I think no one in this thread mentioned EDI "feeling one with the ship" and such. Seems to me like a convenient way to get away with making a new one rationalize appearance of SR3 (and you even get SR2 as an ally!).

Refit. Blowing up ship again would be lame.

Who sez a ship has to be destroyed for the captain (and crew) to transfer? Officers get new commands with time.

Not only would blowing up the ship again be lame, it'd be too Star Trek-ish.  The Enterprise was destroyed how many times since the first movie? <_<

Shepard won't need to put everyone on the Normandy. It's not a Japanese train. Shepard will probably start with all the NPCs from the first game, then one by one they'll get left behind as you recruit their different races. In the end, it will just be Shepard and Stinky, a friend he makes from toilet paper, piloting the Normandy back to earth to fight the Reapers.

As Joker would still be aboard too I'm guessing he would get very very worried if Shepard started talking to toilet paper, especially if he did get said toilet paper to pilot the normandy, since that would entail sticking Stinky on top of Joker, which can't be good for his brittle bone disease.

Getting new ship is repeat but keeping old ship is not, I don't get it. There will be repeat in any case.

New ship is better, whether with refit or by going to alliance/council SR3 ship, I want bigger, stronger, quieter, and more BAMF in my ship.

And whoever said that EDI being part of the ship is a problem, I don't really think so. It's an AI, they can just transfer "her".

I want an even stealthier ship that is covered in vaseline, with an A.I. that only says, "Shh. It's okay, it's okay." I will call it the SSV Back-Door Entry and it will specialize in risky docking procedures.

Yeah. It might not stop the reapers but it will sure make them feel dirty and ashamed.

make a new ship battle ship Normandy from tech left over if you save the base but normal Normandy if you did not keep the inside the same. More weapons if your battle ship Normandy.

That means the whole quantum blue box core would have to be moved, if they are going to stick to lore AI's cannot be transmitted.

I think it would make sense for the SR2 to be under EDI's control with either Joker or another pilot helping. Since EDI is capable of doing everything else on the ship there's no need for a crew on it at all. In a new Cruiser-class SR3 you'd need a crew and this time if we get an AI on board I want it to have the voice of Morgan Freeman!!!

YES!!! And does a documentary on Shepard's Life.

And as to the ship, I want a dreadnought! No! A super dreadnought! I want it as least twice the size of the Destiny Ascension!

/\\\\ no, that doesn't look very good.

I want to decorate my ship the way I can the cars in my garage in Forza 3.

Metallic pink daisies would look smashing over those Cerberus symbols.

I can already see the DLC now: 'Pimp my Normandy!'

Yay, someone else read the codex! Good for you.

I realize this may sound like sarcasm, but it's not. You can't just transfer an AI in the ME universe, since the AI's "personality" so to speak is a combination of the quantum state of its unique blue box and its programming. Altering the blue box essentially mind-wipes the AI.

EDI is the Normandy now. If the SR2 gets destroyed or EDI's blue box is unlinked from the ship, EDI is dead.

So I didn't just imagine that blue box stuff, yay.  That confuses me since apparently we are to believe that the geth upload and download themselves all the time apparently, so if they are sticking to the lore they are constantly becoming new people or something and dying repeatedly?

Might be an addition to why the Geth keep refering to themselves as 'plural'. Their individualism keeps being 'reset' every time they go to 'sleep'.

I think it will be refitted differently if you join the alliance or stay with cerberus, either way they will open more areas and refurnish. They will just use the excuse because of the damage from the CB and the collector abduction.

Blue Box is a hardware part of AI, without it they are just strings of code. Blue Box allows free will, creative thinking and other 'sentient' stuff. When code of future AI loaded on BB it gets personality (kinda magic but still), if you load same code on another BB or rewrite old one you'll get new personality.
VI works on usual computers and can only imitate thinking, they are usual programs. Geth are VI, all their personality is fixed in their program code. That's why they can be easily uploaded on everything.
I hope my explanation is clear enough.

I think we'll get a new ship, they talk about dreadnaughts so much in the ME series, i think in ME3 we'll get to command one. I seem to remember reading somewhere a new one was being built

Normandy SR2 is a cerberus ship. I reakon Shepard will be active with the Alliance and SR2 and Cerb will be cameo.

I highly doubt Shepard and his crew would give the SR2 back to Cerebus.

Dude the SR2 cost serious $$$$ for Cerberus to build, Only Shepard cost more. If the Ilusive man has monitoring devices all over the ship, its fair to assume he has other ways of making sure that ship says under Cerberus Control.
If the Normandy SR2 just magicly gets accepted into the Alliance Navy or somthing, it will just further proove a ink between Cerberus and the Alliance still exists.

Oh I am quite aware of the cost. TIM laid it down quite nicely. I just don't see them giving it back without a fight. Not to mention certain members of the crew such as Tali might be able to help in the removal of such monitoring devices. Also we have to figure that this could all depend on what choices Shepard made as well.  Plus there is the fact some members may have died on the suicide mission.  It may not be the same for everyone or as straight forward as the beginning of ME2.

We should also consider the beginning of ME3 may even reflect the choices made and if you still have the SR2.

You're asuming EDI wants to go back to the group that would put a limiter on her again as soon as they could?
