I'm leaning towards the horrible feeling they've made Anders into the Bi option this time around if only because the last Bi option, Zevran, was also an elf.

Yes, much like Merrill is now the F/F option because Leliana was also a human rogue.
That's totally how they make design decisions, you know.

I did say it's a gut feeling I have didn't I?
I don't know how the Bioware/EA management makes design decisions, for all I know they could roll dice, read tea leaves or just watch which banana the monkey picks.

Or, you know, they wait to see which plastic ball the Manatees pick. :P

Yeah I guess that makes total sense, with your axioms at least.

personally I care more about the story and personality of the LI character(s) more than the race/class thing.

So, if it's an elf or/and rogue different in spirit and background from Leliana or Zevran, I'll be happy. (this is valid for all the companions, anyway)

I can't tell if your suggesting homosexuality is 'unjust' or something. But then none of what you said makes much sense, I don't recall justice specifiying its gender let alone its sexuality, if it possesses such things at all. Personally I don't see it hooking up with Wynne's spirit and having spirit babies and possibly getting spirit STD's.

Yes, the spirits themselves are asexual. Justice is very obvious in the fact that he sees only justice or injustice, and if Justice gets perverted into Vengeance, I'd be willing to wager that Desire demons are perversions of spirits of love, which means that Justice probably has no real concept of love. He didn't even really understand how to interact with Aura, Kristoff's wife.

But the very fact that Anders is possessed offers the possibility that he'll be concerned that Justice is somehow influencing his actions. It may not be true, but it would be an interesting story to tell.

The Mass Effect team removed the gayshep ball and the sequel just went downhill from there.

Obviously. The Manatees refused to pick any more, ahem, balls when the gayshep ball was removed and the writers were forced to use their own imaginations. Thus the priiize was born. :innocent:

He seems to develop some concept of it (enough to recognise it in Kristoff's memories of Aura). Though like you say, he still doesn't understand it. I imagine Vengeance would have less interest in positive mortal emotions than Justice anyway. He'd probably be frustrated by Anders attempts at relationships.

Or the spirit itself would change. Justice makes comments about how fascinating it is to yearn for someone else, when he meets Kristoff's wife. Anders emotions maybe the key to altering his desire for revenge.

Just stating my opinion, if you can get over his tweenage looks by all means romance him if he's even the Bi option (or if you're willing to play a straight femHawke to explore the possibility), unfortunately I'm leaning towards the horrible feeling they've made Anders into the Bi option this time around if only because the last Bi option, Zevran, was also an elf.

If someone says that one more time I'm going to eat my shoe. :P

I know you're not advocating a bi Anders romance so this isn't directed at you, Finis, but for those who are... please give me a better reason than, "Fenris can't possibly be the bi option because Zevran was bi." It's ridiculous.

They're both possible bi options for various reasons. (Thought I should add that) =]

I'm guilty of thinking that way, but I could also see them going with "eh, bipebs (bi pretty elf boys) work, why fix what ain't broke?" To be fair, it's not like the sexy pirate woman was particularly innovative, and I think it'd take some innovation to make Anders into the bi love interest. So yeah, I could really see the trope working for or against Fenris being m/m, but I'm thinking against because of underwhelming fan reaction to Zevran, and BioWare as a company tends to take fan reaction more seriously than most. I guess I think it's more likely they said "let's take a character they already like to make an m/m romance" than "let's do a new bipeb... a BETTER bipeb" even though there's no evidence really to think those things.

As for any other compelling reasons why Anders is the bi love interest... I mean, I guess he is a pretty dangerous psychopathic cannibal, right? And maybe you'd feel safer if you were the one doing the penetrating? Marginally safer? :X No, I give up, I really think it is a coin toss 50/50. I'm just hedging my bets on Anders but would be equally pleased with either option.

a ball huh? Would this be like those magic 8 balls? You ask a question and give it a good shake?

Gaider: Should Fenris or Anders be the bi LI?
*shakes the 8 ball*
8 Ball: Ask again later
Gaider: Crap. ok...Will the bi LI be Anders or Fenris?
*shakes the 8 ball*
8 Ball: Reply hazy, try again
Gaider: Damnit! Will Anders or Fenris be bi?
*shakes violently*
8 Ball: Better not tell you now
Gaider: ******* piece of >_<
*tosses the 8 ball at the wall*
8 Ball: Just make them all bi.

While I like the idea of the devs using a magic 8 ball, the Manatees and the plastic balls are actually a reference to a South Park episode.

That would be interesting to see. If Justice can change, then there's no reason why Vengeance wouldn't.

I imagine it's for the same reason there are men in the F/F thread.

You don't need to be a man to show your support for M/M romances, and you don't need to be a man to offer your assumptions/preferences on who the male bi LI is. You also don't need to be male to play as a male Hawke, just like you don't need to be gay/bi to have a M/M or F/F romance.

Straight actors play gay characters all the time in TV and movies, just like gay actors play straight people. NPH is an awesome example of that. Gamers are the same way. The characters they play don't have to be specific to their gender.

Heck, I know straight men who played DA:O that refuse to romance anyone but Zevran because he was their favorite character.

We are a flexible fanbase. :P

Hey I just read something on the romance thread:

ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

I just noticed this:

After weeks of speculation I just found the following tidbit of information in the PC Player review which might interest you guys.

"... DA2's romantic options are unconstrained. You meet a party member chances are you can bone them (your sibling is on fortunate exception) Male, female, amalgamation of human and spirutal manifestation of justice, all are fair game. ..."

So I take, there is someone for anyone to choose from when picking your love interest.

After reading the review, I can't wait to get my hands on the game. (And no, not just because of the romance options)

Can anyone verify that review? *tries to push hopes down*

And, according to a couple of straight women I know, you don't have to be a gay guy to find two dudes going at it hot..

Edit:
Oh hey look! a topic!
@Ryzaki
veeery interesting. But then they didn't actually say all of those options were open to the same version of Hawke. They might have had multiple people demoing with both male and female hawke.

I actually read about that somewhere, and it's true. Not for all women, but some, the way some men are into lesbians, but not all.

I don't remember the exact specifics, though. :P
