Well, I just wish I could have a look at that damn policy, but it's nowhere. We could contact NeoGAF, but they wouldn't reply anyway.

So, if we assume that he's an EA employee, and that he's not trolling (which he doesn't seem to be doing, considering his reputation), I think that we can decide, although we can't be 100% sure, that some of the squaddies will return in ME3. They weren't addressed by name, that makes sense, but it's difficult to mistake them for someone else.

But wait, does that mean that some voice acting has been done? Till a few weeks ago, neither the recurring characters were written, nor were a lot of the VAs contacted to voice act.

You could probably post all this stuff under the "rumors" section in your thread, for now, since it's not 100% confirmed.
About the voice actors, they won't say if they've contacted or if they've done any voice work though, so we can't say anything about that. They have NDAs to uphold...

Probably not. I think the last process they'll start is the voice acting. It should be done when everything is 100% set to avoid unnecessary waste of time. I mean some of those actors are probably very expensive.

They could easily have all the combat sections basically sorted out for the main questline. That wouldn't really require the VO to be done, or there could even simply be some temp dialogue in place for the moment.

Actually voice acting is important. No facial animation can be done without it.

All he claims was shown was some brief cuts of gameplay footage and non-gameplay action (like, people running around and stuff). None of that implies voice acting at all, and since that stuff takes a long time it obviously would get worked on from day 1 of development.

Also,

Till a few weeks ago, neither the recurring characters were written, nor were a lot of the VAs contacted to voice act.

Where did you pull this from? All I remember is Yvonne Straggdfyhse564w56sergsdfgsfgf saying that she was not allowed to say whether she was in ME3 or not.

Actually no, in fact since ME1 Bioware has been wasting money on voice acting that they end up not using, but still put in the game because, "Hell who cares if you can't normally access it? It was made damn it!"

I seem to recall somebody asking Seth Green if he was reprising his role in ME2 in early 2009 and he said he hadn't been contacted about it yet by BioWare, and then he ended up being heard only a few months later in the E3 preview trailer.

It was on the same thread that we were discussing about Yvonne returning. Someone asked Thane's VA and someone else and they said that they weren't contacted.

isn't it better to just wait for official news? This just amounts to "it looks cool" anyway...so who cares? :/

Actually, Antitype does mention having witnessed conversations in the show (see first quote in OP). The thing is the voice actors will not say anything one way or the other (understandably so). I believe voice acting is one of the first stages in game development; you'd expect all the voice acting for ME3 to have come to an end by this point. It's simply that the VA's won't admit it due to the fact that they signed a NDP.

Not necessarily. It depends on the way that the studio handles it,imo, and voice acting is only needed for animation, Bioware could have produced a partially playable game with no voice acting.

The only news are that: a)Squaddies will be back? b)Basic gameplay mechanisms are finished too?

But what about what this PR guy said? You know, the "some conversations" bit. Read the first quote box in the OP

Surely, conversations imply voice acting.

The whole forum is built on the rumour mill. Look how many replies a this thread on virtually nothing has got. Plus we all secretly love the speculation! Like I said builds up the hype! Image IPB

No, you can have subtitled conversations with literally no audio.

Good point.

Now that I think about, BioWare will most definitely go all out about ME3 this E3, which is June. If they haven't done any voice acting yet, expect them to do it all within the next several months until June. At least, they will record enough to show in the trailers and whatnot.

This strikes me as plausible. The guy was very careful about not breaking non-disclosure, and all he's said is that he saw reels. Video clips of someone demoing the games he mentioned. That's not entirely unheard of, and his reasons for why the reels might have internally circulated make sense. I'm just not sure why EA would risk a leak that big. There are a lot of highly anticipated titles in that list of his.

Hearing that the game is playable from beginning to end isn't surprising either. The story was already established a LONG time ago, dialogue, choices too. They've already had the new engine working well enough to re-release ME2 on it for the PS3, so that's already been done for a while. There's nothing saying Bioware wasn't already working on ME3 the very day after ME2 shipped, regardless of DLC and whatnot.

Taking a year simply for polish is something I expect of Bioware, so again, this strikes me as plausible.

IIRC didn't it take them about 5-6 months to do all the VA work for ME2. I actually imagine VA stuff is done early on that would explain how some stuff gets cut but the files are still deep within the game sometimes as was proven in previous games.

I actually wonder if they'll be looking at doing some sort of "Shepard's Quest" thing in London like a few weeks before game release like they did with the "Warden's Quest" just before DAO came out, be kind of fitting with the opening teaser trailer :D

I'd love to be on the UK team if they did that :D

I hate to be a raincloud guys, because I really want squadmates back.

But even if this guy did see an internal reel [which isn't out of the question], even if he SAW a character in the trailer...it could have just been a placeholder for a non-modeled character. For instance. Lets say in ME3 we get a turian squadmember. They're not going to wait to model the character before they work on gameplay- they'd just use Garrus's model for convenience until the new model is ready. If he doesn't work on ME3, I just wouldn't hold "squadmates returning" with any salt. Especially from internal demo reels which are notorious for using placeholders.

Some rumour(s).... The Squaddie one was contradicted by the edited in one. So take anything that was said here with a grain of salt since they are all just rumours.

Yes, that's a possibility.

It wasn't contradicted, but this thing should be taken with a grain of salt anyway.
