Have we already canceled out the possibility of a new male character being introduced, or is it that looks just won't be that important?

After reading through this and the other thread (it took a long time @_@), I've noticed that there aren't too many comments about what the potential LI should actually look like, as opposed to what his personality should be.[/quote]

Maybe it's because it's more trivial compared.
Although I'd say that the discussion about bisexual male rogues may have something to do with appearance. There have only been two biseuxal male love interests so far - neither being the hulking warrior-type or the mystical mage-type.

I also do find appearance insignificant compared to character, but surely there are certain physical traits that could make an LI even more likeable? c:Collider wrote...

For me, a short black hairstyle and a slightly upturned nose would really do the trick. Bonus points if he has battle scars.
Or maybe I'm getting caught up in what I want my Hawke to look like. @_@

I've noticed that in BioWare games, the 'hardened warrior' is never a love interest. Sagacious Zu, Sten, Canderous. Though I'm not surprised Wrex wasn't considered.
This is surprising as many men and women like someone who's experienced and a bit rough around the edges.

Most of us (for straight and s/s speculation) limit guessing to class and race. I've never found any romancable character to be attractive, because game graphics don't look human enough for me yet.
Besides that, I could go on and on to describe my perfect guy, physically, but that has almost no bearing on whether I'll like him. Don't like blondes, for instance; yet, Alistair is my favorite romance, ever. It's grand to speculate on it though.
Assuming we have eight core companions, we only know for sure about Varric, Aveline, Fenris, and Isabela, with a strong possibility of Bethany/Carver. That's five companions you can have at any one time. There's also the DLC character. We had nine companions in Origins, and that seems like a fair number to have now. We know we're getting (at least) two of every class. That means six--but I'd expect nine (including DLC).Have we already canceled out the possibility of a new male character being introduced, or is it that looks just won't be that important?
So that means I expect (hope?) three more companion annoucements. Two, if Merrill is for real. At least one of those is going to be a guy, I imagine.

You just made me realise what my gaming life has been missing (including Wrex). A chance to romance Canderous would have been GREAT.
As for M/M romance- I'm another person that would love to see a slightly less out there gay or bisexual character. Going by Isabela's brief but, err... intense appearance in DA:O and that one line she has in the Making Of video, it will be her that fills a similar role to what Zev played in the first game*. I play gay males just as often as I play female characters (of all different sexual persuasions) and I do think it's important that there's just as much variety in terms of love interests- even if, of course, there's only one per game. A rougher type would be welcomed, at least by me.
* This is just a guess, of course- I haven't seen anything that points out in black and white that Isabela will be an LI for a LadyHawke- I'm just going by the interest she showed in the first game :>

Isabela displayed interest in women in DA:O so...she'd be a great candidate to say the least.

Off-topic, but it'd still be neat if they surprised us by not having Isabela be a romance at all. Unlikely, but cool.

Well, it's confirmed that she's a romance, so...and we know she at least kisses Hawke. A few times.

I'm not gonna lie. Looks will be important to me. I'm sure someone will call me superficial but I don't care. I didn't romance Zevran because I thought he looked like a one of those bleach blonde tanning-bed-leather-skin "people" (term used loosely) who roam the streets and beaches down here in Florida. Course that was easily solved with a quick mod but my first 3 playthroughs were on consoles so... yeah.
I'm partial to dark hair, bright eyes, and pale or olive skin so... I might be perfectly content just staring at Garrett all day

Hmm.. you mean you don't just take the game graphics as a signifier for what the character would look like ITRW?

Most of the romance options look weird in one way or another if you ask me. For the same reasons as Saibh states. Alistair and Morrigan in particular look a little odd.
Honestly, I liked their looks best out of all the characters in DAO. There's something about Leliana that at first looked off, though I came around, and there's too much... angle to Zevran's face. To me, Morrigan and Alistair looked the most real.
But I've noticed it's usually the personality and voice acting that makes or breaks a character for me, more than appearance.

There's always "Anders."
It just reminds me that when I recently played DAO: Awakening, Nathaniel said
something about how he was in Kirkwall before... I really hope we get him as a companion...
and Anders too… XD
On the s/s topic I really hope we get someone stoic and difficult to approach.
I like challenges^_^.
Fenris looks kind of like that.

I do, but it's pretty abstract. They don't look like real people to me. Imagining in my head they do doesn't change that.

I realize this is the M/M romance thread but someone mentioned non-PC/companion gay couples in DA and then someone complained about Branka/Hespith.
Noooo. That was awesome.
...
The lead up to the Broodmother has got to be some of my favoritewritingstorytelling* in the game. I think it would be a shame if it had some of its teeth pulled because someone might interpret it as being unflattering to lesbians.
*Good writing, music, good animation for Hepith, good environmental design. I actually forgot how much I hated the earlier part of the deep roads.
O. M. G.
Just the thought of a M4M character/story hitting the heights of Hespith gets me giddy with excitement. That had to be some of the best storytelling and voice acting of DA:O. Confusing, creepy and heart breaking. I'd love for the M4M character to stand out for their story more than for being "the gay."

And Leliana as well, probably.
This is why I tend not to care about the love interest's appearance. Most/all of them look weird.
