I can't remember it fully, but I believe that was in reference to having sex with them. Not being in a relationship with them... I reckon in that aspect he should be pretty neutral in preference.

For the record, when it comes to the men (we know about) of DA2, As Li's I'd prefer them in this order,
Carver (out since they made him our in-game brother)
Varric (out because Bioware apparently wasn't brave enough to go for the Dwarf)
Varric's understudy/ Sebastian (the greatest ****-tease in the game apparently, a walking romance novel you can't romance).
Those are really the only men in DA2, we know about, that I could picture my character having a relationship with, without somehow feeling uneasy.
Now for the two romance possibilities, again strictly my opinion,
Fenris, he might be a great character but for the "romance" I don't think I'll ever be able to get over the fact he looks like the fantasy of a Japanese businessman.
Anders, to be quite honest I found him slightly annoying in Awakenings (where I was busy ogling Nate btw) but they've managed to make him far, far, worse in DA2. Knowing what I know now, I'm very apprehensive of being forced to recruit him into my group let alone romance him.
So my MHawkes must either be celibate or hope for an unknown, possibly npc, m/m LI, or a love golem for sale somewhere.
I agree with your post. Except the last two, I'd put Anders before Fenris.

Me too. My #1 choice for m/m LI would be Sebastian, but with him being DLC and all, it's pretty unlikely. I prefer Fenris over Anders as well.

You could try looking at it in a different way. The way I always go about these games is to go for the romance that leads to the most interesting story. The best romantic story isn't necessarily with the type of LI you would go for in real life. I never roleplay characters who are just like me, so what kind of guy my character would fall for is most often not the guy I would want for real. In the real world the wholesome, normal LIs have the most appeal but they tend to be boring in video games.Greenishio wrote...
Aww, while Zev isn't my favourite character, I find him very intriguing. He does make me yearn for a more wholesome/normal/sane bi LI though......... *looks at Fenris and Anders* I'm not going to get that from DA2, am I?![]()

De-lurking this thread to say that I agree with this. My favorite type of romantic stories are usually ones where the man has LOTS of baggage, angst, and stoicism. The more reserved he is in the beginning, the better. Throw in heaps of sarcastic comments (on both sides) and I swoon.
Though, in real life? No thank you. I prefer my husband who's sweet, sassy, funny, and loves to cuddle.

Of course m/m romance is content that's open for all to enjoy or ignore as it should be. I am kind of interested in whether gay guys prefer Anders or Fenris and whether that demographic differs from the broader group on these boards (who seem to prefer Fenris as the m/m option). I'm happy with either, but as a gay man - would definitely prefer Anders. Fenris is a little too skinny and androgynous for my tastes
Im bi and I prefer Carver
im gay and sebastian ... or anders. both would work fiiiinnneeee
(looks like im in for heartbreak haha)

I fear they're going to give him a "fiance" or some nonsense to explain why he's not romanceable.
That would be the perfect motivation to help him on his personal quest; to take care of those responsible for the murder of Sebastian's family for being so sloppy to forget taking care of his fiance as well. <_<

In my opinion, it does make it better, because - no matter the fact that he prefers women -, once he falls in love with a male Warden, he forgets about every other person, woman or otherwise.
As for DA2, I would really like Sebastian too, but, if he's unavailable, then Fenris will do

I'm a bi girl and I prefer Sebastian or Fenris...Probably, like most women, my perception of gay love is highly idealized so I don't know what that says about my LI preference. Seb is just so grrrr and default MHawke is also grrrrr so it'd be sorta Clash-of-the-Titans

I dunno. I understand that bisexual people have to deal with all sorts of ugly assumptions about themselves and in ideal world they'd be able to just go on and on about the nuances of their orientation, but I would still consider it poor form to talk about how, on the whole, you'd rather do members of another gender. Not very smooth, Z-Dog. Also, he talks about his druthers. I don't even know what that means,* but it sounds disgusting. And, I mean, this is in addition to whole "forced open-mindedness" nonsense. "Zevran! You're making me feel like I'm exploiting a victim of child abuse when I get with you. Why you gotta be like this?"
*I know what it means, God.

I maintain that you should never, ever, tell your significant other that you enjoy sex with other people more. It's just not cool.

For me to get into Fenris as a serious romance possibility he'd need a serious makeover of not only his face but also his general body frame/shape.
I too was slight dissapointed by Zev's whole I prefer teh boobies thing in DA:O but at least he looked decent by default (and smokin hot with the right mods). I just wish the companions in DA:O had their own unique armors/outfits/looks, thight leather outfits for Zevran, why he'd have been the male Miranda.

I'm not bi or gay so I can never know what it's like, yet, if Zev in-game said he prefered males to my female character, I'd be soooo fired up to seduce the crap out of him. I don't know if that's wrong of me or not, but knowing someone prefers a certain gender opposite of yours but is open to exploring things with you is ten shades of hot.
Edit: Maybe it's because I'm so used to men wanting women that when a man doesn't want a woman necessarily(but is open to it) it's like "oooh.... challenge! Hawt!". Now, thinking about the other way around...... I can see how the situation would be disheartening if you were used to the objects of your affections not caring for your gender relationship-wise....

Agreed. He's a bit pretty yes, but I'd never mistake him for a woman. Much like Aveline is clearly female despite being a handsome lady.

No, I'm British. And I like my men manly (by the western definition, if there is such a thing, which there isn't, because it's subjective, but there ya go ...). I'm not into yaoi.
For me, slender is not the same as feminine. The only aesthetic thing I'd change about him is his hair (which, I personally suspect is where a lot of the comparison to popular yaoi figures is coming from). I can certainly understand why some think he looks feminine. It's just that I don't.

A relationship is a whole different story though. You don't have to be gay or bi to know what it's like on a basic level. Just imagine your boyfriend telling you he'd rather be having sex with someone else. It would suck.
Now imagine he told you he would rather have sex with anyone else who happens to have some feature you don't have and that sex with you will never be as good as it would with them.
That's what it's like.
