not to spoil myself too badly), I still hope for Anders. He and Nathaniel were my favorite Awakening characters, and despite his penchant for skirt-chasing, I think he'd make a good bi LI. I hated the templars and the chantry, so we have that in common... And a romance between him an MageHawke would be...fiery, quite literally.

That looks suspiciously like logic. You take that out of here right now! 

edit: honestly, my bet is on Fenris for one simple reason: Gaider wrote him, and Gaider has stated in the past that he enjoyed writing same-sex romances.

Actually I thought even the lesbian romance was a lot more immersive than the gay romance. (of which I have done on a female rogue playthrough)



Then Morrigan (probably my second most favorite romance after alistair esp with witch hunt dlc to finish the story)

Zevran actually flirts pretty blatantly, well not blatantly because Alistair doesn't get it...so I guess subtly, with Alistair, and in a joking way with Oghren. Zevran may talk about women more than men; but to someone not romancing him you can still tell he is not completely straight, he's just subtle about it, as opposed to blatant about his flirting with women.

I loved them both albeit for very different reasons. Alistair himself is cheesy (or "goofy", as I prefer). I find goofy to be cute and charming as long as you can be serious when the situation requires. And he was such a soft-touch with the rose, all insecure and everything. I thought it was cute. Zevran was also a goof, but in a completely different way. His character developed some great depth as you got to know him (IMO), which I found quite touching because it really did give the illusion that I was helping him discover a new part of himself and creating a sense of emotional and not just physical intimacy.

Yeah, Leliana was an occasional surprise romance, largely because the reject options seemed so harsh and some of the nicer options were apperantly leading her on.

Im also with the straight anders crowd. Zevran was obvious; he flirted with the male warden and all the other male characters. As for Anders, unless you have a case of wishful thinking, he was obviously straight, the type you would see coming out of a bar with two women at his side. As for zevran, more like a man AND and women at his side.

Indeed, Zevran flirts very much (I romanced him with my main (and male) warden). Anders never did anything like flirting, except a little party-conversation with Velanna (which didn't turn out good, btw^^).

However, what Anders did in Awakening still doesn't mean that he won't be a Bi LI, we can never know... though I hope that bi-romance option will be Fenris (since he's very different from Zevran, it can be very interesting) if Anders can't be one too.
