Does any other game of its type even COMPARE to Dragon Age: Origins?

Thank you!
I have played all except the Fallout series.
But, they don't quite match, do they?
Well, Oblivion might.

Depends what you mean by "Match".

If you mean Swords and magic then no, they don't match.

Some old school Jrpg are decent, Tales of Phantasia for the super nintendo is fun lots of funny mature dialogue in it as well.

Anything Black Isles published or made is pretty neat and worth checking out: the original Fallout and Baldurs Gate 1,2 being noteworthy as well as Placescape which is a really really good game. completely forgot about it lol.

Right? Well, this is all helpful to me. I didn't realize there were so many out there.

TheGreatSki, i did mean that.

But not all games have to match in everyway. Just the main point.

Like they made Mass Effect..almost the same, but comepletely different. I remember Tales of Phantasia!!

The reason there is so hard to find more games with the same feeling as Dragon Age is due to Dragon Age's three strengths;

1.classic fantasy setting. They have enough twists to keep it fresh-ish (Darkspawn instead of Orcs and lyrium for example) but still close enough to home to be familiar enough for most people.

2. The scope. The games length and the magnitude of everything makes it get an epic feel.

3. The polish. While the game doesn't have the best combat I've experience, or the best levelling system or the best story everything is really well done. Most games have a few things that are great, a few mediocre and one or two that are outright bad. Dragon Age consist of almost exclusively of great parts which makes the game feel really polished. Strength of synergy.

The last game I've played that managed to pull all those points off was the Baldur's Gate series. As mentioned before there are still other games that are great, but not quite the same. They can have better combat or better story, but there are usually some other area of the game that is faulty instead.

My 2c.

Tunnels of Doom and all of the Gold Box games. Some of the ES series except "Buggerfall". The Fables weren't bad and I even liked Two Worlds even though many did not. Adjusting for technological changes I would have to say that the first four Goldbox Forgotten Realms series were the pinnacle of the class. Sadly, the last Gold Box titles were on-line with time charges and that killed the series completely.

My favorite recent title is Morrowind even though it followed "Buggerfall" [which had to be the buggiest title to ever reach distribution]. Oblivion is prettier but I think Morrowind was the better game.

DA is great and compares well with Oblivion and the Fables but still is not as good as it could be. Perhaps the series will improve with time.

Ahhh, yes...Baldur's gate. Loved them. I played them until i fell asleep in front of the tv. Back when i had a ps2. I miss it! :( I wanna get another. And yes, now i am remembering Never winter nights 1

If you only played the ps2 Baulders Gates (which were gauntlet style, action games ), you need to play the pc versions, especially if you like DA.

I started playing recently for the first time, and it's incredible !

There's some great stuff out there like BGT & the big world project which allow you to play Baldur's Gate, Tales of the Sword Coast, and Shadows of Amn as one game, with the more modern engine of BG2, plus the added functionality of ToB expansion.

I'm sure someone could explain it better than me though.

Well I can only think of Mass Effect!

To be honest Bioware is leading the game industry in my opinion. I love all their games and they put so much effort in it totally worth it to buy original games and also get the DLC for it all.

<3

There are really no other game developers besides Bioware with such impressive games.

I highly recommend NWN 2. Reminds me alot of Dragon Age. Grafix are dated, and control scheme takes some getting use to, but very deep and engaging. In some aspects, better than Dragon Age Image IPB.  Keep in mind though, it follows the 3.5 D&D rule set.

NWN1 has a bigger community and alot more player created content than 2. Look at the module list sorted by prime materal plane... http://social.biowar...5/index/3122447

So you might want to chk that out. Especially if you want to party up with ppl, and get into the mp aspect of d&d video gaming. That's where i'll be heading soon.

Comparative in the sense they provide a similar deep rpg experience:

Older games: Neverwinter Nights, Elder Scroll games, both Knights of the Old Republic

Less main stream were Gothic 1 and 2 (series went bad after that) and Arcanum.

Fallout and Mass Effect series are superior to Dragon Age in my opinion but not by much. Witcher 2 looks promising for the future.

I have yet to come across a game like Dragon Age. Ever. I am begining to think that they don't exist. I was so blown away by everything in this game! The battle style, the dialogue, the character relationships, the characters personality, and yes..the best part...THE CUTSCENES! And let us not forget the other best part...THE HUMOR. I loved playing this game so much that I haven't put it down since it came out. Like 2 years ago! Am i alone out there in this? I need someone to also let me know if there are games just like this one out there, because i don't believe you :P

Incase you haven't played it try Knights of the Old Republic its quite old now (2004) but its one of the best RP'G's I've ever played and is obviously a Bioware game with all the quality you'd expect the story tops the story of Star Wars Episode 1 -3 so extremely its not even funny.

Lucas should of made a film of it instead  of all these garbage spin offs :P.

The graphics have aged rather well and aside from a few  annoying things about the lip snycing its an excellent game and extremely enjoyable with great writing and story. Only comes to about 30 - 40 hours maybe 50 at a stretch if you try and do everything on a high difficulty.

Hope that helps.

Gameplay wise, Dungeon Siege 2 (with expansion) is very similar. You wont have great companion stories or the same level of humor, but there is bantering among the party members. The story wont be good, but neither was Dragon Age:Origin's.
