I think one of the devs said no Fade portion in DA2. Which I'm really hoping is true.

I want to know the person who designed mage asunder =_= you got 1 mage doing damage to you and another doing crowd control and debuffs and those dam mages are trigger happy with their fireballs. The fact that you are by yourself makes it worse!

The level of consistency with which I die in that area on every playthrough is amazing.

As for the Blackmarsh Undying Fade section, it's nice that you actually get to make a choice in there (Justice vs The Baroness), as well as watching other people trapped in the Fade.

But I still like the Fade from Origins. B)

Mage Asunder is much easier if done in burning man form, where you can laugh at the mages' little fireballs.

Blackmarsh is my favorite quest in Awakening. The Fade portion still has eye-strain issues, but it's short and you're not by yourself.

Yeah I figured it out cause I died to the mage instructers like 5 times. On my last playthrough I just hate when they use misdirection hex since I am a two handed warrior.

When I started playing ironman games, every character that got to the Fade died there. A couple were losses to careless play, but the Arcane Horror with Crushing Prison and that Darkspawn Emissary with Curse of Mortality caused the others. I thought DA wasn't supposed to have save-or-dies.

I guess I'm another one of those who liked the Fade the first time, but finds it boring now. Definitely looking up Skip the Fade for future games.

Seconding this.  And if you're on a PC you can switch to overhead view, line up a fireball on them, and kill a good chunk of the group before they even know you're there.

It's funny, but my two favorite parts of Awakening are the Fade and the Deep Roads.  My two least favorite parts of Origins? The Fade and the Deep Roads.
It really does seem like Bioware listened to what people had to say about those areas, since almost everything bad I could say about them in Origins had been changed for the better Awakening.

Lupus - That's about all they did right in Awakening, aside from the initial bit with Vigil's Keep. The rest was kind of meh.

Well, they also included Anders. I'm not about to complain about that. Other than the lack of dialogue and conversation. and the absence of a proper romance. OK, well, I guess I am complaining... ;)

Really the whole game can seem like a slogfest if you focus on the negatives. I really don't like the Nature of the Beast questline (not overly fond of the Dragon Age version of elves, dwarves on the other hand), but I get through it by looking at the positives. For the Fade portion, the experience is designed to challenge your tactical thinking by making you temporarily a one man army. For this reason, you have to shift gears to function on your own, and this part of the game separates good builds from bad ones. Also, the Fade levels are based off of the nightmares of individuals trapped by the sloth demon, and its cool to see some of the things those people have nightmares about. Crazed mages, golems, flaming templars, darkspawn etc. Yeah its exactly the same everytime, but you can challenge yourself by trying to use the shapeshifting as little as possible, or see how creatively you can use the forms. Try using all four forms frequently, as well as your normal form. These kinds of things help you breathe new life into levels that have grown stale.

For the record, I feel that using a mod to skip an otherwise mandatory part of the game is a cheap cop-out. If you like the game enough to play it, play all of it.

The fade used to annoy me, but after getting used to it and doing so many playthroughs Ive noticed that when I start a new character I'm actually looking forward to it mainly for the extra stats to help fill out my build. I usually just try to burn through it, and when you come out the other side you've gained a bunch of bonus skill points and a level or two and you're character is finally starting to fill out.

Hehe, I liked Anders, Nate and Justice. Sigrun was interesting, except it seemed like her personality kept flipflopping.

And its given more fodder for writing, even if I may go kind of off track...

I didnt seem to hate awakening as much as many people do, i thought almost all of the characters were interesting (although I found oghren interesting in dao, not really in daa)

areas like the fade and the deep roads were massive improvements, ok the conversation system wasnt really a succes, but yeah i can see the idea they had in mind.

the major problem i had with awakening was the uncountable amount of bugs and glitches, to be honest, id rather have it delayed instead just to fix many of the bugs. Velannas and sigruns personal quests were the most annoying ones imo, because it made me not being able to finish the game entirely. Also I was convinced that many people hated velanna not so much for her character, but of the massive amounts of bugs just personally with her.

OT (i know im going offtopic in my own thread..)

wizardryforever I dont agree with you, i mean if these opinions wouldnt be given, then the developers would have no idea there was something wrong with them and i am not one for just ignoring the problem.

Maybe part of the problem was that i thought the combat system was rather flawed and combat was for me just filling time between conversations and cutscenes. And the lack of any choices or party made it just a long boring part.

And yes, mages asunder... i still have nightmares from that part....

Grasp - I don't really hate Awakening so much as disappointed in it. There was some really great story potential there, but it was marred by the awful bugs and glitches, not to mention that the whole thing seemed really rushed. Even for an expansion.

As for not using Skip the Fade, well, no one is saying that you have to use it. But for those of us who played through that section numerous times and got sick of it, that mod was a godsend.

Okay... see, while I like the Fade and never use that mod, I'm not one to tell other people how to play their game. If they want to use it it's their business, not mine (or yours).

Well the thing about opinions is that they are exactly that, opinions.  In my opinion the Fade part was not enough to make me stop playing the game, or limit the number of replays.  In your opinion it was.  Who should the devs believe?  Whose opinion is "right?"  No one's, and really the devs shouldn't try to please everyone, as that leads to unpleasable fanbase moments.

I felt that the combat system was kind of a hybrid between the tactical games of the past (Baldur's Gate) and the hack and slashes of the present (WoW).  It may have been an attempt to do both and try to bring in both groups of fans.  It wasn't really flawed per se, (IMO) but it could have been better.

Okay... see, while I like the Fade and never use that mod, I'm not one

Of course it is.  I was just giving my opinion, nowhere did I say that these people didn't have the right to use mods that fundamentally alter the game.  All I said was that I found the very idea to be a cop-out.  Why would these people alter their playstyle because of me?  I'm just some guy on the forums.  My opinion probably means squat to them.
