ive played through divinity 2 and i didnt think it was very hard at all -__- with that said i also didnt think it was all that great of a game, mediocre at best. i will however agree with some of the earlier posts in saying that jade empire/kotor 1&2/ and ME1&2 are great plays and should be a must play on any rpg lovers list. i personally fell in love with (not sure if its been mentioned already in this post or not but) fallout 3, ive played that game over so many times and every time i discover something new. however if thats not really ur style i also enjoyed "the last remnant", now before you begin to pummel me with hate mail hear me out. it has that cheap FF knock off feeling to it but i felt that it delivered a interesting combat system (it was really the only thing that got me 2 finish the game to be honest) along with a more classic turn based rpg feeling.

I was going to suggest the NWN series, before I noticed you were on the 360. Oops. >.< There isn't a big pool of party-based RPGs on consoles, unfortunately.

Well... that's just sad. I'm re-playing DAO for the third time and looks like there's nothing else for me of the same high quality.

I like Knight of the Old Republic, although it is an old game, and simple, but it is great.

Simple attribute allocation, simple feat progression, little micro management, no must be tank/dps/nuker/healer mechanism (every Jedi can heal and every Jedi can kick ass)

The thing to critic about KotOR are

1. graphic- but i don't mind much because it is an old game
2. visual- every Jedi use the same type of ugly lightsaber, and Jedi robes are not cool (mod fix this)
3. animation- Jedi have to take one move to activate Force power, the animation is not cool and fighting animation is somewhat funny (Power Strike)
4. end game balancing- Darth Malak is too powerful as the big boss i must face alone, must using those steroids rather than the Force itself
5. something lacking - there is destroy droid Force power, but there is not much enemy droid in the game, and those existing droid can be destroyed not using Force power at all

Everything else, i can say KotOR is the best game i play...and oh Carth...i love you....

EDIT: Sorry, for some reason I assumed you were PC gamer Lemoness. Just saw that you have the PS3, and NWN2 + SW: KotOR aren't on that.

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer lately, and I think it's a good alternative to Dragon Age: Origins. It's setting and plot are different, but the characters are well written. There's a similar mix of combat and dialog to Dragon Age: Origins. And the story is imo quite good. It's not a save the world ordeal though(from what I've played so far anyways, and I just got to Act 2), more personal. It's pretty serious, although there doesn't seem to be any humor to lighten things up, unlike DA:O. And while you can create many different characters, there's no intro origin. It may not be your thing.

If you do consider it though, it is a continuation of Neverwinter Nights 2, so you'll want to read up on the story and events before playing. You could play it, but I really don't recommend that. NWN2 is bad and long. And noticeably unfinished. Just read up on the events and jump right into Mask of the Betrayer.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a good bet too, if you're into playing a space fantasy.

Seeing as all the famous games have been stated :)
There's this game called torchlight, from the gameplay i read on wikipedia it seems kinda similar to a simplified version of dragon age or something, you might wanna try that out.

For me, honestly saying... every other game was much more of the dissappointment when compared to the DRAGON AGE & DRAGON AGE ORIGINS

But looking at the technology advancements, we can sure hope to find other games which might impress up like this game.

Hopefully Waiting Till Then...

I feel your pain. DA:O and DA:2 kind of ruined other games for me, and more often than not I have been disappointed. I will say that I absolutely loved KOTOR though. The story and characters were what did it for me - when I first started playing I was kind of like...what is this? But then I got completely sucked in and couldn't pull myself away. I have been trying to get into NWN2 but I am having some difficulties...the fight scenes drive me nuts and it all feels a bit Disney. I'm hoping if I just keep playing it will get better. I am dying to play ME but I play on an iMac so I need to go out and get a PC first.

Torchlight is basically a Diablo clone.  A pretty good one), but not much like Dragon Age, at all.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'll be trying out some of the PC games mentioned (NWN + drakensang).

I played DA:O first.... so that set the bar ridiculously high for me. Then I played Mass Effect 1, and although I don't usually like outer space settings, and it took me a while to get into it, by about half way through I did "care" and I throughly enjoyed the last third of the game. I somehow completely missed the romances in ME1, probably because the party member interactions seemed unnatural to me. There's something about that dialogue wheel that makes all conversations my character has feel fake. And the pre-defined Shepard character was hard to adjust to when I started.  But there was a charm about ME1 that reminded me of DA:O, so I'd probably put it as my second favorite.

Then I got DA2... it is a good game... but I just couldn't get that interested in the characters. Even by the end, I just didn't really care all that much. It felt like one big "aside" to me. The only character that sort of kept my interest was Merrill (most likely due to the superb voice actress who gave her a personality). While playing DA2, I decided to buy Fable TLC, and it was fun. I actually found myself wanting to play Fable TLC more than DA2 while I was going through both of them at the same time. Not sure why. Now I'm starting Fable 2, and will probably get Skyrim (although I know it's really nothing like DA:O). But it will be interesting to try a more open world type rpg to see if I like that.

I started Baldur's Gate 1 and am about half way through it. It's a little hard to get past the graphics, but after playing it for a while I start to forget what it looks like and get into the story and combat strategies.

I hope something comes out in the future that can compete with DA:O. If someone could merge the old style story driven, crpg gameplay, a main character you can really make your own (no pre-defined personality), etc. with cutting edge graphics and great npc voice acting that would be perfect. But then I guess that is what DA:O did, which is why I loved it so much. I'm surprised more people (young and old) don't favor this genre. It's a great equation for making a fully immersive game that you don't find anywhere else.

I tried Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning recently. Its a great game with beautiful environments, amazing combat, alright story, and god-awful side-quests. DA:O was definitely much better than Reckoning, but it is still a good game to kill time until something better comes along.

I agree with the opinions that DAO ruined other games for me. Every game I have played sense then has had the feeling of "It's good, but no where near DAO." However a updated version of Baldurs Gate is being made. I found this out a month after buying the entire BG series and Planescape torment and The Icewind dale series. I also found out that my computer is unable to play those games and crashes whenever I save. On the bright side I only paid $48. I also second the suggestions on Kotor 2 (I havn't played 1, long story) if you are okay with Science Fantasy, glitches and a non-ending. It had similar to ME3 level hatred becauses of that last point. Lotr War in the North is enjoyable with a friend, but is nowhere near DAO. I don't have a 360, so I don't know any exclusives for it, but don't buy Skrim. If you disliked Oblivion you will hate Skyrim. Terrable story, boring characters, and a combat system so flawed that killing a Dragon is a chore and doesn't feel epic at all. My friend played on my file, barely knew the controls, and killed a blood dragon and said it was funny, because the dragon landed on houses and he had a sword and sheild, but it was dissapointing for it to sudenly fall over from random sword swings. On a note for future games the upcoming Game of Thrones RPG is being described as a DA clone, something I feel this world needs more of, and I think similar things are said of Dragon's Dogma(Maybe, probably double check that one).
Edit: forgot to mentian, if you like good characters and a compeling story, avoid Mass Effect 2 like the plague. I got it for free because of a promotion Bioware had last year for DA2 and I hated it. Jack is my most hated character of all time, and I never cared about most of the crew and the story was "The collecters are a threat, go and kill 500 mercenaries and then you can kill two dozen collecters." I don't know about ME or ME3 because ME2 killed all interest in the series for me.

Torchlight is fun and its pretty, but it's simple hack & slash.
Mass Effect series is good. The first game can be a struggle in the beginning. I ended up playing Mass Effect 2 first and liked it so much that I went back to play ME 1. The third game is excellent but the finale can be....jarring.
Oblivion and Skyrim are rather "lonely." (I don't know how else to put it). But they are fun for the gameplay. Playing a stealth archer in Skyrim is one of the most satisfying characters I have ever played.
Jade Empire is okay and there's some companion interaction in it.
Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic is good for a playthrough or two. It's a little old fashioned it its gameplay, but the story is good.

The Lord of The Rings: War in The North. The game has a dialogue system, abilities, brutal combat and a similar dark gritty feel in artstyle. You also have companions. The story and characters are pretty decent too but you play three preset characters who have different dialogue with characters and unique abilities which makes playing through three times worthwhile. There's actually a lot of dialogue in the game. Visit Rivendell and previous hubs are completing chapters to speak to characters as they normally have a lot to say. I remember going through 1 whole hour of dialogue once after a mission. Apart from that, the game is pretty much hack and slash loot RPG but adds a refreshing feel to the formula.

Dark Souls is another game I would recommend if you're looking for a game with a classical traditional RPG feel. Consequences last for the rest of the playthrough and some characters have multiple endings based on your actions. The combat is amazing and the customization is top-notch and statistics really matter. Enemies are grotesque and the world can be explored freely and it is pretty much everything you could expect from a dark fantasy universe.

The Witcher 2 comes out this April for Xbox 360 and has the choices and consequences stuff along with a mature story-line but you're playing a preset character and there isn't as much customization class-wise that you'd expect to find in a game like Origins. The game has a dialogue system.

A Game of Thrones come out in May and the combat looks similar to DA:O combat and there are classes to choose as well but you play as two preset characters. There are supposed to be choices and consequences too and a dialogue system. I'd be wary of this one though as previous games made by the company making this game haven't been very good.

Dragon's Dogma comes out this May and looks set - IMO - to be this year's GOTY. You have a party of companions and must work with them to defeat foes. Companions can hold enemies for you to strike and perform all sorts of other tasks. The customization is amazing and things like your weight and height change how combat is played. There are supposed to be choices with consequences and the characters seem to have real depth to them. You can also create and customize your main companion who will adventure with you for the rest of the game and you can create a human, elf or dwarf character from the amazing character creator which looks like one of the most amazing CC's to date. There are nine classes to choose from and the game is open world.

There is Warhammer: Battle March (the Xbox 360 version comes with the expansion) which is an RTS but with good RPG elements. Once you get a hang of the controls, you'll find that the game is amazing. The artstyle is gritty and realistic and the characters and story is pretty good. In the campaigns, you take control of heroes while controlling armies. The heroes have various abilities and can be customized and leveled up at towns and camps along with troops. In the chaos campaign, you even have an important role playing choice to make which changes the hero of that campaign and his abilities. The orc campaign also leaves you to make a choice at the end which changes the ending. There are also side quests.

kingdoms of amalur reckoning

(I'm a PC gamer).

Tried it and it's boring i also believe there's 'Two Worlds' on xbox, this game aint that bad but nothing comes close to DA:O (DA2 doesn't even come close to DAO either except for the same name and some appearances).

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning is rather boring, sometimes you can get a 'companion/follower' that you can assist for a quest but all the quests/story things are just lacking, i wasn't doing the quests because i wanted to but because i had to else the story wouldn't go on, unlike DAO where you get an 'urge' to fix the wrong in KoAR i was wondering why i should bother?!

The thing is that in the DA-Series you walk around with a team and have choices to make a team/interact with the team. There's hardly any other game around except Spellforce 1/2 that allows you to have a team. Spellforce isn't available on Xbox.

Skyrim was ok once i got the girl follower but still i was missing the interaction except for using her as a pack mule.(and hated the friendly fire). But still this game somehow kept my attention the story was fun, exploring the world was quite ok, and some choices actually mattered.

DAO set the standards, the only games that come close is Mass Effect1/2/3. And maybe in the future DA3 (if the decide to keep to the awesome DA:O setup.) Having companions that talk to you, help you/you help them etc adds to the whole setting/story, imagine everyone just being there for no reason and you wouldn't be able to interact with your companions it would break DAO even though the story is good.

Games worth trying on Xbox360:

Skyrim
Two Worlds (Two worlds 2 has been released also i just found out).

And you could try that Kingdom of Alamur Reckoning i think i saw that for 5 euro's in the discount corner a few weeks ago.

But that said, most games will dissapoint if you compare them to DAO.

I strongly suggest playing Neverwinter Nights if you really enjoyed Dragon Age. I see that that has already been said but I must reemphasize it! The game is amazing and I played it for several years. It's really one of those games that never gets old because of the large community of players that create their own modules for the game. Otherwise, I'd also say Knights of the Old Republic. Kotor also has many mods for download that can add so many goodies to your game! Last but not least Mass Effect is simply amazing. However,It sounds like you would most likely prefer the first Mass Effect game over 2 and 3. They are both amazing in their own right as well though!

Drakensang is a party based RPG. If you can track a copy of River of Time down (another game set in that universe) it has full VO/a good plot/competent combat (DA style but different) and great companions.

The Dark Eye: Drakensang, The Dark Eye: The River of Time, Neverwinter Nights 2, Mask of The Betrayer (For NWN2) and Mysteries of Westgate (For NWN2) are great fun, though NWN2 is quite old.

Oh god this is such an easy question. Combat wise and storywise Dragon Age is fairly unique. But look at a lot of the Western RPGs like Kingdoms of Amalur (is a must play) Divinity II, The Witcher (fantastic game) Risen, Two Worlds II, Skyrim. You can't make female character in a few of those games. But they are ALL PC fantasy RPGs. I have played them all.

And really play Mass Effect!! It's my favorite Bioware game. Personally Fallout 3 is also one of my favorites it may take time getting used to but I played that game for over 300 hours with mods.

You said only Xbox 360 so I didn't bother listing Neverwinter Nights or other games like that.

Take a look at this List as well as some of the other games there. I have played almost all of those games.
