I really don't care if Fenris is a Zevran 2.0 or not, I'm sure his personality will be very different. I don't really know why people deslike Zevran so much, anyway.
And again, Varric.
It comes down to personality for me. When you dig deep and find the part of Zevran that is falling in love with the Warden, when he stops constantly discussing his female exes (<_< bad form period, but especially when you're only bringing up past females when you're with a man - left me at least with a question of if he might maybe leave my character if someone in a skirt with a heaving bosom caught his eye), yes, he's a good and decent character. It's that surface that you have to dig past. Personality is key for me in any potential relationship, and the surface personality did not encourage me to dig deeper. If I hadn't known going in he was the only romance possibility for my gay character, I would have ignored him. I might even have killed him - he's an assassin hired to kill me. First impressions seem to not be his thing.
That's why I'm hoping that whoever turns out to be the male same sex option is different. If it is Anders, I'd rather he bring up some of his past experiences with men or go into that the howes and whys of why he resisted his feelings in the past, or even that he's afraid that because of Justice/Vengeance, he is responding to Hawke differently than he would have before, and that he is afraid of what would happen if he and Justice were separated, if he'd still feel as he does towards Hawke. And I doubt that Fenris has ever had any relationship with anyone in the past, which I would find interesting, to help him break out of the shell he's built up.
I will be happy with either of them, really, at this point, based on what we know. But you know, I think I'd really like to be able to choose from them. How about it, BioWare? Why not every romance option be bi? That way we all get choices.
