why no love for assault rifles? yeah, pistols outclass them on a "proper" Shep, but on squadmates, as far as I can recall, they rock. (and by that I mean they are the least horrible weapons for them - squadmates can't shoot for ****)
I even had Liara use one instead of pistols. (because she can't get Master MM)

Put Explosive Materials and Sledgehammer rounds into your squadmate's weapons and then just hang out until the room is cleared... shouldn't take long. It's like they're carrying little Thanix Cannons in their hands.

Unless you've already done a playthrough, you won't be able to pick shotgun as a bonus talent. What you could do is create a class that has shotgun as a base talent (soldier or vanguard), and as soon as you land on Eden Prime make a save. Then play through Eden Prime, reload the beginning save, and do it again, repeat until the shotgun achievement pops. It takes 150 kills and is cumulative over multiple play throughs.
