Of course m/m romance is content that's open for all to enjoy or ignore as it should be. I am kind of interested in whether gay guys prefer Anders or Fenris and whether that demographic differs from the broader group on these boards (who seem to prefer Fenris as the m/m option). I'm happy with either, but as a gay man - would definitely prefer Anders. Fenris is a little too skinny and androgynous for my tastes

Im bi and I prefer Carver

Fenris because, as always, he's very ~*pretty*~ and I don't really see androgyny. I have reservations about his voice, which I expect not to be a big deal (goddamn, did I hate Balthier, though) and tattoos, but whatever. Anders is alright, but he's the kind of guy I could only like from a distance. His sense of humor is charming, but often grating. And his story has taken a turn for the hilariously stupid- this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I expect to LOL at him. Also, I don't like his haircut. Or mage robes.

Neither one is likely to be as terrible as Zevran ("The harlots molested me into bisexuality. DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS."). I don't think he was poorly written, I think was well-written hot mess. Who I would never, ever want to be in a relationship with. The more I played DAO, the more I skipped the relationships (those people are nuts), but I was always tickled that I could get my homosexuality on. I imagine the same will be true here, too.

Aww, while Zev isn't my favourite character, I find him very intriguing. He does make me yearn for a more wholesome/normal/sane bi LI though......... *looks at Fenris and Anders* I'm not going to get that from DA2, am I?

I have been reading this thread as well as a few others for some time now. With minor exceptions, it's refreshing to see so many open minded people, not to mention some absolutely hilarious posts B)
Ok, back on topic... Since LIs were confirmed I've been thinking a lot, trying to decide which I would prefer and how it would compare to Zevran.
About Zevran, maybe I missed it (likely other forum topics), but here anyway I have seen some sort of negative opinions about him (good ones too as well). Imo, while I kinda disliked him, the whole "puss in boots" vibe (or more then just a vibe lol), the whole "abuse-to-bi" explanation, the "I prefer women but you'll do", I eventually came to really like him for character depth, how the romance evolved and eventually for the various little details that put this romance on the same level with the str8 ones (thinking of Wynne commenting on it - including the semi-quote "some of us don't get any sleep at night with you two" >which is not listed on the wiki in dialogue section< and other details I don't remember atm). Now, if that happens in DA 2 too, I'll be happy, overlooking any minor dislike of the bi male npc.
As for the 2 possible choices available atm, without seeing what I mentioned earlier, a good storyline that is, I can't really say... I mean I kinda liked Anders in Awakening, but I definetly got a str8 feel from him and to me that's a turn off (fic is fun, sure, but in game and in character, I have a more close to reality self awareness, which means I'm just not interested in str8 guys... and if I happen to start feeling something I reason myself out of it to avoid geting myself in awkard situations :P ). Now if they say he was actually bi (really hope they avoid the "became bi" thing... it's just ridiculous) that would be kinda "hmmm" for me. Again, if they do what they usually do imo (write amazing characters and stories), I'll probably get over that and do what I did in DA:O (always male pc romancing Zev, and a one time female pc to romance Alistair... haha). Anyway, undecided yet... but at least I hope he'll have funny and snarky going for him like in Awakening :)
Fenris... must admit I would prefer him haha. Shallow huh? lol Only thing I'm not sure about is the voice... don't dislike it, it's just... "eh". Personally I'm not bothered at all by the fact that he is also an elf, since that pales in comparisson with the "good" brought to the mix by the fact that he seems to be a strong character and a warrior (not many examples around... and I think most are also BioWare's haha). If I were to choose, I would go with Fenris as preference, but I think BioWare went with Anders.
As for hopeless hope, lol, I'm gonna go with Fenris being exclusively gay:whistle:

I don't think Fenris is girly. He has girly jrpg hair but if I saw a woman with that face I'd be like O_o I'm not really a fan of how skinny elves are now though, I like muscles.

For the record, when it comes to the men (we know about) of DA2, As Li's I'd prefer them in this order,

Carver (out since they made him our in-game brother)

Varric (out because Bioware apparently wasn't brave enough to go for the Dwarf)

Varric's understudy/ Sebastian (the greatest ****-tease in the game apparently, a walking romance novel you can't romance).

Those are really the only men in DA2, we know about, that I could picture my character having a relationship with, without somehow feeling uneasy.

Now for the two romance possibilities, again strictly my opinion,

Fenris, he might be a great character but for the "romance" I don't think I'll ever be able to get over the fact he looks like the fantasy of a Japanese businessman.

Anders, to be quite honest I found him slightly annoying in Awakenings (where I was busy ogling Nate btw) but they've managed to make him far, far, worse in DA2. Knowing what I know now, I'm very apprehensive of being forced to recruit him into my group let alone romance him.

So my MHawkes must either be celibate or hope for an unknown, possibly npc, m/m LI, or a love golem for sale somewhere.

She is clearly sneaking up on him. A few frames later he notices her and you will see him trying to explain that it is all a misunderstanding, that he only wanted to be friendly and that he isn't into women.

In response with the train of thought going on here, As I previously said - Fenris does nothing for me, most likely for the reasons you state. As someone else said - Anders may not immeadiately make alarms go off - but he certainly is attractive. Personally for me, he would have to loose the silly ponytail, but thats just personal taste :P.

Between Anders and Fenris, I prefer Anders. I guess I never had a thing for elves, plus I liked Anders in Awakening, I'll have to find out more about him in DAII though. But if Fenris is the only bi option, I guess I wouldn't mind finding more about him.

But honestly, out of all the party members so far, Varric would have been my choice. I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to romance a dwarf in any game.

Where has it been confirmed that Sebastian isn't a romance option? He's a full-fledged companion with his own friendship/rivalry, dialogues and personal story arc. Just because he wasn't mentioned in the Romancable Companion announcement thread thingy doesn't guarantee that he's not an option, since he's not in the core game.

See:

Jennifer Brandes Hepler wrote...

Sebastian has full dialogues and a follower approval arc, just like the other party members.

Him being DLC and not being in the core game doesn't set anything in stone either. There's not really a comparable character like him in any Bioware game that dictates that he's definitely off the table as a romance option. Zaeed and Kasumi, the DLC companions from ME2, weren't full companions in the way that Sebastian is said to be. Shale was... well, a golem, and not a romance option because it was in no way logical that she would be.

I can understand why people would think that he's not romancable because he's DLC... but DLC stands for Downloadable Content, and romance is content too. And can you imagine the effect on thousands of fanboys and fangirls who didn't purchase the SE who will dish out those 7 dollars immediately if word hits the street that the sexy, Scottish prince can be mounted?

I'm not saying that he is a romance option, but I'm also not saying that he's not until I get my hands on him. Jennifer Hepler didn't rule out Sebastian as being romancable, and that's good enough for me.

Jennifer Brandes Hepler wrote...

If you want to find out
if Sebastian's a love interest, you'll just have to pick all the flirt
lines and see what happens...

As long as Sebastian as a romance is still on the table, I say that m/m is as well. Positive thoughts, y'all! Go!

I'm treading a fine line between pessimism and optimism in the lead up to the game. No, there's nothing to say he definitely isn't an LI, I'm just stacking my chips in the 'unlikely' box :D

Even if he is an Li, experiment in DLC romance, which I consider to be very unlikely at this juncture, I'm willing to bet he's strictly straight only, which would leave the in game m/m romance to be a preview for "Dr. Phil, the game" in either the light (Fenris) or the ultimate hardcore, diamond platinum edition (Anders).

See, I can imagine Fenris, Anders, and Sebastian as bisexual... But I can kinda understand that people would rather have Anders or Sebastian than Fenris, considering we've already had the bi-elf, and that was Zevran. You can't beat that. Zevran was amazing...

I actually want ALL LI's to be bi. Somehow that would make the most sense in an RPG.

Chalk me up as another gay guy that would prefer Anders... if Sebastian is off the table at least.

I actually never noticed this

(regarding Sebastian as a LI, I would like that, at least to have another option for romance - for both men and women)
