A delicious amount of (emotional) tension at the start of the relationship ... and then at the end rounded off with a touch of sweetness.

But really, any well-written romance with heart would be welcome and appreciated.

Amen to the templar option. Is it too late to add a human male templar that isn't Wesley? Male mage Hawke and said templar would make an interesting pairing marked by several fluctuations of temperament with a side of affection, of course. A male version of Cassandra doesn't sound too bad either. I'm actually disappointed she's not a party member.

How much money is all your money? I'd happily take that bet and your cash.

The problem with this isn't in the writing of that couple in itself (I agree that it was quite good and the build up was awesome).

It's that there also aren't positive representations of s/s romances to go along with it (minus PC initiated romances).

1. Harren and Wade. Julian and Nicolas.
2. Actually, that was the problem. The existence of a same-sex couple where one was an insane, murderous *****. That might not be *your* problems, but that was exactly the complaint I was responding to.

I suppose my problem is I don't believe in happy endings when it comes to love. Anyone who's played in one of my tabletop campaigns would probably wholeheartedly agree with that.

I'm not sure what that says about me.

My only hope in regards to same sex romances is that Isabella won't be the only female romance option, if she is one at all. Makes more sense she would be since she offers to sleep with the warden in the first game.

As far as m/m romances go, Fenris seems like the obvious choice, so I hope it's someone else just for the sake of being different this time.

Romances are optional. You may encounter some dialog with NPCs, party or not party, that could be considered "flirting", but whether you choose to pursue these dialog choices is optional.

That is a major relief. Ninjamances drive me nuts.

I'm just super stoked for m/m romance(s)
in the game! That alone is enough to make my mood much brighter,
letting me craft a character I actually want to play (a gay or bisexual
male).

Me, too! The more character options, the better. Lets you mix it up a little.

Amagoi wrote...

Maybe I'm stretching a little bit here,
but Wade and Herren seemed a positive samesex couple. They compliment
each other very well. It always seemed to me that without Herren keeping
him on track, Wade would probably be a master craftsman with no money
or jobs.

The really awesome part is, it was totally a metaphor for the developer/publisher relationship. So yeah, definitely a functional male/male couple, and representing both Bioware (Wade, the excited creator of beautiful things to hand to you, the audience) and EA (Herren, the reasonable one with the business sense who always tries to dissuade his partner from going overboard because you can't work without money). They chose gay dudes to represent themselves! If that's not open-minded and not a positive attitude towards homosexuality, I don't know what is.

Wade and Herren were adorable. I wanted to hug them like every single second. And I can't imagine them not being a couple, but if it'd been spelled out, I think it would've made the metaphor less clear even to those who were looking for it.

You shouldn't be. Recent snippet David Gaider wrote to demonstrate Fenris's sense of humor, for example:

Varric: ...and then the innkeeper says, "That's a nug? I thought that was my wife!"

Fenris: I see.

Varric: What? They don't have jokes where you come from? And here I thought I was being charming.

Fenris: No, I've just heard it before. My master told it to his guests once, while using me as a footstool.

Varric: I, uh... he did? Really?

Fenris: No, not really.

Carver: Ha! Burn! He got you that time, Varric!

Fenris is stoic, brooding, and manly with a very dry sense of humor. He's not Zevran at all.

I think it says that unhappy endings are easier to make interesting. Betrayal and death provoke stronger emotions than "they lived in a small boring house and cooked a lot until they stopped breathing."

My favorite is the in-between; when the ending for the couple is happy in a sense, but they still don't get a fairy tale sunset. The end of a fairly recent DLC, for instance, or the idea of a couple going down to face their Calling together. That kind of thing. Hell, I would even like the chance to do something like what Alistair can do in one of the endings one day--to snatch away my LI's chance to sacrifice him/herself for me. And I could sure go for a nice Bolivian Army Ending sometime.

I guess tragic endings in fiction make us appreciate the happy ones better in real life. But I'm still not opposed to the occasional truly happy ending as long as it's not the kind with the small boring house and lots of cooking. Not that I am opposed to cooking, just not as the primary source of entertainment.

I admire an interesting happy-ish ending precisely because it isn't easy to do.

I'm going to add my, *is totally stoked for m/m romance option* and add that I'd love to see a romance part ways, just...end, not some death or bloody break up scene, but amicably to semi-amicably part ways, or simply part ways to follow their own interests with the heavy implication that when they cross paths again, things will be the same.

That hardly mean he can't be gay. Of course, if he's all this, I suppose I would like him as a gay LI, even if I prefer Varric. Anyway, who knows, maybe the gay LI is still in the shadows, waiting.

Edit: Now that I think about it. He's a warrior, he's manly and have a dry sense of humor. If I'm not mistaken, people were begging for a LI like this in the old M/M thread, no? Except that they want him human, but they're just racists. Or specists, whatever.

Edit 2: ...Why I wrote straight instead of 'warrior'? Maybe I have magical powers of prophecy!

First off, yeah for s/s romances in DA2, a big thank you to all at Bioware for including this content espicially Mr Gaider and the rest of the writing team :)

I didn't really mind rogues being the only s/s LI's in DA:O but i do have to admit a warrior m/m LI would be good, what can I say, I have a thing for big hairy butch guys!

I'd like to see a developing romance, something that takes a while to get going, a bit of innuendo and flirtation leading to something like "hey i kinda like you, fancy dinner?" And then it really gets going, something a bit intense but not overwhelmingly so. Maybe a bit of tragedy too, everyone loves a bit of tragedy, dont they? ;)

I...had never considered that metaphor before, but it's so apt. And really clever.

I lovedWade and Herren too. I've heard some people say they're too 'stereotypical', but I've known plenty of couples - straight ones included! - who act that way. It's classic bickering old married couple (even if they're not technically married). I'd love to see more NPC couples, gay and straight, who have such great interactions.

I really hope we see those two again!

I'm actually really curious if we will get to see how other cultures and races few same sex pairings. Zev was an elf who seemed eager about the, but then he was raised by ****s and assassins. How do city and wood elves see them, the Qun and the dwarves? I've spoken about the Qun on another thread, but the dwarves in the higher stratas of society I'm sure can do what the like; I don't knw about the commoners or the "official societal view." The wood elves may be more strict because they are few and would need t make more, but that might also create a lack of bonding at all so that mutliple partners have multiple chances to make strong kids and then intimate pairing scould be among anyone (although there was a quest in DA about the man's who's wife was a werewolf and the geeky dude that wanted the huntress, hmmmm). Of them all I would think the city elves the most strict, those living in enslavement and strict codes of conduct that are forced on them would, in my view, tend to do the same among their members- they are judged constantly and therefore will target and judge those who are not the norm.

I just want to chime in with "YES! S/S ROMANCE IS GO!!!" Ahem, I need to go start a "perfect" DA:O campaign so I can import the resulting data into DA2.

Wiki saids Herren is a desire demon so.. does it really count then?

I hope its not going to be another throw back to ME2 like they say; choosing between friendship or sex. Its pretty deprived like that.

That is only a joke in the non canon DLC. Apart from turning into a demon he later uses teleportion and that violates the setting so the whole thing is not part of the lore.
