And yet people are icked out by Aveline...

Plus, i'm pretty sure they reproduce asexually or something i really can't picture Sten with a woman and i really dont want to.

Lot's of women thought Sten was the sexiest man in DA:O.

I think it's more to deal with the clothing and hair style she has on her default look than her body I think.  Personally, I think she looks fairly attractive but isn't exotically so like Isabela.

I think what made Sten attractive is rather his personality than his looks. I mean I liked him too.

Please don't assume everyone thinks Aveline is icky. I for one find the character refreshing and handsome. I think Varric is a short and somewhat chubby man of great charisma. Not everyone is buys into TV idea of beauty, and suggesting that is the reason they should keep elves tall just seems like a weak idea to me. I seen nothing wrong with the build that elves had...

PS: Sten was totally hot.

People are still attached to the strict contemporary-TV ideas of beauty.. So elves MUST be same size as humans if they are romanceable... I won't even go for the color of the skin issue, but putting it short: Distinct racial physiology IS NOT an opportunity to explore different standards of beauty, because people usually don't tolerate differences when it comes to romance... Only when it comes to visual gaming fun..

How disappointed people would be if the so-talked-about Fenrir was 1.50m tall, or if the romance option for boys was a dwarf girl, or etc?

Simple as that =P

lol Fenrir, But seriously wow bro I mean I'd like Fenris to be taller than my Hawke but it's not  a nesscesity and I highly doubt it is for most people, if he's a LI I'm tappin that I don't care how short he is. Just sayin.  As for the rest of that meh you can't blame it all on the TV some people just have  their prefrences

I'd prefer it elves to were as tall or slightly taller than humans, given that when combined with the rest of their characteristics such as being nimble, thin, elegant, and lack of facial hair having them be notisably shorter kind of feels silly; it looks like you're taking a 10 year old out on the battle field.

Dwarves avoid this problem because while they are short, they're also as wide as they are tall, it's all muscle and they have manly man beards.

A lot of people like the concept of uglier-than-humans elves of DAO.

Where did this come from? I didn't think there was that disticntion. Quite the opposite actually. Along with them being more 'agile' I thought it was said the reason why some keep them as housemaids/slaves/etc is because they are attractive.

Covering someone in dirty and poverty has a tendancy to make anyone look less attractive.

I was giving my opinion and I was getting defensive when you claimed my main reason is romance. Which is one of my reasons, but not the main one. How and why you said that I don't know, but looks to me like you wanted to make my points look cheap. I posted here because I said my opinion, and I'd even argue if you did it with style.

I said it was your main reason because I assumed this discussion had more to do with elves as an idea of what they should be, and not on whether it would be better for the graphics to render. They were the only points you brought up for why you felt Elves should be human height or taller. If you interpreted what I said about the romance as an attempted put down, again I apologize. It just seemed from your post that that particular reason had less technical reasons behind it and had more to do with personal taste, which is the part of your opinion I’m most interested in. as for your insult, come on we’ve avoided personal attacks so far why change it? (although I’m now curious on what about my arguing ability you think needs improving?)

I like the elves the hight they are and now that I think about it if I can't have m/m romance with the token party elf I like the idea of playing a human woman in love with a slightly shorter elf man. Speaking as an artist it's really rare to see het-couple pictures where the woman isn't a whole head shorter then the man and I like variety!
Also we already got Quanari with horns I don't think we need any more racial departures from DAO unless they're like a sub race or something (moon elves/high elves/ dark elves/sun elves... do we really want to go there?)

I'll also just leave this here

They were described as beautiful, lithe with a cat-like eyes in codex/books/NPC dialogues. I think that DA2 got it right. In DAO...well it was near impossible to make a attractive female(for me at least) elven character while you could do it easily with human.

Oh I misunderstood your comment then. I thought you were saying the DA setting said Elves are ugly than humans. You were referring to game building mechanics and not necisarrily lore.

Your argueing ability is fine. I just don't like if someone takes a part of what I say out of context and puts it as if it is all I had to say. Anyway, I guess I also have to apologize for the tone in my posts, and not only to you.

Well I wouldn't know why elves should be smaller in general. The point that they should be smaller because they are inferior also bothers me. Or as you put it in your first post that you like if non-human races have 'shortcommings'. Not exactly sure what you mean by that but I prefer if non-human races are both, lesser and higher than humans in every respect.

I didn't like that elves were portrayed as slaves or savages and that that connected to their size. As if it was better for slaves to be smaller than their masters. The whole 'human superiority' thing kinda bothers me actually. It seems to be a trend in fantasy games lately. So I am not a fan of the 'we are humans, we kick everyone's ass' mentalitly.

Of course I know that size doesn't equal worth of a person or group of persons, I just find it odd that socially inferiour groups should be portrayed physically inferior. And I am 6ft in rl, so it is not an inferiority complex. Anyway my point is that I don't know one good reason why elves must be smaller than humans. I have read this whole thread and I don't think I have seen one good point either.

I can understand and accept though that different people have different tastes for whatever reason.

Yeah it was the other way round for me. I found the male cousin of the player character in the city elf origin rather handsome, but I didn't see one compareable elven lass. So basically I found dwarven and human female faces more attracrive than elven females, and even some elven male ... not more attractive, but better looking ...

However I like the elven faces in the concept art, so there is reason to hope Posted Image

If you played it on PC, did you use the toolset? Made all the difference in the world for me.
(Too bad I can't use any of my toolset-generated faces as an avatar here)

They show up corrupted in the Player Profile and if I go to Profile Diagnostics there's a bunch of error codes.
I don't know if it's because they're toolset generated or if it has something to do with one of my many mods.
It doesn't really bother me all that much, as long as I can still import my saves to DA2.

Yep, and it was my only savior. 14 attempts on female and 13 on a male character and I have very nice looking and pretty unique elves.

The funny thing that my DAO toolset elves look pretty canonically to DA2 style. With straight, noses, wight ears big eyes, huge irises.  Its was a pleasure to see that my personal canon match with developers vision.^_^

I think elven males are about as tall as human females. If you look at the screenshot with all the partymembers it looks like Fenris is as tall as Isabela.

True. And if we compare him to Varric, he also appears way taller. In DA:O dwarfs were only a few cm shorter than elves. Oghren's head reaches Zevran's nose, while Varric reaches Fenris' shoulder.
