I just bought the entire pack - NWN2 OC, MotB and SoZ.  I have started the OC in NWN2, and am up to Act II.  I was wondering, does either MotB or SoZ start from level 1, or are they both created in mind as sequels (i.e., you play the OC through, import your OC character into MotB, play MotB through, import your character(s) into SoZ?)

I also have a general crafting question.  I noticed most (or maybe all) crafted items need a spell cast on the workbench.  If I have one character who can craft weapons but is not a spell caster, how do I do it?  I could see putting all the items in with Khelgar, who can craft weapons, but cannot cast spells. How does that work?  Even if I have Sand or Qara cast a spell, they can't craft.  What is the sequence I need to do?  Or do I need to start over, and have some mage (Sand or Qara) and cleric (the druid) learn crafting, because you need to hae all skills in one character?

MotB is a sequel to the OC. SoZ is a different module, for a new party of 4 members.

Crafting skills are used to create non-magic items of different materials, such as mithral armors or cold iron swords. Mages can enchant already existing items (adding magical properties to them).

Mmm.. thanks! But I guess I am not being clear:

In MotB - can I play from 1 to 30, or is it just for importing your NWN2 OC character?

As far as crafting, I would craft the sword I want, say a rapier, with Khelgar, and then give it to Sand to enchant? Do I have that sequence correct? Since you can buy any base tem, why would you craft a sword or armor in the first place? Why not just buy the rapier from a vendor and give it to Sand to enchant?

The story of MotB assumed importing an OC character. If you don't you import a character, you are leveled up to level 18, and the story goes on as if you'd played the OC. (don't worry if you start a new character and they don't have anything on them, the game will take care of it for you)

Crafting: You could do either. But weapons and armor made from usual materials such as adamantine or cold iron are not always available to buy.

You can enchant any item, crafted by you or not (found, bought...).

As Kamal said, items of some materials are hard to find in stores sometimes, and each material has different properties. For example, mithral heavy shields have 0% Arcane Spell Failure, which makes them a good choice for Bards.

It's worth noting that items can only have a limited number of enchantments. I think it's 3 in the OC and 4 in MotB. Once you reach that number, you won't be able to enchant it further, though spells that buff weapons (Keen, for example) will still work.

This site has crafting guides for the three official campaigns, if you want to take a look:
