So, recently I bought a new computer. Not only do I not know where anything goes since it's Windows 7, but I'm pretty sure it hates me. Previously I have gotten .mop files as character presets with no problems. I transfered my old .mrh files over to my computer and exported a .mop file. After clicking around and finally finding that it is no longer stored directly in my toolsetexport folder but in addins/demo/core/override/toolsetexport, I put the files in my toolsetexport folder where mods go and added them to my .xml. Each time I start the game and try to select the morph, it crashes as if there's a typo in the .xml or the morph file isn't there, but it is. Am I supposed to stick it somewhere different?

Had a similar thing happen to me over the New Year's weekend and came to the conclusion that Windows 7, although very pretty, is evil incarnate. Ended up wiping 7 off and putting XP back on.

Crap. Windows 7 IS evil, and each time I log on I feel it eating at my soul. But this computer came with Windows 7 and I have no idea where my XP discs are. I've thought about doing what you did last week.

When I tried putting the .mop files where they belonged DA crashed, so I went and deleted the .mop files (they were backed up elsewhere). Then I tried starting DA to see if that fixed the issue; DA started up fine and the preset ended up working despite the fact that it had been deleted from the override folder. I think I was keeping my backups in the demo folder, but I'm not certain.

Trouble modding Oblivion, constant admin promps and conflicts with Adobe Suite 7 are what killed Windows 7 for me.

The only work around I found for this problem is to rename a custom .mop file to a default name (hf_cps_01.mop, for instance) and just let it replace the default, in case anyone else ever has this problem. You just can't have an army of morphs in your game at a time.

I really think I'm going to have to find those XP disks. I didn't know Oblivion had problems too, which makes sense but sucks because I was thinking about playing it again. Windows 7 sucks.

One other thing that will cause this and I know beacause i do it once in awhile, is make sure it is a .mop and not a .mor . Forgetting to set export as mop as true.
