Been replaying KOTOR, and it's been going pretty smoothly, a few crashes here and there, but nothing particularly annoying or consistent (not specifically after cutscenes, not always during battles, etc.). But I'm at the Sith test on Korriban and fighting the two tarentaks, yet once I kill one of them, the game crashes. Always.
I also notice that my character levels up RIGHT after I kill one of them (in the few seconds before it freezes). Although I doubt this has anything to do with the game crash (herp).
Thing is that I don't think this has to do with my graphics card or anything. This is just a very inconvenient place where my game is just deciding to crash. I have no idea what could be the potential problem.
Just as info, I'm running...
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Quad Core Q8400 @ 2.66Hz 2.66GHz
4 GB of RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260
Crashes always at specific point in a battle.

I had that problem one time with the kinrath in the cave on Dantooine. It crashed a second or two after killing some of them. I fixed it by quickly saving the game each time I took an opponent down. Then it didn't crash when I reloaded the save.
Alternatively, or maybe preferably, you can try adding the line "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1" to your swkotor.ini file. This should also fix the problem.
