Sentinel with Energy Drain as your bonus skill makes you virtually indestructible. Soldier is relatively easy on Insanity and I personally found Insanity cake. Engineer is... not a particularly liked class but having never bothered with it in any capacity. I cannot comment. Adept and Vanguard have a punishingly high learning curve. Thus, I would stay away from them if you are concerned about difficulty.

Soldier was the first class I used to beat insanity. I had a very challenging blast. But Sentinel is probably the best class against Insanity.

I know some people are going to disagree, but I'm finding the Engineer to be fairly easy to play on Insanity. Granted, I'm not terribly far into the game yet, but it's probably got the most robust skill set of all classes (except, perhaps, the Sentinel). I'm burning through encounters at a record pace. I don't think I've ever beaten Mordin's recruitment as fast as I did with the Engineer.

I also found the Adept to be fairly easy to beat Insanity with. Once you learn how to lock down powerful enemies with Singularity, most of the fights become a breeze with only a few exceptions. While I'm sure Soldier and Infiltrator are easier classes to play, I never had as much success with them. They just didn't fit my play style very well.

i dont think any one class is easier over another its about your style of play, i love playing as soldier and vanguard 2nd , i think its all in the players strengths and weakness, some love using the widow, i like using the rev. as a soldier and use burst fire from the rev if , AR is not being used it fires more like the vindicator that way . So choose your class based on your strengths .

You can judge a class by how much it forces you to take cover. And by this, I am absolutely sure that soldier is the most powerful class as you will kill anything long before it has a chance to scratch you.

Soldier with Mattock, GPS and Widow needs a special harder than insanity difficulty. Basically it's easier to play soldier on insanity than adept on hardcore.

Autoclave:

Soldier just needs to be adjusted. As it currently is, Insanity doesn't affect Soldier play at all. This means that the Soldier basically has no significant difficulty settings above Veteran, which is a shame. Soldier lovers need some loving, too.

Between the two, definitely Soldier, otherwise Sentinel. Infiltrator has always been my favorite class but I found it to be the hardest class to play. Of course, I can be aggressive and get myself into trouble from time to time. I had, by far, the easiest time with a Sentinel.

I've had absolutely no problems with Engineer on Insanity. The probe keeps everyone distracted.

Having said that, I can cakewalk with an adept, but that's my class of choice so I know it the best.

Those two aside, the overall easiest would be soldier followed by sentinel. First for the AR and the latter for it's armor in combination with ED. With these two I had to work pretty hard and stupidly to die...

In terms of pure killspeed and time needed to clear a level, fo me it's:
1) Vanguard (Claymore)
2) Soldier (Revenant)
3) Infiltrator (Widow)
4) Sentinel (Shotgun)
5) Engineer (Shotgun
6) Adept (Shotgun)

As far as pure survivability goes it's almost the same, but Sentinel goes up 2 spots
1) Vanguard
2) Sentinel
3) Soldier
...

Well, having just finished the SM with my first time playing engineer... i must say it was the hardest for the first two sections of any play through I've done.

I died at least 5 times if not more. Probably because I took the wrong squadies.

While it was otherwise an easy play through, it's not one I had much fun with :( I still prefer the adept.

I just finished my first Insanity playthrough (NG+ Sentinel) and post-Collector Ship I found everything to be an absolute breeze. For the most part, there's nothing too difficult up to that point, but there are some fights that just get tedious. The fight on Horizon with 2 Scions and tons of Husks was definitely the hardest in the game. But by the time you have a decent amount of upgrades researched, you're unstoppable.

Vanguard is amazingly easy at all times in Insanity, unless you hear the dreaded 'Can't get a lock' or 'Can't reach the target' or 'I can't see them' then you're dead through no fault of your own and poor level design. Other than those times tho, once you get heavy charge with a Vanguard you are practically unkillable if you use it judiciously and make sure you have somewhere to go AFTER the charge and not standing in the middle of the open with enemies all around. Surviving that while waiting for Charge to come back can get... interesting ;)

no class kills faster than the infiltrator ...it's 1 shot kill ( headshot) even on insanity with the widow sniper rifle ...what class kills faster than that? so i say infiltrator all the way the most fun class and the easiest class on insanity

I'd say either infiltrators, biotic, or sentinels are your best choices.  For insanity, you want to limit the amount of time you're exposed to enemy fire so you don't have to keep loading a mission.  Infilitrators are good because of cloaking and for their sniper rifles.  Biotics are also good because they have a variety of powers for certain situations.,  Then there's my favorite, the Sentinel, the tech shield is extremely useful for prolonging the time exposed to enemy fire, and if it's charged out, you can just activate it again.

The Claymore Vanguard by far, the Widow Soldier and in my experience the Revenant Soldier as well ;)

I would have agreed with you on the Vanguard but for 3 things:

Can't.
Reach.
Target.

Last weekend I decided to run a NG+ Vanguard on insanity and i must have died more than a dozen time on Jack's recruitment mission due to Charge glitches alone. The standard "error charge" even though the target is 10 yards away from Shep in open field.  The "charging the wall" thing , and what i call the "Quantum entanglement" charge : Where you end the jump inside the target (gross). I didn't get the "end the charge on top of objects motionless" , but I'm sure it was in the cards.

Meanwhile , i keep checking the difficulty on my infiltrator to be sure it didn't moved from insanity. In fact I think I only died once so far ( I should have timed both runs in retrospect).

Infiltrators are on top, slow and steady wins the race...

Its like that fable story of the tortoise & the hare: The Rabbit challenged the tortoise to a race and the tortoise was like : Sure I'll even give you a heads start. Then the Rabbit leaves him in the dust . 50 yards or so later , the tortoise takes out his sniper riffle and gives the rabbit a new breathing hole, and delivers a kickass line like; Here's your head start!

On any other difficulty a failed charge means you go "**** i better get some cover" . On insanity its more like "**** i better start again ". Once you've factor all the time spent in the loading screen the tortoise is already bringing it to harbinger.

Not that the vanguard isn't fun or anything , in fact i prefer it to the infiltrator.

Well I don't know... I rarely ever have charging problems with the Vanguard. There are a few places you can't charge due to level design (enemies on the other side, no way to get back) but other than that I usually never have problems.

Charge Fail sucks..and it may kill you. But that is a small price to pay for the awesomeness Charge is.

Widow Soldier with Mattock is absurdly easy. I haven't played Sentinel yet, but seems even easier. I don't equate easiest with most fun though, my current Vanguard playthrough is probably the most fun (at least after the buzz of being able to one shot any dork with a soldier wore off)

I didn't think it was that bad as a vanguard.  Get some cover, take down armor/shields/barrier, charge over and shotgun them in the face, cover again, charge to the next one, more shotgun to the face, repeat. Once you've played through once or twice and know how they're going to come at you it's easy.
