Is there a way of making trees block the line of sight? It would look good in my mod.

Technically, no. You can set the tree(s) to not fade so they're guaranteed to block player view. There's a check box on the the trees, defaulted to true, so just uncheck that.

Now, if you're talking about making it so trees block player spells/ranged attacks, then you'd have to put a placeable in their way.

Probably best to go the placeable route. The game does load a hardcoded mesh up for trees, but it is never tested for collision purposes.

How do you make a tree placeable?

You don't. You have to use some other kind of placeable. The Collision blocks, appropriately re-sized, might the best choice for you. You can switch on the c2/c3 collision data from the toolbar to see exactly how the line of sight (and movement) would be blocked.

I think blocking LOS will also block the camera's movement in game, so you might want to keep the tree-blocks fairly short.

So far turning off fadability seems to be doing what I want. Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, the LOS actual is not blocked, but if players can't see to shoot, maybe they won't get the bright idea of cycling through targets behind what they can see. Visual cues are pretty strong and the game's immediacy in combat makes that sort of thinking somewhat rare.

You could make a tree placeable, but I honestly don't think you'd really want to, unless your focus is planning on becoming a modeler and not a module maker. It's really hard to have time to do both. And if you do go that route (path of the modeler) please, by all means, we'll all encourage you to do so. :D
