The Reapers are doing this, because curiosity leads to knowledge, and knowledge leads to civilisation, and a better civilisation means a better harvest.

Now, if we can only make the world bosses believe that the reapers are real, we wont have to depend on some future space hero.

Ugh, stuff like this makes me hate alarmist media...

I don't think there is anything significant happening, I mean lets look at the facts.

The birds in Arkansas died of internal injuries, they were found with fractured skulls and broken wings and pelvises. If someone can explain what would cause those wounds other than impact I'd be glad to hear it. If the birds became disoriented before they hit whatever it was they hit then the first logical explanation is something disturbed them from their roosts, and people happened to be letting off fireworks that night. Although it does seem a bit strange at first all the pieces do fit together, as an explanation it works.

Now for the rest of "the slew" it's not unusual. Some quick reading and it's revealed that mass deaths are not uncommon. In the United States alone there have been about 160 mass deaths annually since records began in the 70's, however as sword said they are only being noticed because people are looking for them.

A good article on the logical explanations

However I have enjoyed reading some of the stuff, especially the dead snapper in New Zealand (some of) which are "unexplainably" missing their eyes. No mention that they eyes are often the first body parts eaten by scavengers because they are soft, nutritious and unprotected.

So yeah, "Full of sound and fury signifying nothing"

Watch FlashForward, they have some sort of mass blackout machine and in testing it killed all the birds in an area around it

I agree with you except for the fireworks bit, which dos not really compute. Now let me say it is entirely possible that fireworks was the reason why it happened.

The Fourth of July you have more potential for things like this to occur, yet I have not seen or heard of any story which involves birds getting spooked on the 4th due to massive amounts of fireworks on that day. Don't you think the birds got the internal injurys and fractures and broken bones when the hit the ground? Not from flying around and crashing into stuff? Now I admit I'm no expert but I think the case there is cause of extreme cold. Not fireworks.

But what do I know? I'm just the 130lb chicken in the room.

Well I'm sure cold weather is much more common than fireworks, so there should be heaps of these stories whenever it gets cold. Seems a bit to complex to me, without knowing the weather conditions of the night, to freeze birds to death they would need to be flying in pouring (and freezing) rain, against their natural instinct to roost at night and in bad weather.

However there is this quote from the guy investigating it.

“Eye witnesses said they heard the bangs. And shortly after that, birds were flying through the neighborhood very low, crashing into cars, trees, and houses.”

So there is strong evidence of the birds being disorientated before they crashed into things, shortly after people heard fireworks. In this case I'd say "it hasn't happened before" doesn't really do much to disprove this theory. Any logical explanation will come under fire from that arguement because thousands of birds falling from the sky doesn't really happen often.

The one factor that needs to be considered is simply confirmation bias - once we get into our heads an idea like "there's something mysterious going on with animals dying in droves everywhere", we instinctively start looking for evidence to confirm our idea. And whatever it is you look for, you tend to find.

So suddenly you get a bunch of reports of all kinds of animals dying.

This may not, in fact, be anything particularly out of the ordinary, but rather it seems to be so because now our attention has been shifted, and we're LOOKING FOR such occurrances.

Edited for space reduction.

Got confirmation of exactly this on the radio this morning. According the US Geological survey, they recorded 95 animal mass deaths in the last year alone. And that's a pretty common number. Nothing to see here folks, sorry.

A cloud of deadly gas in the sky. Not terribly surprising given the current state of the environment.

edit: Oh, and @#$% 2012. The calender resets, it doesn't end.

Some kind of flu in the birds maybe?

First sign of the apocalypse and we should have all joined that cult and shaved our heads?

Dare I say, GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY???

/sigh.

The fact that people THINK there is a human body that is SO organized and devoid of ego to do something like this is astounding. Conspiracy theorists that some reptilian race is taking over to destroy the world. Well, the humans can't even run a presidential campaign without people on the SAME side contradicting each other. If some reptilian race is THAT organized and free of ego that can do this? pffft be my guest.

Instead of googling what has happened this week.... google similar things happening over the past twenty years. For the Makers Sake! It has happened before.10 years ago, 20. This takeover bid is so well thought out they have animals dropping periodically for DECADES.

Yesterday, somewhere, a bunch of lunatics jumped in front of a train.

Honest to god, it didn't mean a god somewhere was taking control. HONEST.

The birds that fell in Sweden showed signs of physical trauma (internal bleeding) but had no visible signs of physical trauma on their body; no wounds or similiar. So how the internal bleeding was caused is a mystery. Could be something they ate though, that caused internal damage to organs, which again led to eruption of veins, thus bleeding.

Still weird that so many birds fell down at once...

I'm just joking around. But somewhere on the internet, a guy has a written essay on this already.

From what I've read the quote about the Swedish birds is along the lines of:

We made an autopsy on five of the birds yesterday and found internal bleeding but no external lesions

That's a bit different from "no wounds or physical trauma" instead it looks more like there were no open wounds or areas of missing feathers. Finding bruises on a animal covered entirely in feathers is hugely difficult and impacts may not have to break the skin in order to kill the animal.

From my reading it sounds more like they are unwilling to say much until they have finished their examinations are sure, rather than it being an actual mystery. Basically they are keeping quiet until they have done a full examination rather than saying their gut reaction, which is what you should expect from scientists.

Basically I'd wait a week or two before calling them mysterious deaths

in nature birds die in the thousands during migration, some just don't make the long journey south.

Maybe global warming screwing up the migration schedules? cause some birds to come back early or miss their timing

or maybe cthulu/lizardmen/illuminati/space****s/evilzionists did it

(lol na.zis is censored)
