Can someone tell me if the Platinum Edition of NWN 2, on DVD, which includes Mask of The Betrayer, and Storm of Zehir is fully patched to include the latest patch?
Thanks very much.

Unsure as I didn't even know there was a phyiscal disk release of NWN2 Platinum. The NWN2 Platinum on Steam is fully patched however, so I would expect so.

I am going to hazard a guess and say yes.  It's been over a year since the last patch and this release is pretty new.  To release it unpatched at this point would be madness.  It's for sale at Walmart and Best Buy also... It's official release date on retail was 12/14/2010.

This caught my eye and made me laugh:

Bioware's Aurora Tool set is included to allow for easy mod creation.

Easy?  EASY!?!  You're kidding, right?

Gamespot claims 12/27/2010.

Well, after all that and a bag of chips, (Inlcuding a trip to Atari.com) I can honestly tell you I don't know and neither, it seems, does anyone else who writes ad copy.  Let's put it this way, "It's an Atari Production, so at the very least you'll be patched to v1.21 after installing Storm of Zehir, for sure."

I'm hoping and betting that it's a completely fully patched game, but, like I said, "It's an Atari Production," so anything's possible from a 1.21 patched game after complete install to a fully patched game.  If anyone has a retail box, could you please respond and verify whether or not the game is fully patched on installation?

No wonder I was so surprised when I saw it. The release is fairly new, then. Easy mod creation (hah!) -- even NWN1 is hardly easy, more like 'Warning: Exponential (e^x) growth in effort required for any desired change to a default blank tileset'.

*If anyone cares, I recently purchased the retail disk of NWN2 Platinum online from Atari directly. So I'll let you know what version the game is when I get around to installing it sometime this week.

I really hope it's the latest patch. Especially since after buy WoW and trying it out for a month and experiencing the time and pain it is to make one patch much less too.

P.S.

Can anyone confirm or deny whether the so-called "Electron Toolset" is different than the Aurora Toolset in anything other than name and whether or not that apparent naming difference is reflected in the executable's name or details?

Kinda funny that I'd buy the NWN2 Platinum ($26) since I bought NWN1 Platinum ($45). I like the box style better than the DVD case, which they seem to have nixed. Presumably extra cost with no extra return.

Two things since this topic was posted:

Yes the Platinum Edition is fully patched to 1.23.1765

Next: The toolset is truly neither Electron nor Aurora. Aurora Engine is what NWN runs on. Electron, which is a stripped back and then rebuilt graphics rendering engine, is what NWN2 runs on. I suppose if you're going to call it anything, I suppose you could call it the Electron Toolset, but the toolset is not actually part of the Engine, per se.

As to differences in the Toolsets? Very, very different in many important ways, but not so different that you're going to open it up and go, "Whaaaa?" All over again. At least, not on average, I'd wager.

That is to say, that the installer is not patched, so far as I can tell. However, it will patch itself up to the most recent. Also, the toolset does require the DirectX 9 redistributable if you don't have it.

DX9 Dist should be on the first disc under a spearate folder. IIRC it's called Prereqs. It should include the original version of .net and DX9 (and there's a 64 bit install for .net there as well) that the game was designed to run on when produced.
