The only problem I had with Sentinel was right at the beginning, not having the cooldown reductions and the shotgun meant I was having to wait ages for Tech Armour to cooldown and cause of this I was having to stay in cover a lot and not get to cast other powers.

There seems to be a common misconception... You DON'T have to have Tech Armor up all the time. What's the point of sitting behind cover and refreshing TA again and again just because some enemy got lucky with a few shots at you and blown it off? If you decided to stay in that cover to cast some powers, then just cast them. You really won't drop that much faster with 300 shields instead of 600, neither will 15% damage bonus matter much.

This is only at the beginning of the game such as Mordin's or Archangel's recruitment missions, where I've tried close range kills with the Shruiken which lacks the power and accuracy to kill an enemy and by then I'm re-activating TA and being punished by the initially long cooldown so when it breaks again I have to find cover. A learning curve I had to get used to playing as Sentinel.

Later on the Sentinel IMO feels like the most powerful class in the game whilst playing Insanity and honestly only died once or twice throughout the playthrough.

Damn I have a reading failure. I did not know Sentinel resets a Squaddie's cooldown time.

You're not alone.  The first I heard of it was yesterday, and this is after completing 2 Sentinel playthroughs, just like other posters have said.

ive noticed a LOT of hate/apathy towards the sentinel in the strategy forum... I have to ask myself "why"?

Why WOULDNT you want insta-cooldowns on your squadmates?
Why WOULDNT you want to be able to deal effectively with ANY defense
Why WOULDNT you want to, by extension be able to comfortably choose any squadmate due to lack of weaknesses?

I'm actually rather shocked...
The class is by FAR my favorite.

Can somebody throw me a bone?

I haven't noticed any of the hate you're talking about... apathy, maybe, but as far as that goes, it's only because there isn't much to say... the sentinel is just plain good. The only *hard* part about playing a sentinel is when you're still maxing out your tech armor and passive, and maybe while just running 3 weapons... after that you can do whatever you want and still pwn anything you see.

I don't know then, doesn't that kind of push the Sentinel into Broken territory?

You might want to add an "even further" somewhere in there.  I don't think the Sentinel is all that broken for people who are new to the game or content to sit back and throw powers around.  Close combat Sentinels are another matter entirely.

Sentinel is beastly, only have 1 sentinel playthrough though. I'd go as far to say it's the best class in ME2, depending on your style.

People like guns dont get between people and there guns.

Also have you tried a new char sentinel or even a import for ME1 on hardcore or higher its to much like hard work.

Only have a choice of 4 guns (6 if you have a load of DLC) its so sad would be happy if i could take the other guns even if i had to fire without crosshairs.

Once your like level 20 and have a load of heavy wepons to pick from and loads of points to power the skills its fine but before that the class is very hard to play.

So... a Sentinel with Tali and Legion and all Tech Upgrades can have a fully replenished double strength shield with enemy knockdown every 6 seconds, AND a new Drone every 3 seconds?

Looks like it

Never knew nor used this 'trick' - but it sounds interesting enough to see how massively OPed Shep & Co will be :)

works for 4 massive overload blasts in succession so I assume it works for other power too :P

I use overload, Tali uses ED, Garrus uses overload, I use tech armor, and tali and garrus use their own again. 5 near in succession blasts to shields.

That's sick... Even less incentive to play a Sentinel again, at least for me. :/

I dislike the Sentinel class because it bores me to tears. Tech Armor is the best power in the game. It removes all thought or strategy from the game, and I like to think.

Adept is my most played class, with engineer second. If I'm going pure caster then the sentinel feels like a gimped version of either. If I'm just using a shotgun and assault armor then the sentinel feels like a gimped vanguard. Being a gimped adept/engy and a gimped vanguard all at once is fun though, if you actually make use of all your abilities and don't just spam assault armor.

Stunning a group with your armor, using squad/shotgun up close to bring down defenses, then flinging people around with area throw or freezing them with rank 1 cryo-blast can be a lot of fun.
